Jose Agustin Martinez, MD – Austin Retina Associates

I was referred to Dr. Martinez after I lost sight in my left eye overnight. My allergist, Robert Cook, sent me straight to him. He worked me right in his schedule that day, and continued to work with a team of doctors to help to diagnose a very rare autoimmune disease called Susac Syndrome. He listened to me throughout the journey, and was very attentive. Dr. Martinez referred me to two different specialist in Arlington and in Houston to make sure I was receiving the correct care, and that the medicines being used at the time were indeed was the proper procedure with this «medical mystery.» I can’t sign his praises loud enough. He has continued to be attentive, and communicates with two doctors when I see him now twice a year. I was impressed with how hard he was working behind the scenes with my medical «team» to research this disease. He is one of my heroes, and all of his staff is professional and courteous.

I went to a local ophthalmologist who performed cataract surgery and lasik follow up on my left eye. My vision began to diminish in that eye after some time elapsed. I made an appointment with my ophthalmologist and he
diagnosed my issue as central serious retinopathy. I went to several followups. After a couple of weeks, my vision became so poor that I could barely see at all in that eye.
I was referred to Austin Retina Associates by the ophthalmologist. I contacted my optometrist that I’ve been seeing for years and he suggested Dr. Jose Martinez.
I met with Dr. Jose Martinez in early June 2015. He immediately diagnosed my issue as a detached retina and scheduled surgery to take place two days later. He advised during the first meeting that the repair might take more than one surgery. I was nervous about the surgical procedure, but the experience went well. I followed the post op procedure by keeping my face down for five days. After I went back for the second follow up, Dr. Martinez determined a second surgery was necessary. The second surgery was successful. It’s now nine months later and my vision has been improving day by day. I have a Crystalens in that eye designed to allow my left to focus on near visions. I’m correcting the vision in the left eye with a contact lens to see far distances now. This has been working for me.
I am extremely grateful that Dr. Jose Martinez restored the vision in my left eye. It is truly very scary to lose your vision. He is professional, confident and helped to put me at ease during a stressful time. Dr. Martinez is very courteous. He treats me with respect at all times. His staff and office is well run and efficient. I appreciate that he gets to his office early and has early appointments so that I don’t have to miss work.
