As a cancer survivor, I have fundraised for various groups and participated in numerous walks/relays/races. ANYTHING you can do to fight cancer is good, but Team In Training takes it to a new level of awesomeness. I am now a proud TNT alum, having completed the Iron Girl Atlanta and Chattanooga Waterfront triathlons in the summer of 2009. I’m currently a mentor for the 2010 triathlon season! TNT is the best way to prepare for an endurance event, whether you are a beginner or a super-marathoner. The coaching is supportive and professional, and if you follow their advice and suggestions, you WILL feel prepared to complete your event. The mentors and staff partners are incredible as well, and they are there to make sure that you are successful in both your physical training AND your fundraising. Yes, you have to commit to raising money, but it’s for an amazing cause, and there are so many people to help you think of(and implement) creative and fun ways to do it! Throughout the season, I never for a minute felt like I wasn’t going to succeed. Speaking of fun, the whole experience is lots of it — yes, the training and fundraising are serious, but TNT is also a fantastic social outlet. Many of my best friends have come from Team In Training, and it is truly like a big family — it seems like everywhere you go, someone is recognizing your«purple power» and giving you a great big GOTEAM!!!

I am a proud Team In Training alumni now. I did my first event with TNT, the 2009ING Georgia Marathon, last weekend. While I have run marathons before, none of them compared to running one as part of the TNT experience. From the moment you show up at your first group training session with TNT until the party after race, TNT does things right. The training is great; everything is provided for, top quality coaches and mentors guide you through every aspect of training and you really become an athlete if you never were one before. The friendships are amazing too. Training week in, week out with a group of people, you really get to know them and become a «team» with them. TNT also gives a tremendous amount of support to help with fundraising. The thought of raising so much money was daunting to me but with TNT’s help it was a breeze. They also really, really get you pumped about there mission. While blood cancer hasn’t affected me personally, as part of TNT I really became passionate about it. I can’t recommend the TNT experience enough for someone that wants to complete an endurance event. It is the BEST way to go, and the Georgia Chapter rocks, IMHO.

If you are even remotely considering doing a Team in Training event, do it today! What an amazing, positive experience. I participated in the Tugaloo Triathlon in 06 and ready for another season. Here are some of the attributes: Training Program — whether you are doing a triathlon, marathon or century, you’ll get a fantastic training program that WILL get you to your goal. Coaches — if the program wasn’t enough, there is a team of experienced, excellent and fun coaches to give you tips and motivate you. LLS Staff — The staff at LLS is extraordinary. Amazing people. Overall Wellness — Hello? You’ll be working out and don’t you always feel so good after a work out? Patient Hero — The person you work so hard to fund-raise for is humbling. They show such strength and courage — it’s inspiring. In total, an amazing organization and experience that will impact you forever. From the site: If crossing the finish line after running or walking 26.2 miles or 13.1 miles, cycling 100 miles or completing a triathlon while helping cure deadly diseases are things you’ve always wanted to accomplish, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training will make them happen. As the largest endurance sports training program in the world, we will provide you with the experience of a lifetime.
