Implant is done, couldn’t ask for a better dentist, procedure or implant. No issues at any time with his staff, office … great folks to go see.

A couple of months ago, I visited an oral surgeon up north to see about getting my wisdom teeth removed. When I went into the office, I was greeted by the staff sitting me alone in a room and watching a VHS tape on the dangers of wisdom teeth surgery. Talk about impersonal! It was when the video was done, the surgeon came in, took one second to look at my teeth and told me they all had to be ripped out. I was really upset by how fast it had all gone down, and politely left never to return.
Fast forward to a few days ago… I went into Dr. Horne’s office and and was greeted by the reassuring and personable nature of Dr. Horne and his staff. He, himself, told me of the dangers, instead of some video tape, and I instantly felt relieved. One of the staff members, Marcus, even saw my scared face through one of the office doors, and quickly asked if he could get me anything and hurriedly reassured me. Dr. Horne answered all my questions very professionally, and didn’t sugar coat the details or risks. It was a stark contrast from the horrid bed-​side manner of the other surgeon I visited
Anyways, I couldn’t recommend Dr. Horne and his staff enough!

Dr. Horne was fantastic. I agree with the reviews that describe him as fast, reassuring, professional and wonderful. The reason for the three star rating is that his front office staff are exactly the opposite – slow, demeaning, unprofessional and outright rude. Even though we had dental insurance, apparently, because I had not told them «in time,» I was required to pay the full amount the day of my daughter’s surgery. And, they were not nice in telling me. And, they have been slow in sending the refund of over $ 1000 owed to us. So, I would refer my friends to Dr. Horne, but let them know not to expect much from his front office staff. Once you get to him and his dental assistants, you are set!

M Largeant has no interest in patient care, concern or post op care. Must be the money?
This guy is sarcastic with no compassion and indeed this is why Dr. does surgery
the patient is asleep. The techs are totally clueless and front office thinks just cause
you are MAP card you must be white trash. I am out of work RT R M CMA x 35 yrs
just can’t get a job in Austin. I was dismissed by ‘phone multiple times and paid
cash to see regular dentist. They said it was my age and I heal slower. As it ends up, I had an abscess. The only saving grace
for this company is Dr. Shedlowsky. He is precious. Compassionate and expert.

Just had all four fully impacted wisdom teeth out yesterday by Dr. Horne. He was fast, reassuring, professional, and a wonderful surgeon. The drug cocktail they gave me assured no pain and no anxiety. Just a little over 24 hours later there is very little bleeding or pain, mostly just a sore jaw. This treatment has greatly exceeded my expectations and I would recommend Dr. Horne unequivocally and without reservation.

I was referred by my insurance to go to this place since my unorganized, unprofessional regular dentist and staff at Castle Dental couldn’t do it themselves. That’s a different story. It was a very long commute (I live in Hutto) and Google maps apparently gave me the longest route ever plus traffic so I was almost late to the appt. Despite my unpleasant beginnings, I came in to a happy receptionist. Gave me the paper to fill out right away.
My dentist gave me a flash drive with my x ray on it so my surgeon, Dr. Gordon, could take a look at the two teeth I needed to extract. Apparently that wasn’t enough so I had to get 3 more x rays done (one of the teeth was VERY unusual and interestingly weird says my dentist, orthodontist, and Dr Gordon.) He even had Dr Shedlosky come in to have a look at it because it was so fascinating lol! But the x rays were free of charge which was awesome.
As this was my very first time getting any type of oral surgery or extraction, I was super nervous. Dr Gordon is a humorous man and his assistants (I think) were very sweet and funny too! Although he is a tricky man as well for tricking me into getting sedated for an extra $ 166. I wanted to get sedated but was testing him to see if he’d tell me the price. He didn’t. I knew I had to pay for sedation anyways but it’d be nice if he actually told me the price. Oh well.
Then came the actual surgery part. He talked me through most of what he was doing (butterfly pinch, putting the needle in, asking me questions) which made me feel secure. They numbed my two teeth and once sedation hit, I felt much much more relaxed and calm and quite sleepy. I just remember staring up at the wobbly ceiling and 5 minutes later BAM. Him and the other two ladies rolled everything away, my needle was out and apparently so was my teeth! Ha! It was SO quick and painless! One of the ladies thoroughly explained the after-​care procedures and I received a bag of gauze and a care pamphlet which was good.
I gave this 4 stars because everything was AMAZING except for the trickiness and I also had to wait a while longer than I’d liked to. About an hour past my appt time. Dr Gordon was quick at the job and gets straight to the point. Definitely recommend him.

I saw Dr. Shedlosky. I went in generally hating dentists after being put through a 6 month ordeal with some severe pain I’ve been having.
I don’t really care if they’re friendly so I’m not rating on that. Dr. Shedlosky is honest and knows what he is talking about. That alone gets 5 stars in my book. Overall I feel like the dental industry is overrun by people just trying to make money and not help others but he is not one of those people. After 6 months and thousands of dollars spent. He fixed my problem in an hour and it cost me $ 50.
I really wish he was a primary care physician, I would switch in a heartbeat,.

While the front desk staff are pleasant and professional, I am not having a positive experience with Dr. Gordon. I waited for over 90 minutes — at about an hour I was given one novacaine shot that was ineffective, but there was nobody to tell. I had to wait with little to no attention while the doctors sat across the hall and discussed music and sports. I had a root canal earlier in the week and was in, fully numb, and out within 60 minutes. Earlier on, I asked an assistant to turn down the radio in my room because it was loud and annoying and making me more nervous. She did happily, but a tech and the doctor turned it back up and blaring twice despite me turning it off. Lastly, I specifically asked to not be prescribed a narcotic (personal presence) and that request was either not relayed or ignored and I was told to fill a script for hydrocodone. The tooth extraction itself ended up being quick and painless, but all in all, a pretty bad experience.

Ron Horne is best oral surgeon in town and great guy.

Dr Horne is an AMAZING surgeon. I had him put in my implant & could NOT be happier with the process in the office (NEVER a moment’s pain) OR the final product. He used a machine to pinpoint the location to drill and I was knocked out the whole time. Nice nap & great work!
It’s been well over a year & NO problems whatsoever. Only down side is that I don’t get to see him anymore! He’s funny, professional, concerned and does EXCELLENT work. This work is NEVER cheap, but I think he is reasonably priced for the excellent care by him AND his entire staff.
My sincere thanks to them all.

There once was a bubbly teenage girl who dutifully went to the dentist every six months. She knew she had pretty good teeth, and when her dentist said her wisdom teeth were not impacted and she could keep them a while, she rejoiced! You see, this girls’ friends all were getting their wisdom teeth out about that time, and some of them got the worst dry sockets and they showed them to this sweet girl, who then got very scared about wisdom teeth extraction. That sweet girl went off to college, and her parents didn’t bug her to go to the dentist anymore. So she conveniently avoided the dentist for all four years of college, completely and blatantly wasting the amazing dental coverage she could have been enjoying through her dad’s insurance. And then, she graduated college, got dropped from her dad’s insurance, and found herself without dental coverage because her employer didn’t offer it. Naturally this was when she decided to be a responsible adult and go to the dentist, wherein she OF COURSE learned she had developed three cavities! And just for kicks her new dentist said she should get her wisdom teeth removed. Ha! Well, she promised her dentist she would get those dang wisdom teeth extracted as soon as she got dental insurance, and her dentist is a champ and didn’t ever pester her about it again.
Well, four years and many out-​of-​pocket dentist check ups later, that girl has dental insurance again! Good for her word, at her first dental appointment with real dental insurance, she asked her dentist for a referral to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction, and one week later, she found herself here, meeting Dr. Horne, whom her dentist very highly recommended.
Now, to brag on this scaredy cat, insurance wasting girl for a moment. Dr. Horne told her she had the best dental X-​ray he’d seen all month! She had the straightest, best looking wisdom teeth! And didn’t she know it was pretty rare to only have two wisdom teeth? Basically Dr. Horne is really very nice and personable and made that girl feel like not a huge loser for being… late mid…20s and still have her wisdom teeth. He talked over the options for anesthesia, was thorough with medical history and how this or that could affect this or that, and was very educational about the reasons why one should remove two unoffensive wisdom teeth.
The ladies working the front office were all also very friendly and professional. The billing lady sat me down, I mean, she sat the nice girl down, and went through what all insurance would cover versus patient, and the results are good! Scheduling was also a breeze (the scaredy cat could have gotten in earlier than she did, but booked it a month out for budgeting purposes, promise!).
Look for an update in April – I’ll let you know how the surgery goes! But I feel quite confident telling you that I feel like I am in very good hands, and I’m not a scaredy cat anymore. Even if I were, the staff at Dr. Horne’s office would have put me at ease. I found my big girl pants and thanks to my new insurance and Dr. Horne, those two teeth are finally coming out!

I was extremely impressed with this office! My doctor was Dr. Gordon, one of Dr. Horne’s associates. I picked this office after i got a dental discount card as
, and Dr. Horne was listed as a doctor close to me who accepted the discount card. I read the excellent Unilocal reviews, and figured I’d give these guys a shot! I’m so glad I did!
I made my apointment for a little over a week away– not because nothing was available sooner, but because of my own scheduling preferences. As a new patient I needed the consultation, but also wanted to have my windom teeth rxtracted all on the same day, and they made this possible!
I arrived a few minutes before my 1:15 appointment, and was immediately given the paperwork to fill out. I was asked to come back to the room right on time. They keep it chilly in there, so you might want to consider wearing long sleeves if you’re a cold-​natured person like I am. I gave the assistant my info (who woudl be picking me up after the proceedure, etc). and then she took some panoramc x-​rays. while we were waiting on those to develop I watched a 15-​minute video about the surgery, etc. They didnt keep me waiting at all after that was finished, and then Dr Gordon came in to go over the proceedure, my x-​ray, etc. He was very thorough and professional, while still being friendly. I signed the consent form, paid (with care credit, a credit card, AND my debit card– sorry, guys!) and then was off to start the proceedure! Marcus was the guy who set me up with my IV (and thang god for his nice warm hands!), and the awesome assistant got a blanket for me. The surgery itself took about 25 minutes or so, I believe, and then they woke me up and had already called my husband to come pick me up.
They let me keep my teeth (they’re gross, i know, but I was curious!), and were very quick with everything without making me feel rushed. They had plenty of time to answer my questions, which I appreciated. Their post-​op instructions were very clear, they called in my prescription to a Walgreens close to us (huge thanks, guys!) and even gave us directions to it! All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I’m still all numbed up, so I’m in no pain right now, but I’m confident that I will heal nicely and just as planned.
And I just wanted to mention– the front desk staff was also very nice and prompt. There wasnt a single person I met who wasn’t amazing at their job! A+, guys!

Dr. Horne is Outstanding! He is super knowledgeable, down to earth, kind, considerate, professional. He looks over all the information and exam, provides options, possible problems, results. He performed a dental implant for my 86 yr. old mother– taking out a faulty root canal and tooth. She took one aspirin afterward and had no other problems or medication. Dr. Horne and his office made her feel so welcome and tended for. I also have to have a similar surgery and he did not leave the exam room until he explained every detail and option (probably even a few times!). Cannot say enough great things about Dr. Horne. So glad he will be my surgeon.

Got a referral for Dr. Horne, but after two phone calls to the Medical Parkway office, we were so turned off by the brusk receptionist we asked our dentists for other recommendations! She was rude and short with my son, and then I called to attempt to make an appointment, and she was just as bad with me. Really felt like she considered making appointments a waste of her time! Dr. Horne is probably swell, but he should know that his staff represents him poorly. We’re looking for an office that cares about their patients and wants to build a long-​term relationship. Had much better luck with the staff at Austin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a great experience with Dr. Quaroni.

Oh wow. Oh man. Where do I start?
The Business End– great staff, friendly, efficient, helpful, understanding (of anxious parents and patients), professional. Warm environment, plush and comfortable, texas themed décor. Not a hectic feel at all, rather a controlled, calm environment. These guys have mastered the art of lowering people’s anxiety, my next paragraph is probably the best single manifestation of that fact.
SAME DAY consult and surgery. Now I don’t usually yell, but my husband and I were so thrilled at this one detail that we were already happy walking into the office two short days ago. Most surgeons will force you to pay for a consult, then have to worry for a week or more about the surgery so that by the day of, you’re freaking out. If it’s a child you’re talking about, then it’s double anxiety. My daughter had already been concerned about this since visiting the orthodontist, she didn’t need to worry further.
So the business end was great. We could tell that right away. But would the other end deliver? It would. In droves.
The Other End– I have a nine year old who is PETrified of shots– like serious panic attack-​style anxiety, but boy does she want braces. She has (well, had) a ‘shark tooth’ (plus another fused tooth) right in the front of her beautiful little face, standing in the way of her getting said braces. I’ll tell you her mom isn’t too keen on shots or dentistry either. Oh, and since we knew it was going to be a same day thing, we were all hungry– I wouldn’t eat in front of her and being the first day of winter break, she was with me from dawn, and we had instructions for her not to have eaten for 6 hours. Really glad it wasn’t 12 hours! So yeah: hungry, anxious, fearful, GREat combination.
I honestly felt sorry for our doctor before I met him. Even with a great business model, I thought: he’s got a lot of baggage in this room to deal with, there’s no winning for him here. I was prepared to be satisfied if we just got rid of those two teeth.
Dr Matt Largent walked in and made sure to say hello to my daughter first– made eye contact with her and held her hand for a quick second, then shook hands with myself and my husband. He was really good with our little girl, and made sure that, since she was in the hot-​seat, she was the focus of the visit. He didn’t talk over her or use language she wouldn’t understand at all.
He talked to her and admired her shark tooth, and while he didn’t get too technical, he did explain what would happen in about one sentence. He knew, I figured out, that a mUch longer conversation would go on about the shot. He told her (and us) about this spray-​stuff that numbs the skin so you can’t feel the shot, and had me (and my husband) demo the spray and reassure her it worked, then he allowed her to feel it too. She wasn’t completely convinced at that point, but she was as close as she could possibly have been that he was not going to hurt her. At all.
He was able to quickly ascertain what needed to happen here, but did confirm with an x-​ray. After that the admin people came with consent forms and pricing info (which was entirely satisfactory– I don’t know much about pricing on this stuff, but I’ll tell you we GOT our money’s worth). Then a nurse came in and weighed her and get her all ready: O2, blood pressure, etc. A few minutes later, Dr Largent came back in to see how she was doing, and ultimately he HIMSELF did the poking. As promised it didn’t hurt at all, as much as she was probably trying to feel something, she couldn’t. I really thought that was great– that the one who did all the explaining about the shot was the same one to administer the shot, or rather the IV.
He gave her enough medicine to where she was smiling and not concerned at all about us leaving the room. And twenty minutes later he came back and said everything went fine and took me back to see her. She was loopy but fine, and we sat for several minutes just letting the meds wear off. She wasn’t swollen or in pain, just had some gauze in her mouth. They eventually took out the iv, and wheel-​chaired her out to the car.
Two days later she is doing just great. The office called us to see how she had faired– that was yesterday. I’m having to work hard to keep her from bouncing around too much. She only used pain meds that same day, other than one ibuprofen tablet the morning after. Practically no swelling, and she looks better without that shark tooth.
I hope you don’t need an oral surgeon. But if/​when you do, this place is your best bet in Austin.

This was by far the most pleasant visit i’ve ever had with anyone in any medical field!
Went in for a wisdom tooth extraction that had become infected. After getting the runaround from another dentist, I was fortunate enough to score a next day appointment, which shocked me, in a good way.
Upon getting there, the staff was easy to work with and efficient at getting their job done. There were no lulls in between patients, and no chattering among the staff– just business and smiles.
Once I went back, I could see why I was able to get a next day appointment– the dude works FAST! he chit chatted for a minute, while looking over my stuff, looked at my tooth, agreed that I needed it pulled and did it IMMEDIATELY! (the runaround from the other dentist was he said he couldn’t schedule me to get it pulled for TEN days, when it’s just a simple numb and go procedure.) He got an x-​ray, told me what i would need to do, numbed me up, came back and pulled away. I was in and out within 45 minutes!
I have a couple of clients that are oral surgeons that I know are very well respected (Dr. Widner, most notably, is a fantastic guy and is doing great things with invisalign procedures) but even with their relationships, I have to say I don’t think I’m going to see anyone else but these guys!

I had my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Horne last summer.
I am a total chicken and I bailed the first time I tried to get the procedure done. With medication and hypnosis, I was much more successful the second time. :) Dr. Horne and his staff were really kind and understanding. Most dentists get really frustrated or angry dealing with chickens, but their kind treatment gave me the confidence to walk in there the second time and get it all out of the way like I’d never had a problem.
It was, from start to finish, a better experience than i could have dreamed and well worth the money. It also helped me a lot with my phobia. If you have any doubts about this office, DON’T. It was so worth it, and now I am minus those pesky teeth!

I actually found my experience at Dr. Horne’s to be less than pleasant. The staff seemed discombobulated and flustered which didn’t help my anxiety about getting the procedure done. The most unsettling part of my visit was that the initial X-​Rays put out for my procedure were not mine. I only noticed it because the person’s X-​Rays that they put up had all four wisdom teeth and I only had two. They were about to take make four incisions until I spoke up about the X Rays! Besides that near catastrophe… There was the «i’ve been doing this for a million years and you’re just another person walking through the door» feeling when speaking with the doctor.
Overall, my procedure went as planned after they found the X-​rays belonging to me, but I would not return here if I had to have something else done.

Dr. Horne has treated my daughter twice and both experiences were excellent. He has the right mixture of confidence and compassion. My daughter didn’t feel a thing.
I highly recommend him.

Nobody wants to visit an oral surgeon, but if you do, then Horne and Associates is an excellent choice.
This is a class operation all around. Dr. Shedlofsky (an associate of Dr. Horne) was compassionate, efficient, and skilled at his craft. I had a slight complication several days later, and I was accomodated at the office quite swiftly to knock out the problem.
I was impressed with the professionalism of the office staff and with the upscale Texas /​limestone décor. One plus about the central location is that you can take your numb mouth across the street to Central Market for a fresh fruit smoothie.
