My past experience with framing is that good=expensive and meh=affordable. I’ve been ‘collecting’ flat stock prints and works from Armadillo Christmas Bazaar for 5 years, and constantly telling myself, «I’ll frame it later when I have more money.» My husband put his foot down on unframed art on the walls so I, reluctantly, went in search of a framer. I didn’t think I had the $$ for good and I don’t want meh on my walls anymore. Aleksander’s is in my neighborhood so I gave them a shot on one print, and boy am I glad I did! They are very upfront about what an economy frame/matte vs. and finer frame/matte will cost and are very happy to work with you until you find the balance between what you like and what you can afford. I never felt rushed. The price was right. The framed print came back terrific. I will be taking my prints to them regularly, one a month, to get all my art framed. HIGHLY recommend them. I don’t know much about pricing framers; I only know what I spent. My simple, but pretty, frame and matte on a small piece cost me about $ 180. 5 years ago I had an elaborate frame that cost $ 350, 3 years ago my husband had two prints framed, rather simple frame but spendy matte, for about $ 200. I am very happy; high ratio of value to quality.

Richard and Jodene have been framing for over 30 years. I personally have known them for 17 years. Now, they are no longer located on 11th street, they work out of there home. They can customize any picture, framing the simplest photo and make it that much more special/beautiful when you go to pick it up. Actually a samples of there work hangs all over Katz’s. They don’t advertise and depend on word of mouth. The 2 have lived in Austin over 35 years since graduating from UT. I have over 25 frames at my house and all are made with superior craftsmanship/love.
