Didn’t try the food, but dropped in late on a Wednesday night. Beer selection was good. The waitresses and bar tenders were friendly, and the band(Bad Marmot) was excellent.

I had a very early lunch beer here, the bar tender seemed to be short with me and my friend but the drinks where reasonably priced and they where the only bar open at 10:30 am, also they had plenty of local beers to choose from

The Philly cheese steak is amazing! Fresh bread and the owner takes time to talk to everyone. Great place

Lol my friends and i walk to the front door early in the night and the«Manager» said they were having a private party. That was obviously complete bs because they weren’t checking any of the white people who were coming in. Even one of the other guys checking ids said we should of got in with no problem. Guess they were feeling extra racist that night. Oh well we got into every other real bar on 6th street just fine: p. *racism gets 0 stars

I read a comment about racism by the«Manager», and I completely agree. Myself and two of my brothers went to this establishment and there were three bouncers there. Two younger white bouncers saw me taking out my ID and said, «SIR, you are definitely over 21, you can go in». As I was walking in this short old white guy stepped in my way and said: «are you on the guest list, cause this is a private party, you can’t come in». Then as he was saying that multiple white patrons kept walking in behind him. What’s scary is he reminded me of the short KLAN leader from one of the Dave chappelle skits. Anyways, I’ll go with the Educated phrase of one of the other users: «racism gets 0 stars». Btw sir, the theme is: «keep Austin weird», not«make Austin racist»

Chill pub. Live band and very friendly. Not too packed on Saturdays so nice break from the crowd. Good stop for your 6th street crawl

First stop of the night. Dead sober. What a poor establishment. We were looking to have our first drink of the night here. The man working the door was annebriated. Usually this isn’t a problem. We’ve all been there. My friend from Germany and I gave the ‘door man’ our ID and the door man looked at my friend’s ID and said«Deuthche, oh, you’re German?» He said«yes» and mumbled a poor German phase as he handed back the ID. My friend walked in no more than two steps and the ‘door man’ said«Hey, I am not done with you. Do you know I am the owner? I don’t have to serve you. If you don’t like it than get out.» At this point he is holding one arm against the door way to hold himself up. Somehow he signaled the police over. They were not sure whether to hold him up or ask us what was going on. He pointed at my German friend with a threatening gesture and told us to go somewhere else. If you are a WASP, this place might be good for you. Otherwise I recommend an establishment more tolerable to diversity. God bless Texas.

Highly enjoyable live music(a great guitarist) on a Friday night. Good local beer. Enjoyable atmosphere, and more low key than other 6th Street places.

I have been to this pub before and had a decent time. I work for a hotel in the area and have even recommend it to guests. However I will NEVER advise ANYONE to come here after how I was treated today. My friend and I had just finished watching THEINTERVIEW at Alamo Ritz and wanted to keep the good vibes and celebration of freedom going! The bartender(and apparent owner) asked for my ID I handed it to him as we all seemingly joked about how young I look(I’m 24) and how my friends always seem to get carded when they are with me — which is not a big deal I completely understand a business wanting to cover their own ass legally and making sure they don’t violate TABC regulations and state laws. The bartender/owner continued to stare intently at my ID and I said something to the effect of how the ID was real and if he needed to ask me clarifying questions he could. Instead he asked me to either show him a card with the same signature as on the ID or to re write the signature for him. I told him that ID picture and signature were from when I was 19. He said the date one the ID was from Oct of 2014 — Which is true, the ID was renewed as it was so they keep all the information. Still trying to be cordial I signed my name on the paper he gave me, asked if he needed the ID and any other information — he said he didn’t and after looking at my signature told my friend and I to leave his bar and never come back and as we were peacefully walking out threatened to call the police. Granted once outside I did encourage him to call the police as my dad is a cop and I know enough to know that we did not violate any laws(left when asked, standing on a public street, he continued the conversation so not loitering(recorded the conversation), and not publicly intoxicated) — at that he just said that neither of us should return to his establishment. So in sum, we showed up in a great mood on Christmas, showed our current and valid IDs, answered any questions we were asked and were refused service and thrown out. I am an Austin native and have NEVER been treated so rudely, there are plenty other bars on 6th that were more than glad to have my service and money. Don’t bother going here if this is how upper level management and the apparent owner decides to treat people.

From my experience wandering around 6th St, this is an above-average, solid bar on 6th St. On consecutive nights we were enticed to come in from the live music playing on their legit-ass stage. After a few hours of jamming & drinks, our tab was pretty reasonable. Try a Bloody Mary, or any mixed drink really– the bartenders here aren’t stingy.

When visiting Austin, we asked one of our friends that lives there where we should go. Ya know, getting a locals perspective. One of the places she suggested getting a drink at was this place. We expected an «Irish bar», what we got was a small music venue w/a bar in the middle. *clap* *clap* *clap**clap* Deep in the heart of Texas! We found out very quickly that this was our friends Cheers. Their draft selection consisted of all TX beers and a couple non TX mainstays. I loved this since the only beer we get from TX in our area is Shiner(I also do love Shiner). The staff was great, very personable and attentive. Prices were great as well. This is definitely one of those places that you go for the local experience. We’ll be back next time we’re in town, and I wouldn’t be surprised in the bartenders«knew our names».

This is the best bar on 6th street and that’s why I have been coming to Darwin’s for years and years. If you are looking for a loud club or a packed bar, this place is not for you. Monday-Thursday, it is quiet and that’s what I like. Darwin’s is a pub. You can just chill at the bar, order some delicious food(Try the kabob) and relax. There is almost always live music on the weekends, so it will be a little louder and more crowded. It’s a great place to enjoy live local music if that’s what you’re into. If you’re looking for club/dancing music, you’ll want to try someplace else. If you’re looking to have a good, cheap beverage and hear some good local music, give Darwin’s a try. ***PS, Ladies, these are the best bathrooms on 6th. Full doors are great for privacy and changing purposes and they are almost always clean and tidy.

Whenever I hit 6th street, I end up stopping here at some point or another(or sometimes more than once!). The live music is loud, and they have a decent selection of beer on tap. The bartenders sometimes seem like they’ve had their day ruined, but other than that, cool place to hang out for a bit.

Stopped in for a quick drink & to use the restroom, however John was so attentive and friendly that we ended up staying for a few rounds and a great chat! He made the experience and the dark brooding environment was exactly what I was looking for at the moment. By far the friendliest and most down to earth service on our whole trip! Thanks!

This was a very cool little bar with a awesome name! It is small and fairly dark but has friendly staff. They have great drink specials. I got a Red Bull and vodka for $ 2! Cool place if you want something a little smaller and a little quieter but still fun.

Everything was just lackluster. I got the falafel. Dry. Just, no. I should have known better than to get that at a bar – but it was the only veg option they had and I was starving. The owner/manager/someone that looked like he was in charge was nice and offered me extra sauce which was much needed with the flavorless meal. Margarita good but expensive or happy hour. Go back? No, there are way too many better places!

I’m giving 5 stars for the fast and friendly service. You wouldn’t expect attentive service on such a busy night yet it was superb! My hunny ordered us a pepperoni pizza which was thin crust and absolutely delicious!!! The perfect amount of Crunch factor and chewy, gooey center. Extra cool points for cutting it in squares versus the traditional pizza/pie slices. The friendly waitress even brought us ranch which has NEVER happened to me in TX. I thought it was just a Northwesterner thing, but I’m sure glad she brought it! The patrons were even friendly, fun and took our photo for us. Sweet! If you’re around and second guessing ordering a pizza in this bar, go for it! You’ll be so glad you did.

We stopped in here at the behest of a local street man nicknamed«The Preacher.» He sent us on down and told us we’d enjoy ourselves. And we did! Great service, ice cold beer, and«The Black Moods» were playing. A really good experience all around, but for the ladies’ bathrooms. They were filthy.
