Boring. The same vendors that are at all of the local Austin art shows, but squeezed into a small venue that makes you feel like you’re being herded like cattle. I felt claustrophobic and stuck. I had to get out of there. I appreciate the artists work, but many of them are upscale and out of my price range.

I find this place to be a bit overrated actually. It had a really good selection and the people are really friendly but the vibe seemed weird to me. Maybe its the school atmosphere or maybe its because the people sit at their booths pushing their wares but it just seemed weird. I prefer the Blue Genie Art Bazaar more for my local art/crafty shopping experience where its setup more as a storefront and goes for entire month instead of a couple of days. Many of the same people have booths/tables setup at both though, but it did not suit my shopping style. Well worth a visit if you want to support local art. YOUSHOULDALWAYSWANTTOSUPPORTLOCALART!!!

Lots of fun, interesting stuff and possible gift ideas. It’s a lot of the same vendors as last year though, and the same folks are at Blue Genie. But still, fun stuff, a good cause, and a cool, funky neighborhood. The kid bands are entertaining as well. Unfortunately the Houston guy(Lawyer who went to Rice) wasn’t there with his soap this year, which I always buy a bunch of, and all the new soap vendors were crazy overpriced. If you want a quick sample about what’s cool about Austin, this is event is a good place to start.

Love this show. We were in the fair last year and the people that put in on and all the volunteers treat the artists so well. Can’t wait to display our metal sculptures again this year. There are so many gift ideas that are very reasonable. I want to spend all the money I make on other artist’s things.

All I want for Christmas is the Cherrywood art fair! Last year I decided to stop shopping at big box stores for gifts and instead shopped local. I bought personal handmade gifts for my loved ones and I found most of those treasures at the Cherrywood art fair. Handmade journals, jewelry, soaps and purses. I secretly want all of the crafts for myself, but it’s also a great way to cross people off your gift list. Even if you are on a budget, there are fun gifts to find or you can just spend time walking around and enjoying the sites, sounds, and smells. There are delicious snacks and drinks available(including coffee). And most important, It’s a free event and it’s a good way to start your holiday season.

Held annually at the Cherrywood Elementary School off of 38 ½ Street, this Art Fair has a little bit something for everyone. I got a beautiful hand dyed silk/satin scarf, a Sunday edition of the New York Times subscription with a free, desperately need umbrella, and the most scrumptiously-scented handmade glycerin soaps from Nepenthe’s Bathtime. There were also artists, candles, and even hula hoops. And, it beats Armadillo Bazaar because it is FREE.

I am a little biased because I have volunteered with the Cherrywood Art Fair for five years, but that is how much I love it! My kiddo has been saving up since July to buy from her favorite artists! It totally rocks! Be sure to RSVP on Unilocal for the 2010 Fair at and get it on your calendar!

I am with Keri B. on this one«Next Year I vow not to buy any Christmas gifts before I shop here. I found something for practically everyone here»! BTW when Keri called me as I was leaving she insisted that I go back and go see the vendors inside. Fortunately for my bank account I had my dog with me and it was too warm and sunny out to leave her in the car:) I purchased the sweetest ever handwoven caps and purses for my nieces for only 10.00 each! from the vendor. But wished I could splurge and by them and myself the cute furry hats with kitty ears for 50.00. Unfortunately, I had already spent too much on them on non returnable gifts:( I got my Mom one of those giant Hula Hoops from Natural Magick. Yes my Mom is a hooper. She can hoop for an hour while reading a book or talking on the phone. Got some Fizzie Wizzies for my nieces to share bath tub bubble fun. I was tempted but refrained from buying my Pup a fancy collar from Love Your Mutt. She does not care what her collar looks like she would rather have 20.00 worth of bacon. The trailer was very awesome and informative. Next year I will most definitely shop here first! It seemed like most of the booths took credit cards except AMX and if you pay cash no sales tax.

Please someone stop me! Next year I vow NOT to buy any Christmas gifts before I shop here. I found something for practically everyone here(well, not my redneck bro-in-law or my über conservative brother). Some folks I had already bought gifts for are gonna get tons cause I just could not pass up the cuteness and bought more. First, it’s FREE to get in and it’s huge with a variety of unique things to look at, alot of which is very affordable. I got handmade soaps for all the ladies and cute little bottlecap keychains for my newly driving nieces and a day of the dead necklace for my best girlfriend who misses Austin so much. I also got sugar scrub and a mermaid necklace for me! Some really creative stuff here… jewelry made from buttons and recycled tin cans, sweet little vintage material purses, super soft clothes made from organic material, and of course all the whimsical screen printed baby tees. Wish I had more babies to buy for! They also have a cafeteria that looked to be serving mostly tacos but I didn’t partake. Parking and driving in the area can be a bear as it is insanely packed. It’s so worth it though! I vowed I would try to buy all locally made gifts for everyone this year and I did. They may not be an XBOX360, but they are unique and bought with every person’s personality in mind. That makes it special!** **that being said, I hope my Abilene kin, who think I’m weird just for living in Austin, can appreciate it. It’s better than the Wal-Mart sweater I will get from them for sure!**
