Very disappointed Volunteer! My boyfriend and I are new to the area and chose the CSRA humane society to volunteer. The website posts the cost to volunteer and when the orientation classes are to take place(no pre-registration required). I even called and spoke with a real person just a few days before to verify the date, time and location. When we arrived for the volunteer orientation all the gates were locked. We had arrived a bit early and caught a worker behind the fence. He replied that he cannot let us in, only the board members could do that. We went back out to the car and waited 20 more mins, in which no-one arrived. So, we left. Maybe we can find a more interested, trustworthy place to volunteer!

If you’re looking for a pet and have any decency in your heart, you would run to the CSRA Humane Society, Augusta’s only no-kill shelter. The building is a converted 1930’s style prison which now holds free-roaming cats and of course caged dogs who are paired with a buddy. The«greeters» can be a bit abrasive but they mean well. Be prepared for lots of barking since the dogs don’t get much people interaction. Also, try to walk one of the dogs you’re looking at. Dogs are more calm when they’re by themselves. I adopted a mutt there after a few visits, but initially thought she was a mangy dog and passed her cage a few times. Luckily, one of the dog walkers told me she was nice and I took her outside. After a quick sit and treat session, we fell in love.
