How to begin. Service was great! The food on the other hand was very bland. I had what was supposed to be their main dish. Los Huaraches. The huaraches was over cooked and the meat tasted like it had been sitting for a while. My wife had yheir fajita enchiladas and were also lacking in flavor. Chips and Salsa were probably the best thing there. Good luck people. In other words needs improvement!

We went to Los Huaraches for breakfast on a Saturday. Starting at around 6:00 am you can find a setup outside the front door where you can buy pre-made tacos for a dollar. You can’t ask for a better deal! Unfortunately we arrived too late for tacos so we went into the dining room for a sit down breakfast. Décor – This place is a little hole in the wall. There is really no décor so to speak. Oh well, that doesn’t mean anything for the food. Service – There were only about four other tables when we arrived so service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. Food – My date and I both had the chorizo and potato breakfast plate. It came with a big serving of beans, potatoes cooked with chorizo and a separate serving of potatoes in chile. It was a bit odd having two different potato options on the same plate but they were both good. Overall we paid about $ 12 + tax/tip for both of us and left feeling full. I would recommend this little place to anyone wanting some filling breakfast. I haven’t gotten a chance to try their lunch options but I’m looking forward to it!

Stopped in for breakfast(Mexican omelet). They were very nice, and service was speedy, but the food was just meh. Portions were also kinda small. But the price was right.

Went for lunch on a weekend and it was pretty dead, but the food was good and service was phenomenal! They look like they have an awesome breakfast selection so I will definitely be back for some post-night shift grub and report back. From one visit, 3 ½ stars rounded to 4 for awesome service.

We love this place with only a few caveats. It’s clean, clean clean! The tortilla soup rocks! Also the chorizo papas(potatoes) for breakfast are amazing! Generally the service is very good. The waitresses are kind and thoughtful. The salsa is lovely and chips are usually very good. Strangely I’ve yet to try the huaraches for which the place is named The morning breakfast tacos are not rave worthy but a good value for $ 1. Phil likes the spicy chicken taco for a good wake up call. The best of the best is the Wednesday tamale lunch special which I adore for the gravy as well as the very nice,(moist not dry) tamales. Part of its appeal is that it’s not yet terribly crowded. One day it may be. Long tables in the back area make it a great place for a meeting or large groups We’ve actually held local meetings here that were quite productive. And the staff was kind and attentive even to such groups. There is a large TV in the back area which I could do without, but that’s not a big deal. The restaurant also sells local Mexican pastries which my pastry loving friends say are good. Beverages such as iced tea are a bit pricy and run the bill up Overall, the prices are higher than Chapala up the street or other local dives– a bit higher than the quality suggests. The lack of the final star has to do with the rather short-sighted, tight-fisted attitude of the owners that has revealed itself when on several occasions, we’ve been overcharged. I get that terrible tourist feeling that they see us as a rich mark.(yes we’re gringos but we live here too!). Sadly we feel we must check the bill despite the fact we’re repeat customers and have brought large groups in. Recently I ordered a tamale plate to go for my husband’s dinner and found only 2 tamales inside(instead of 3) and got the feeling it was another attempt at economy on their part – at our expense. Perhaps it was an honest mistake, but… that one even has to worry keeps the place from being first rate. I find folks who err on the side of generosity tend to do best in the food business. I keep hoping they’ll figure that out. Still well worth a try, just ask for a detailed bill.

Our women’s group came here for lunch after the Tejano Trail walk, twenty of us. We ordered a variety of dishes and Lucero brought them out efficiently as they were ready, without getting flustered or impatient. My chicken tortilla soup was delicious, and I look forward(now that I’ve read the other reviews) to coming back to trying some other dishes.

Meh. Had the #1 combo. Crispy taco was tasty, but after that, it was all too pedestrian. Cheese enchiladas had a thin sauce that didn’t have much flavor. Watery salsa too. Not bad, just not good for being so close to better choices.

This little gem in East Austin is clean, the food is good, and the service is fine. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that they close at 6 pm and are not open for dinner. Lots of native Hispanics eat there, which tells me that Los Huaraches is doing something right. They offer an incredibly reasonable and affordable breakfast lunch and early dinner. They offer mole and flan, which are among my favorites. The breakfast tacos are cheap. The food is the standard Tex-Mex fare and not unique or unusual. As for the ingredients, let’s just say that when you offer such affordable meals, the ingredients they use to make it are also«affordable» I wouldn’t go there if you are looking for a Michelin star chef, but they are not pretending to be either. It’s a good place to get a good meal at good prices. They recently expanded, which tells me that their business is growing, which, in turn, again tells me that they must be doing something right like serving good food. I would recommend this restaurant from among several others in the area, a few of which I am afraid to eat at again. I hope they start to offer traditional dinner hours in the near future so I can go there more often.

This is my favorite place for breakfast in Austin! $ 3.95 for the migas plate, and it’s amazing. Their potatoes are creamy and very peppery — unusual for most TexMex spots, certainly the BEST in town. Better than my DAD’S! The refried beans are flavorful(uh, oh: that means fat) and I scrape every bit up with my tortilla chips! My friend always gets Eggs Mexicano or Ranchero — and he loves them. You won’t go away hungry! The folks are very friendly, and want to help you leave happy! It’s a small little place that had about 8 tables, but a few weeks ago they took over the spot next door and it’s much bigger. Breakfast isn’t packed(on weekdays) but lunch brings them in! They sell to-go breakfast tacos out front for only $ 1. Not many still stick with that price, and they are very good. I brought a few dozen to a meeting last month and the gang raved! I called the night before so they knew I was buying 36 tacos… I’m sure that size an order would mean lots of other behind me would have waited if I hadn’t let them know. I suggest you do the same(anywhere, really). THEPARKINGLOTISSMALL!!!

In my attempt to support local businesses I decided to check this place out for breakfast. There was a friendly man out front selling ready made breakfast tacos so I figured it was worth a few minutes of my time in order to avoid the temptation of grabbing a sugary donut on my way to work. I was pleased with the variety as well as the price of their grab-n-go tacos… a mere buck a piece. The coffee was better than what I usually find served in the diner at work but unfortunately the tacos were somewhat greasy and tasteless which left me wondering if I was better off grabbing a donut after all. There is limited parking and backing out onto Cesar Chavez can be a hassle if traffic is heavy.

My Hispanic Christmas«adopted family» turned me on to huaraches then moved to Canada leaving me craving this delicious dish. Short story I googled«huaraches» and this place popped up with Unilocal reviews. This family run dive on the east side serves up «As Good As It Gets» Huaraches. My huaraches at Los Huaraches was almost as good as Izzie’s. The thin warm masa shell topped with pollo rojo, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and avocado was fantastic and the refried beans were 5 stars!

Los Huraches let me down and questioned my taco credibility with my friends. I’ve been driving by this place for the over 2.5 years I’ve lived here always telling myself, «you’ll check it out tomorrow.» Tomorrow was yesterday and when it came to it this place doesn’t stack up to the competition. The salsa was pretty watery and bland and my enchilada plate looked like a TV dinner, all soggy and plain. I wouldn’t trust this place for another lunch/dinner meal, but I did catch wind of an incredible breakfast deal for like $ 4 that interests me. You’d have to actively try and screw up pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Las Cazuelas is basically across the street and much better.

In our never ending quest to find real authentic Mexican food, Los Huaraches is an Oasis. Don’t let the outside looks for the place scare you. Once inside, the place is clean and OK. Of course, this is not the place to go if you are looking for ambiance. However, if you are looking for the kind of authentic, tasty Mexican food, this is the place. I am salivating as I write this review. The Huraches are amazing, the salsas are excellent, the tamales are great. family owned and operated. Great price. I’ll be there this weekend, for sure. p. s. They close at 4 pm

Breakfast taco for $ 1? Yes please! Breakfast taco with egg + 3 toppings for $ 1.50? Yes please! Nopales? YESPLEASE! The kind of queso that comes in a can, is a strange shade of orange, and only slightly better than the glop you get at the movie theatre? NOTHANKYOU!

If you’ve ever had huaraches, you know how good they are… and this is the only place in Austin where I’ve found them. I’ve only been here once, but the huaraches were great. I had the pollo rojo on it, and m’lady had the pollo verde on hers. It was awesome… and they were only about $ 5.50 a piece. Plus you get to hang out in East Austin. And the owner’s are really friendly. Try it out!
