I’ve made three trouble-free cross-country moves with Wheaton, so when I needed to move from Austin to San Francisco in 2012, I called American Relocation and Storage, Wheaton’s local agent. Mark Huff gave me an estimate, the loading crew showed up on time and worked quickly, and I was happy to have used the company for the move. Now, after being back in Austin for 18 months, I have to move again, this time to another central Texas city. I emailed Mark, he responded quickly, came over to see how much stuff I have, and very soon after sent me an estimate which I accepted. He explained everything, including the different rules between moving interstate and intrastate. I’ll update this review next month after they’ve picked up and delivered my belongings, but I’m confident this will be another good move.

Just another example of why you should read reviews before using a company… we didn’t and we’re now worse off than we were before. While the company was fairly quick in loading the stuff into their truck, there were quite a few things that were broken during the move not to mention stolen from our house. We haven’t even fully unpacked everything so there’s no telling what all was stolen/damaged/broken. When I first noticed that the company had stolen a dyson vacuum cleaner($ 400) and a black and decker power drill($ 100) I brought it to Mark Huff’s attention. You would think that there would be a sense of sympathy that he would have but he took the route of saying that there wasn’t any proof that the vacuum existed and that«power drills are easy to replace». His recommendation was to file a police report(which will not do anything — he knew that). They did end up sending us partial reimbursement for the vacuum/drill($ 200, I’m still out at least $ 200) and I’ve now noticed multiple things that were damaged during the move including but not limited to: * wine rack($ 500 //probably 100% ruined) * master king size bed frame damaged($ 500+ in repairs) * probably more as we haven’t unpacked everything yet Another shady practice is their not-to-exceed quote — they high-ball a quote and see if you bite on it. If you do, there’s very little chance that you’ll come in under that quote even if you move 4SUV loads of stuff in between the quote(as we did). Just a shady tactic that really speaks to the company as a whole. Do what you want but this company isn’t honest, isn’t fairly priced and is clearly hiring the wrong type of personnel. My advice? Do not use this company and tell your friends to avoid them as well.

We have significant damage from a move with this company organized by my insurance company. The movers did not use any floor runners or protection despite(I later learned) them having these materials in their van and being instructed to do so prior to leaving. We had a $ 4k walnut media console broken in two places, watched as our couch was layed and then dragged on the sidewalk, leaving mud ground into the corners. A large storage cabinet was chipped and the feet lost, leaving it impossible to open. Drywall broken and the floors we moved furniture out to replaced were left with four large gouges. The men literally left without telling me with the job half done. A second crew arrived to take care of the problem. I will file claims but this level of damage is absolutely unacceptable, especially given that this was my insurance company’s recommendation. Steve, I plan to alert the insurance company too in the hopes they will reevaluate their businesses relationship with you.

Just moved from Austin to California and it was the smoothest move we’ve ever had(and we’ve had a lot!). A pleasure to work with and I can’t recommend them strongly enough.

I used this company because they did modular cubicles as well as office moves. Last minute, my boss decides he wants to move three offices around. After calling them, Joy came out to give me a quote. They were the lowest but most responsive. So I booked them. The day of the move, three guys came in at 8:30. They were done by 10:30. Fast, helpful, courteous, and efficient. I couldn’t ask for a better crew. If we move again, they will be getting our business.

My mother used American Relocation to move from my home to an apartment. Mark Huff, the director of sales and marketing, personally looked over all of her things and gave her a quote. The movers were very careful with all of her furniture and were polite and courteous as well. She had an excellent experience and I would have no problem referring American Relocation to other friends and family.

Because of their good review on BBB, I used this company to move from Austin to San Jose CA. The sales guy(Kyle) looked very professional and worked very hard to get my business(after it was another story, when i had problems he was very weak) The movers were supposed to come on Wednesday to pack things up for a moving on Thursday. On Wednesday 1 guy showed up, worked 3 hours(including lunch) and left. ¾ on the stuff was not packed. The next day another guy showed up(a very hard working one) and worked his ass off while waiting for boxes and a crew. They scratched my wood floor while pushing a piece of furniture(instead of lifting it) and let’s just say the crew was of unequal quality. Finally they told me that I would get my stuff back the following Thursday while on the phone we had agreed it would be Monday /Tuesday(please double check the quote and be firm on the arrival date, don’t get fooled by «this is a window» we have to write this legally. blal bla) On the positive side, the truck driver was a very nice guy(part of the wheaton group) and did a great job unpacking with a good crew on the san jose side(but they have nothing to do with the Austin guys)

This was the worst moving experience we have ever had. I don’t think a moving experience could get any worse than this. We had the elevator to our apartment booked from 8am-12pm. A representative from the company had done a walkthrough of our house and knew exactly how much we had to move and how many people and hours she needed to schedule to get it done in that time. The movers showed up at the apartment building at 9am, an hour late because they stopped to get food. In between loads they kept stopping to take phone calls, naps and smoke pot. Eventually, one of the movers left and we lost use of the freight elevator. The remaining movers decided to take a nap. I placed numerous calls to the customer service phone number and the agents business and cell number with no response. Finally, around 3pm in order to make sure we got our stuff out of the truck, my husband and I ended up having to help them move it ourselves. By the end of the day we have pictures of sleeping workers and ALCOHOL in the truck. Also, 2 broken bookshelves, a broken dresser, gauges out of a dining room table, 4 broken wine glasses, 1 broken floor lamp and a broken serving dish. They also dropped our dryer flat onto the tile in our kitchen, hopefully it still works. NEVER, EVER use this company. I cannot stress this enough. I have never regretted anything more in my life. What should have taken 4 hours, took 12 with our help and a short move across town ended up in more broken furniture than I could ever imagine.
