BOM Club UYE #7 Stonehouse Wood Fire Grill

People ask me what the goal of the Austin Unilocal BOM (Burger Of the Month) Club.
«Yes, I know, person who has never come to one of these… P Terry’s is fast food.»
«Yes, I know, person who has never come to one of these… That place DOES also have a location in Dallas.»
We’d get skewered for «jumping on the new Shake Shack bandwagon» if we scheduled one there now, even more than how we’d get skewered if we ignore «the biggest thing in Austin burger news since the opening of the first Hopdoddy». Heaven forbid I even mention «that-​California-​chain-​that-​shall-​not-​be-​named».
But yeah, it’s your basic «book club», only replace your living room with a place that serves a decent burger… It’s more about the best part of Unilocal: the community getting together. Oh, and eating.
It was a great warm Spring afternoon at the Stonehouse Wood Fire Grill. Kids climbing on all the things, the giant jenga, a Unilocaly 10% discount, a Shiner Bock or two (it’s BYOB here)… Even a surprise visit by the lovely Alicia K. I didn’t really get any takers for the Unilocal swag I had brought along, since most of the folks there already had ample Unilocal grocery bags and fingerless gloves. I hope Catherine T. liked her belated birthday magazine.
Speaking of skewers, this place even satisfies the veggie-​folks with their kabobs and portabella offerings. But… dat burger, tho…
Wife declared her hickory burger the «best burger I’ve had in years». And I see her point. I may have been a little harsh with my review the first time I visited. It IS, of course, always best to have a burger fresh and not 15 minutes old after a drive home. Chef’s Chris and Eric are just a couple old friends who have found their niche in a trailer, semi-​hidden behind a gas station. You should seek them out, and grab a burger or three…
NOTE: Next BOM (#8) is this Saturday at Shady Grove. Come on by and have a ‘rita under the trees…

Another win win! Flame grilled 7oz patties, beer (compliments of Joe C.), Unilocal swag, and, a picnic table crawling with Unilocalers on a beautiful Austin day. It just doesn’t get any better. The guys working the trailer gave our group 10%off. That was super cool! The burgers were fucking delicious! I accidentally got mine with no dressing. That’s never happened to me before. Ever! Guess what. That burger didn’t need my usual add of mustard. You ain’t gonna find that too often. Good food in good company on a beautiful day! Fuck yeah! Can’t wait to see what they come up with in April! Thanks again Joe & Chris! Unilocal rulz!
