We normally go to the dog park in Oakhurst but decided to try this one. It was great with lots of grass. It did seem a little slick on the hill because it had rained the day before, but overall, the dog enjoyed it. I only noticed one bench, but it was so cold that morning, we were jumping around to stay warm anyway. We’ll be back when we need a change of scenery. It’s a great use of this space.

This is an excellent park for you and your pup! I’ve been to this park a couple dozen times and I have never had a bad encounter with another owner’s dog. Everyone is really friendly and keeps a close eye on their dog. If you’re nervous about your little pup getting trampled on, have no worries! The park is divided into two areas for small and large dogs. Lastly, for all the ladies out there… I recommend coming to the park near the end of the week between 4−6PM or on the weekend… that’s when all the hot dudes show up…

This is a great and relatively new dog park to the Atlanta scene. Some things that make this park different – –Lots of grass! Definitely won’t find an expanse of all wood chips here(I’m looking at you, Piedmont Park). –Shade, sun, and benches. All a must! –Lots and lots of space. This may honestly be the biggest dog park in Atlanta. I noticed some mentioned there wasn’t a water tap, but there is now. There’s one at the entrance for dogs. There’s a water fountain just outside the gate for humans. The only entrance is on Highland Ave. Like others mentioned, this is a bit of a pain if you’re coming from Freedom or Boulevard, but Highland has the parking anyway. Street parking is available around the park.

One word… grass!!! More grass than wood chips! Great park in a fairly convenient area. Dogs and people seem generally cool.

First of all, I thought this park was pretty hard to find. There is only one entrance and it is on Highland. This is a huge design flaw because if you come from the trails or off of John Wesley Dobbs or Boulevard you need to walk all the way around to get in.(I’ve read the reasoning for constructing the park this way on their website and while it makes sense, it is still a minor inconvenience). Second, while it was nice that the park was split into big/small dog areas the small dog section is in pretty bad shape. The grass is really overgrown and I refused to let my dog run in there for fear of ticks or other surprises hiding in there. In contrast, the big dog park looks really taken care of. The grass is short and appeared recently cut. I’m not sure who oversees that(if it’s volunteer based or there is someone in charge) but I don’t get the disparity. Last, there are no water stations(as mentioned), but I didn’t mind because that’s pretty normal at the dogs parks I’ve been to in the past. So if you have a medium-large sized dog I’d definitely recommend, but if your pup is under 30 lbs I’d enter at your own risk!

Another great place near the ‘hood for Moose to romp off leash in a contained environment. Freedom Barkway in Old 4th Ward just opened and is fantastic. It came about when neighbors in O4W realized Piedmont Park dog park was too far to walk and that this stretch of land was underutilized. The off leash dog park is located behind the vintage shop«Desperate Houseware». The way to get in to the dog park is off of Highland Ave, but the park runs along a greenspace next to Freedom Parkway. There are fantastic views of downtown from the park. The dog park, like most, is divided into small dog and large dog sides. There are no water fountains for the pups yet, but there soon will be thanks to a successful kickstarter campaign. The park is a really nice edition to the area and is walkable from Cabbagetown which is quite exciting.
