Great BBQ and extremely reasonable. The sausage wraps are the best deal in town. It’s good to see ed still there considering what’s been going on in Austin.

I live down the street and walk my dogs by this place every morning at 6 a.m. There is never any smoke coming out of their pit. Miraculously, BBQ is ready to be served when they open for lunch! Makes you wonder… Also, check out their City of Austin Health Dept. reports. DONOTEATHEREULESSYOULOST A BET!

I tried Ed’s today and it was fantastic. I asked for a two-meat plate with fatty brisket and the man I’m assuming was Ed said, «I got you.» I also ordered ribs. I got one spare rib and a cut of rib tips. The ribs were good and the brisket was even better. Assumed-Ed wasn’t a big conversationalist and I forgot to tell him what sides I wanted, nor did he care to ask. Which was fine; I got potato salad and beans. Both were great. The potato salad was a mustard-based salad with plenty of egg and quite sweet. Again, very good and very olé-fashion’. As for the sauce, it was a thin, olé-fashion’, light sauce that didn’t over-power the meat. A very nice old-school sauce that really complemented the meat. I ate outside in the ninety-six degree heat by a square box fan next to a TV. The perfect atmosphere for BBQ. I highly recommend Ed’s! Even if he(Assumed-Ed) is not much of a talker.

Ed’s has the best Elgin sausage in town… He slow smokes everything(the old fashioned way) and does it right. Delicious…

Worst. I live down the street at pity eaten here twice out of starvation. The first time I got a slice of brisket, a rib and a sausage link for almost $ 20– absolutely crazy for the quality and quantity. I wasn’t very impressed with anything, although they did manage to find me a crispy sausage link. I went back today and the lunch special chicken was all sold out so in my hunger I opted for two ribs. I was asked about my size preference — I said medium as I like them to be soft. He showed me the first rib, which I thought was pretty good customer service and it looked good. When I got home I saw the second rib was a tiny, tough piece from the butt of the rack. WTF? And for $ 6… Needless to say I won’t be back and I recommend you Unilocalers take your business to Sam’s on 12th.

I wont wait in line at a restaurant so i cant compare this with Franklin’s. Otherwise, I have compared this with the top ranked Austin pits as well as Muellers in Taylor, Kreuz’s, etc. This stands up with the best. I have eaten at the location even before BL Howard who preceded the Lewis’. Ed’s barbecue stands up against any barbecue I have ever tasted, and I’ve tasted plenty. He has a philosophy and sticks with it. The sides are fresh made as well.

I grew up eating here when it was Lewis’ BBQ. The name has changed a few times since Lewis retired and it seems each change the BBQ gets worse. My most recent experience they had no sides, my sausage was dry, and brisket was mostly unrendered fat. The ribs were good but a little dry. Maybe a third name change will be a charm.

Good chopped beef sandwich, tasty potato salad, and delicious banana pudding. Glad to find a good(and cheap) Bbq place in my new ‘hood.

First of all, this venue is no longer Danny’s BBQ, it is now Ed’s BBQ and also my new nearby BBQ spot at MLK Blvd and Harvey St. It was a sunny and hot Sunday afternoon here in Austin and I did not feel like taking the drive into downtown so I Unilocaled my zip for BBQ and Danny’s not Ed’s was the closest. I ordered the 3 meat combo. Ribs, brisket and Elgin links. The ribs fell off the bone and the gristle was as I like it, chewable and consumable. The links from Elgin, TX were very good but the casing did not have the snap that I prefer. The brisket was excellent, both the fatty and lean. The potato salad was good but nothing special. Now the beans had a nice flavor and weren’t swimming in water. Indeed I shall return especially to get more info on the beans and BBQ sauce which had a unique taste, not sweet and tasting like ketchup.
