This is such a charming place to get a great meal! There are so many historic things to check out too, this place has a great story and feels like everyone is family! I love the atmosphere and the food is delicious! I always looks forward to stopping here and know I will get awesome service, they really care and make it right!

My first time here and it was great. Customer service was great and so was the food. I only gave a 3 because I was a little surprised at the prices for a small town restaurant. Over $ 5 for 2 pancakes.

Please read my original review to see what made this fool red in the face and punching his own reflection in the mirror while screaming «Khan!!!» It really makes me laugh when people who have no business, food or people skills yet dump their time and money into something that literally nobody cares about. Sell the place to people who know how to run a restaurant.

I went there with my wife and ordered Razor clams for me and Halibut and chips for here. The mashed potatoes where good. The clams were not cooked correctly and extremely greasy. The halibut had a coating as hard as a brick.
I confronted the owner /​manager and they got really defensive with me and arrogant also. I would not recommend this to anyone expecting really good quality food cooked properly.

Wow, surprised at some of the reviews! I drive out to this place from Wilsonville about once a week when I’m in town. A gem as far as I’m concerned. The ladies always give great service, and I come here for the tasty food. I always order the same breakfast; Country Scrambler #1, as it is just outstanding with layers of breakfast tastiness.
We need to support small businesses like this one while we still have them. Too many are fading away, leaving us with faceless chain ops with institutional type food. I’ll take Top-​Of-​The Hill any day.

We love to support smaller, local businesses and gave this place a shot. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst dinning experiences we’ve had this year.
We aren’t picky eaters and are generally patient people. We had a family of 5 come into the restaurant. The place wasn’t overwhelmingly busy.
Waitress began to take our order, STOPPED mid-​conversation, walked away to another table and took their food order. She left their table, placed their ticket order and distributed food that was ready at the pass. One of the waitresses returned to take our order, kept hitting me with the menu in a passive aggressive manner. Finally, placed our ticket and ignored us. Customers who arrived before us received their food before our meal. We noticed our food was up at the pass for a while and tried to get the waitress’s attention with no success. Ultimately, the meal was delivered to our table. Stale and cold hash browns, eggs cold. We had lost our appetite long before our food arrived, disappointed at the service we were receiving.
We were the only Mexican (non-​white) people eating breakfast that morning, we were treated like second-​class citizens (at best) at this place. I wonder, is this the reason why we were treated so poorly? It would be shame. I’m going to have to live with this curiosity because I won’t be returning to find out.

I agree with pretty much all of the reviews.
My wife and I just moved to the area and were told that we should try this place. I would say that maybe you should try to avoid this place if you are really hungry and wanting to actually eat. I ordered the chicken fried steak. I wouldn’t feed this to my dog. My wife’s corned beef hash was burnt. (Hard to screw up canned corned beef hash). Her poached eggs came in bowl of water. Bland food. I could barely cut my steak with my steak knife.
Surprisingly there were several people in this place. I was hoping for a better experience.

If you’re looking for enormous helpings of good fashioned fried deliciousness then this little country gem is for you.
The price is average, but the value is out of this world. The onion ring appetizer was a meal all its own. And the portion of fries that came with my burger were heaping.
The food is good most often it seems like straight out a box with a few things made from scratch, but all very tasty none the less.
They’re aren’t a lot of places to eat in Aurora. This place is a little out of town but well worth the journey.

I went for breakfast and this place was atrocious. It is only 20 miles from Portland, but light years in terms of its approach to food. The coffee is weak and served with the little packets of creamer that have chemical additives. The «jam» is of the variety in packets with corn syrup and artificial flavoring. The coup de grace were my scrambled «eggs,» which were the most disgusting I’d ever seen. I think they were egg beater. Unnaturally steaming hot. I didn’t even try them. This place has great history but needs to be updated to modern sensibilities.
To top it all off, months after writing this review, the owner sent me a nasty message referring to me as «vermin.» Apparently, they don’t take criticism well. So much for freedom of expression!

I love these types of comfortable restaurants! Went here with a friend for breakfast after having driven by it many times and always seeing the parking lot pretty full. I had the Denver small omelet with hash browns — very good.
It’s a friendly place where you seat yourself and can expect good service without any hassle. The ambience is older, yet clean and adequate.

Local people recommended it… what’s hard about taking people’s recommendations is not knowing what their food knowledge is. It was disappointing. Positive points: a good variety on the menu, decent prices, and friendly service. Negative points: The waitress recommended I get swiss cheese with my spinach mushroom omelet. It was not swiss cheese. It was white american – which tastes exactly like yellow american cheese (do a blind taste test if you don’t believe me). So I began my breakfast by trying to scrape the slice of melted «cheese» off the top, but it was also filled with it. Furthermore, the mushrooms were not fresh – definitely had the slimy, oyster-​like texture of canned mushrooms, so I picked a number of those out of the omelet also. My pancakes were topped with a scoop of the unnaturally yellow-​tinged margarine I have come to hate. Also scraped that off. By this time I had a pile of margarine, «swiss» cheese, canned mushrooms and an orange slice (also not a good garnish because the taste of it spreads to everything). The pancakes themselves were not remotely fluffy. They were flat with a gummy texture and bitter taste. Our table also shared corn fritters, which were still raw on the inside. When you walk in and see the outdated wood paneling and décor, don’t tell yourself this might be a diamond in the rough – the food pairs nicely with the atmosphere.

Great food, friendly service, and a very funny owner! Try the number one breakfast, it’s great. The prices are great, especially on their liver and onions! I know a lot of people don’t like it, but of you do this liver steak is for you. Oh and they got a new food cart. Yummmmm!

Let me say this of the 4 customers in or group I was the only who did not get sick.
I had halibut fish and chips tasted like Gorton’s fisherman so hard to ruin frozen fish. My aunt had the meat loaf or at least that is what they call it. She sent it back as uneatable. When we got the bill they would not take the charge for it off. I could go on about the chicken strips and the pork chop but you get the idea. My advice if you stop here for anything but breakfast have the pepto handy.

Great breakfast and service this morning! Secret gem of Aurora– well worth the drive!

I’ve been to this place at least 4 times. The food is good. Surprisingly this time SWMBO came away from her breakfast plate feeling a little hungry.
I had the chili-​hamburger and couldn’t quite finish all that I had — and there was about $ 1 difference in price between the two.
While freshly prepared and served promptly, the food is often not made there (i.e. the fries and rings are commercial frozen variety, the sausage is pretty standard).
I regret not trying the soup of the day — I saw it being served up to someone near me and I wished I had that instead. I wonder if they make their chicken tortilla soup from scratch or not.
It’s not quick, it’s not fast, it’s not cheap. It is what it is — and I’ve been there before and I’ll go there again, but not too often.

Another case of «not as good as it used to be».
I’ve been going to Top O Hill off and on for 20 plus years, more frequently in the last 5 years. Sometime in there, it went from *the* place to go for breakfast in the Canby area, to just another roadside diner offering breakfasts — nothing special.
I am a big fan of french toast, and initially they turned out some top-​notch stuff — but anymore it has an off flavor, and it often leaves me feeling sick. The coffee is weak and bitter, and the place could use a good cleaning. Yet I still come back. I’d like to see it go back to the way it was, but people will still keep coming even if it stays the same. It’s just one of those hang-​out type of places.

Classic diner/​truck stop grub, done well.
We went on St. Paddy, and they were serving green eggs and ham — fun! — we stuck with regular grub though. Breakdown:
Hobo Breakfast (biscuits/​gravy, hashbrowns, eggs)
B/​G were just OK for me. Gravy could have used more sausage and more seasoning. Hashbrowns were good, and eggs were eggs, scrambled.
Chicken fried steak (eggs, toast, gravy)
I thought the steak was pretty good, hubby was disappointed with the gravy and steak both though. Toast was toast (lots of it!) and eggs were eggs, over easy.
We’ll be back to try more when we’re in Canby. The service was excellent, our waitress was friendly and hospitable, great down-​home atmosphere here!

This is the perfect example of a place I really liked, but I still can’t go higher than three stars.
If you want a blast from the past out in the country, then this is the place for you. When it first opened in 1926, it was the only eating establishment between Portland and Salem. This was pre-​Interstate 5, when Highway 99 was the main trucking corridor and the menu still serves down home basic fare.
I liked the variety of comfort food on the menu and as a bonus, they serve breakfast all day. Why I can’t go higher than three stars is the food is just average. They do make a good old fashioned milkshake and the service was perfect small town friendly. But, I wouldn’t recommend the mashed potatoes as a side and our entrees received mixed reviews.
In the old days, they were a 24-​hour truck stop, but now they are open 6:00a — 8:00p daily, so don’t stop by for a late night snack. There is something truly comforting about sitting in an old fashioned booth and relaxing while the world just passes by outside. Didn’t see a cell phone or Blackberry in the place.
