This place is super-popular at lunchtime and the only reason why is that there are few other choices in the area. While breakfast is pretty good, I think its overpriced and the portions are small. They also commit the cardinal sin of making you get your own coffee from vacuum pump containers(that don’t keep the coffee hot). How hard is it for a waiter/tress to pour hot coffee at regular intervals? really? We also have been there for lunch and had perhaps the worst pasta ever. It took forever, probably because they were waiting for the pasta to reach the right completely gummy soft gross consistency. Seriously, it was inedible. I had the fish tacos which were kind of strange, but pretty good. I would actually order that again if I had to go here. Other sandwiches looked decent, but, again, they are pretty expensive for what it is and where it is. Oak Hill can do better. They have a nice outdoor patio out in the busy parking lot. Be prepared for mega cigarette smoke.

First of all, I have to say this is one of my father-in-law’s favorite places to eat so I may be a little biased(unfavorably) about this place! We generally do not agree about restaurants. However, how is it possible to get bad onion breath from a wrap that was totally flavorless? I ordered the chicken wrap that was supposed to have guacamole, but the waitress informed me they were all out of guacamole. Yet, when she brought out my wrap, I noticed that there was avacado on it. Now, isn’t avocado the main component of guacamole? Why couldn’t they whip some up? It might have slightly improved the dull, dry, blah chicken but I doubt it! My husband got bread pudding for dessert(one of his favorite desserts) and he said it tasted exactly like pine-sol. That’s never a good thing when it comes to food! Although, I don’t believe he has ever actually tasted pine-sol, I knew what he meant. I might give this place one more try for breakfast because I’ve heard that it’s good here.

This gem is tucked away at the«Y» in Oak Hill. There’s something mysterious about the grill, because every time I have ordered something from the grill, it’s beyond explanation… or is it the seasoning and the mild and light sauces that accompany it? Whatever the mystery, I am a cook. I love to cook. How can Sattelite make linguini better than I can? How do they encrust the trout to perfection and serve up those perfectly tender-crisp veggies to accompany it? Hey, I can do this! But not like Sattelite Café. If you don’t live in Oak Hill or nearby, it’s definitely worth the drive. If you DO live in Oak Hill or nearby… well, there’s just no excuse for not frequenting this lovely, candlelit diamond in the rough. Extremely reasonably priced and a decent wine selection. And when the weather is nice, there’s a deck(although the scenery could use some help since it’s in a shopping center). Another down side is that servers appear to be in training, although very pleasant. But the food prevails!

Traversing the strip-mall is a small price to pay for the good food at Flips. It’s been a regular lunch spot for myself and many coworkers and has maintained its quality for at least four years =) The seating inside can be a bit crowded during lunch. The outdoor seating is surprisingly pleasant for being tucked in a strip mall. The patio is on an elevated deck and surrounded by enough vegetation to usually distract you from the parking lot. They keep both regular and hibiscus mint iced tea in pitchers for refilling. Their homemade lemonade is wonderfully tart and fresh. Everything I have tried there has been somewhere between very good and excellent. Their Thai Salad(either side or full) has become a staple of my visits. The stuffed bell pepper is amazing and the chipotle sauce on the chipotle chicken nearly has me licking the plate clean. Their burgers are respectably juicy and tasty – I’d recommend the Guac & Jack. Their lunch specials are a great deal between 11 and 2, otherwise the prices are about on target. The service is also excellent and I can’t recall them ever being understaffed. As a resident of SW Austin, I was very excited when I heard that the owners were creating a «slightly more fancy» restaurant on Slaughter(Satellite Bistro). Unfortunately, I’ve been repeatedly disappointed with the quality of food at the Bistro and find myself driving the extra mile to eat in ye-old strip mall.

Yes, Oak Hill kind of sucks, but it now sucks less since Satellite Café is here. While the strip mall ambiance is kind of hard to stomach, the food is not. I have only been for breakfast and have since been telling everyone I know to go here at have the Mississippi Sun breakfast… it has a chipotle citrus hollandaise sauce that will make you smile.
