The favor of the pies was good and the crust tender. However, it’s a carry out place with two dirty tables. Had I just carried-out and not sat in such a sorry location, I may be a happier customer. The food wasn’t superior enough for a return visit.

We had the spicy chicken, chicken peri peri, beef pasty, vanilla custard, cherry crumble and(our favorite) apple crumble. All of them were amazing! Full of flavor and surprisingly filling! Very affordable and is always fresh! They are really friendly, we are definitely going back! Excited to try their new specials!

This is an interesting place, little pot pies and all homemade by a fella named Ty from South Africa. All I can say is it was delicious and Ty was a gentleman!

This place is absolutely fanatic. If you call ahead and they will put the pie in for you coming out of the oven right when you arrive… then get some to take home for later. The crust might be the best part, is buttery and flaky. The flavors at so complex. I love the spicy veggie, hands down favorite. With the peri peri a close second, it would be my top pick if the was a veggie option. Absolutely love the spice and the pies. This spot is a winner and can make your place#1 with pies to go.

The staff go above and beyond. I recommend ordering a half hour early if you plan to get takeout. Loved most of their pies. Not crazy about the cheeseburger one. Their mini pies for dessert are just the right size to quench your sweet-tooth without the guilt of overindulging

The service and attention of this place is enough to go, but the food will keep you coming back. Right down the street from the growing place… Why WOULDN’T you stop by? My husband and I collectively tried everything they have. It’s all delicious. Don’t be afraid to ask the guys behind the counter for help, they genuinely seem like they want to be there!

Pies are excellent. Crispy buttery crust that melts in your mouth. Meat is always spiced to the perfect amount and tastes fresh. My favorite isbthe pepper steak. Service is always top notch, these are some of the nicest people I know. Small seating area but you always have the ability to order to go.

I work at the pawn shop close by here so we get pies from here regularly. I have tried pretty much everything on the menu from the meat pies to the beef pasty and the apple pie, it’s all DELICIOUS! You can order fresh pies and the also have them warm and ready to go! Today I asked what was ready and they did have chicken pot pie so I tried that one for the first time today and I was not disappointed! Never had a bad pie here and I’ll return! Thanks Pie Boss!

Go. Now. Don’t waste your time. This place is AMAZING. I got it for lunch, brought it back to work to eat, and the entire office stopped to see what I was eating because it smelled SO good! I had the cheeseburger pie and a sausage roll, and am extremely full/happy! The pie crust is flaky and delicious, and the meats are flavored wonderfully. I will be returning. Heck, several people went there for lunch immediately after I finished! PS– The staff was beyond friendly! Very helpful and informative if your a first timer.

Make sure to order ahead by 30 – 45 minutes so you can get a fresh personal pie! This place is simply amazing. You MUST go here if you want something unique and with great quality! The crust was perfectly fluffy, crispy, not too light/heavy, tasty just perfect. I had the spicy chicken and the filling was done just right. Could have had a little bit more meat, but that’s just my preference. Price was great and service was nice and friendly! This is a great lunch spot and definitely one-of-a-kind. Go here!

The food here is very tasty! I’ve only been here once, but the flaky crust/pie is very well prepared. It looks perfect, I’m not sure how the owner Ty(from the bakery’s website) makes it that way. Anyway, it was 10am and the pies were just getting out of the oven. I ordered the Chicken and Mushroom Pie and a Sausage Roll. I was thinking of eating it later in the day, but it was freshly prepared so I ate some of it right away instead. The prices are low and the food is good IMO. I’d recommend this place to people. Although it’s more like a bakery than a restaurant, there are a few tables. Oh and I had a chance to ask Ty about the food and he was super nice!

We took home the Peppered Steak pie and the Cheeseburger pie, it was easy to follow the directions that came with them. I enjoyed the crust more than anything, it was fluffy and crispy. My husband was overwhelmed with his Cheeseburger pie after 3 bites. We both shared the chocolate custard tart for dessert which was phenomenal.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but I found the pie a little smaller than I was expecting. Maybe a little too much for one person, but not enuf to split without a salad or something else to share. Around $ 7, fair enuf. Nice mild, maybe curry/white pepper, spice on the spicy lamb that was not on the take away menu I requested; so you may have to ask for spicy lamb as I don’t think they always have it. I shared half of the spicy lamb with my older brother who I was visiting in the Fox Valley and he didn’t find it too spicy, and he doesn’t like spicy. I was a little disappointed in the low spice level. I’m also a crust snob and not looking for carbs in general, and I ate ALL my crust. I did pick up a frozen chicken and mushroom pie and baked it about two weeks later just coating the top with milk(powdered goat milk was all I had and it worked) since I was out of the other egg wash option(why waste an egg). Came out nice and brown and flakey. I preferred the chicken and mushroom, rich, complex, just delicious. I found the spicy lamb not that special frankly and may have just gotten a less than stellar one, light on lamb imo. I’ll try the highly recommended pepper beef next, but I’ll pick up another frozen chicken and mushroom guaranteed. If you don’t know this part of Aurora, you might want to call first and get some landmarks like Copley Memorial Hospital, and across from a 7 – 11 in a pretty nondescript strip mall. My garmin kept taking me to a wrong address a few long blocks away on Montgomery road, so watch out for that. Nice people. I hope they do well. Kind of out of the way from my usual Fox Valley Aurora to Elgin run, in extreme SE Aurora(Montgomery :~) Don’t miss Johnny and Sarah’s excellent reviews.

Food is delightful here! The crusts are amazing, as well as the stuffings. Everything is seasoned to perfection and the textures of everything are great. My favorite pie for now is the spicy chicken(which is not too spicy). However, every pie that I’ve tasted has been very good. I’m excited to go back to try some of their dessert pie! This place is a little hidden gem in Aurora located near Rush Copley Hospital. I am so glad my friend took me here to try because I would’ve never known about it! The staff is great and the owner is very friendly! This is definitely a great place to try if you haven’t been, you will not be disappointed.

Doesn’t look like much but WOW is it mouthwateringly delicious! The limited menu didn’t make me feel like there were limited options. A friend and I split the Chicken & Mushroom and the Cheeseburger pot pies, and I would definitely recommend either. It could just be because I’m pregnant, but I could’ve eaten a whole other one all on my own… so I’m not sure if that means they’re a little small to fill up on one or what. :) We also split the mini dessert pies: the apple and the vanilla custard. I’m not a custard person at all, but that was delicious too! Sprinkled in cinnamon… it was really hard to decide which I liked better. I’m 30 minutes away from this place, but it would be worth it to take my hubby here next time I have a craving for flaky pastry and delicious filling… Mmmm… I think I feel one coming on now…

I would never have known about this place if I hadn’t gone to a party in Aurora where Pie Boss offerings were served. Glad I’m now in the know! Look past the fact that their website looks like it was made with Angelfire circa 1998 and take a look at the menu. If you have any interest in meat of the bovine persuasion, do yourself a big favor and get the pepper steak pie. Spicy and meaty with a nice flaky crust, it’s yummy with an unusual twist. Other guests were enjoying the spicy chicken and spicy mixed vegetable. I will definitely have to go to the actual store to partake of other flavors. Remember to call half an hour ahead so they can bake it fresh for you! You can also get frozen pies to go. Pie Boss offers something unique in a world of dining options. I will definitely return on my own.

It’s not real often I give places 5 stars, but this place deserves it. For what it’s intended to be, all I have to say is «Nailed it!» From the gates, I was a little put off by the menu. I was being unfair. I had pegged the selection as being insufficient. Since its so seldom I make mistakes it’s hard to remember what to do when you make one, but I suppose it’s admit it. So, I admit it. While the selection is small, it isn’t insufficient. They have styles for everyone’s taste, from kids to spice loving adults and everything in between. We ran the while gamut with our order. When I walked in, the smell grabbed me by the nostrils and led me around the counter area like the visible fog type scent hand we used to see on Tom & Jerry. You know the one. I was greeted by a young women who informed me that my pies were still cooking and should be ready in two minutes. Meanwhile I see who I assume to be the owner in the back, busily rolling out a fresh batch of aromatic, flaky deliciousness. I get my pies, a spinach feta for the wife, ham and cheese for the kiddies, cheeseburger just for fun, chicken perri Perri and sausage roll for myself. We carry them out as there are only two tables for eating in. I’m confident they have future expansion on the horizon. I tasted all of the pies, each as delicious as the last. But the crowning jewel for me was undoubtedly the peri peri. According to the menu and the owner when I called, this was supposed to be very spicy. I eat ghost peppers on my ghost peppers so I’m no stranger to spice. When I hear«really spicy» I figure it must be tame like a chipotle or some other variety of toddler teething pepper. This, though, really was quite spicy! I’d compare it to the hear level somehow near a fresh jalapeño up toward the seed cluster. It was phenomenal! The taste, the texture… it was all there. The chicken was all white meat, tender and flaky as was the dough, all combined with a nice spicy curry type sauce. The sausage roll was also really good. Unlike any sausage I’ve had before. This is not some Italian or polish rolled in a refrigerator biscuit. It’s dense, savory, and fresh. Please go. Do it for me. If you don’t like it, I’ll personally eat it for you. The people are very friendly, service is made to order, food is exceptional, prices are almost too low, and you get the privilege of saying«I’ve eaten at pie boss»

I love this place! I feel bad that I haven’t come more often or that I haven’t yet written a review, but now I can begin to correct those mistakes. Located near Copley Memorial Hospital, it’s located in strip mall at the corner of Waterford and Montgomery Road, and well worth finding – as you’ll find nothing else like this anywhere near. I’m not at all familiar with South African food, and don’t come from any pie/pastry-and-meat-eating culture, so I can’t tell you how ‘authentic’ or ‘traditional’ anything here is; all I can tell you is that I find their offerings to be delicious and very filling. They have a standard menu(chicken pot pie, chicken and mushroom, something with beef, something with ground beef and cheese, spinach and feta), plus ‘daily special’ type things; they also have a sausage thing and something called a ‘pasty’(which is pronounced like ‘nasty’ not ‘tasty’). I don’t really like beef or sausages, so my experience here is limited to veggie pies and chicken; I did try their beef-and-something pie once and I thought it was weird-tasting and gamey, but it really could have just been me. First I have to mention – as others have more thoroughly and eloquently mentioned – that the crust is freakin awesome; it’s tasty, flaky, and just the right amount of chewy. My favorites are the chicken pot pie, the spicy chicken, and the spinach and feta. The pies with chicken are both incredibly flavorful, and the chicken isn’t all sad and dried out; the chicken pot pie has a tasty gravy with peas and carrots, and, best of all, you can actually taste everything, it doesn’t all just blend together; the spicy chicken isn’t actually all that spicy – to me anyway – which is probably best because you can still taste the warm spices and appreciate the great flavors; the spinach and feta is also really good – it’s not drenched in salt which means you can really appreciate the mild taste of spinach. My only complaint about the spinach and feta, and actually it isn’t really a complaint so much as a statement of my own personal preference, is that I wish it had a little more feta; it’s also worth noting that whatever feta it is that they use isn’t as salty as feta can sometimes be. I haven’t yet tried their desert pies, but I can’t imagine that they’re anything but awesome. I’ve only ever gone/ordered from Pie Boss between 1:00 and 3:00, so I’m not sure what it’s like during lunch or late afternoon/early evening, but every time I’ve gone I’ve just walked in and ordered from whatever pies they have at the time and I’ve never felt like I had to settle for anything. They do suggest ordering about 30 minutes before you’d like to pick up your pies, so if you want something specific or are ordering at a busy time I would suggest doing that, but otherwise I would suggest just walking in and letting whoever is behind the counter walk you through. I also have to mention the people behind the counter, who have been INCREDIBLY friendly and interactive; the last couple of times I’ve gone they asked if I had ever been there before, which I think is a really nice touch: if you are a first-timer they really do take the time to talk to you and make you feel comfortable about ordering. Oh, and one last thing I would like to mention about the pies: they don’t look large, so you might think that they’re going to leave you wanting, but trust me when I say that they’re much more substantial and filling than they appear. I probably would go with five stars just based off of the food and the service, but five stars is a no-brainer here to me especially when you consider that there isn’t anything like this around. With great food, great service, and a unique concept, I think Pie Boss is a place that people should make a point of trying. Bookmark it if you haven’t yet!

So lately I have been craving a good meat pie. After doing some searching on the interwebs I discovered this place. Let me tell you… this place is indeed a hidden gem. It looks very unassuming but it holds some delicious items. I tried their steak pie and sausage roll. Both had an incredibly flaky crust. The steak was tender and swimming in a delicious gravy. The sausage roll was basically a flaky croissant with a yummy sausage stuffing. Both were so good I managed to chomp down on them within minutes. But I took my time eating the flaky crust. The staff were very friendly and they explained everything they made was in-house. It really tasted like it was. Very fresh. Like eating homemade pie. The whole place smelled like a bakery. I decided to even take home one of their custard pies for dessert. A bit small but very yummy. Like eating rice pudding pie. My only complaint is its selection. Though varied and with different specialties made each week I would like to see some more options… like a pizza pie… or a gyro pie for example. Something a bit more extreme or experimental. Overall this place was yummy and unique. A bit out of the way for me to drive but definitely worth it. If you ever feel like eating a tummy-warming meal then come to Pie Boss.

Hot Diggity Damn! I usually am not into pastries of this sort… I don’t like pies in general. I have some fam from Michigan so they’re all really into pasties but it’s never been my thing. So much crust… ugh. Enter: Pie Boss. Pie Boss does have a lot of crust but… it’s just unlike any other I’ve ever had. I don’t mind all the dough and not only that but I think that may just be the best part of their goods. It’s flaky in all the right places on the edges, soft & gooey in all the rights places in the middle, just absolutely delicious. I tried a few different specimens to get a good scope and now am dying to go back to try more items. +Sausage Roll $ 3.49 — This looked like a snack in my carry out box, but after I popped it in the oven, man did the sausage expand with some heat(har har har, too easy). Seriously though, it accounted for an entire lunch for me. It was so good. +Chicken & Mushroom meat pie $ 5.29 — Holy goodness. I swear I didn’t think it could get better after trying the sausage roll but I was wrong. The chicken & mushroom mixture was so insanely good, eloquent words are eluding me from describing the delight properly. +Spinach & Feta vegetarian pie $ 4.99 — This might have been my favorite of the bunch! It’s really so hard to pick because I felt like each was better than the next. Thi s pie, along with the others, was completely packed full of spinach & feta goodness. I absolutely loved it. I *have* to get back to buy some pasties to go to see how they stack up for my fam vs. those from the UP. As everyone said, call 30 – 35 minutes before going in so they can prepare your pies to eat there. I prefer taking mine frozen. Trust me, they taste just as amazing if you heat them up at home. It’s super easy & makes for a filling, delicious meal! I live nowhere near Aurora but I’m already planning my next trip to Pie Boss in my head! Nomnomnomz.
