We have been going to this location for over a year and tonight I can honestly say may be the last. We were sat at our table and then waited 20 minutes for a server to show up. No one came and touched our table nor stopped by to grab drink orders. We had to get up from our table and go to the bar to get some glasses of water for our table. The bartender(who was great!) showed pity on us and came to our table to take a round of drink orders. Fast forward to 60 minutes in, and the server shows up and we finally got to put our food order in. We also ordered another round of drinks at this point. 20 min later the food arrives, but still no drinks. The poor hostess was completely in the weeds the entire time as were the servers. The thing that bothered me the most in this whole experience was the manager. He was sweeping the floor in the corner with no awareness or care that the restaurant was melting down. He never help out the hostess seat folks or pull tables together, I didn’t see him help the servers/bartenders run any drinks from the bar to tables, nor did he refill any waters. Our table was there for 2 hours and the manager never stopped by to check in to see how things were. There are too many other really great tex-mex places in Austin that deserve our business more.

This is by far the worst Maudie’s in Austin. We have tried it several times because it is a convenient location but we have had poor experiences every time. Do not bother sitting outside. It took 90 minutes to get drinks and a to-go order. On a separate occasion it took over 2 hours to receive our food even though there were only two other tables on the patio. It look three requests and 45 minutes to get water for our table. The service can be rude and I’ve witnessed multiple tables walk out. If you’re craving Maudie’s, go to the Lake Austin location.

It’s Maudie’s! If you’ve been to one, well, you know how this works. The salsa on this visit had a slight sweet taste to it, so I wasn’t a huge fan, but I know that Maudie’s salsa varies with each visit so I’m sure it will be good next time. The chips were okay — they tasted like El Milagro chips. No real complaints there. I ordered a Mexican Martini and it was on the weak side. If I’m drinking a Mexican Martini, I definitely expect to be tipsy afterward and I felt nothing with this one. Not so good this time, but I expect that varies depending on who makes it. When at Maudie’s, I always order the same thing — Tamales el Jefe. This time I subbed borracho beans for refried beans because borracho beans are so much better. My tamales were as good as they always are and I left comfortably full. Our service was fine and I really like all the star lights at this location. Wish I could get some of those for my house because I think they are out of this world.(huehuehue.) It’s not fancy or anything special, but it’s Maudie’s and it’s decently consistent. I’ll keep coming back because sometimes you just need a little consistency, you know?

I need all of you reviewers to understand one thing. Going to a restaurant and being waited on hand and foot is a privilege. An amenity. If you’ve never done it yourself you should have the utmost respect. You deal with what you are dealt the best way you can. Most of you on here complain about the service. Be patient and understanding or leave but don’t put yourself in the situation to where you will be unhappy. If a business is putting you on a 30 minute to hour wait then understand you need to be patient. If you have the time to stick it out then do. If not, leave. Recently they have been dealt a shitty hand as far as quantity of staff. So they do what they can to make sure you are taken care of. It’s fast pace and high volume. Have a heart. The people who are still here care about their job and you. Know that.

This restaurant is excellent for drink specials(happy hour is BOMB), close proximity to campus, and a large selection of yummy, fresh Mexican food. Service is always good, and ambience is casual– perfect for meeting with groups. The food is not amazing Mexican/Tex mex quality, but still good for the price nonetheless. Maudie’s salads seem great in the menu descriptions, but their produce usually isn’t what you would like it to be. I asked for no cheese and dressing on the side with my salad but didn’t get either of these requests taken care of. Also, take caution with the salsa as it is very spicy. Other than that, Maudie’s is great for a casual Mexican food fix with some yummy cheap drinks to go with it.

Pretty much a disaster. Our regular place, Cheko’s had an issue with their credit card machine this weekend, so we tried Maudies Triangle Location under the flawed logic, «Well everyone kind of knows that Maudies ranges from mediocre to suck-ass-bad for lunch, but maybe their breakfast is okay». Well… not so much. It has been an eternity and we still have not gotten to tab out. Things to improve: –Don’t seat in sections where there’s no server. –Provide service recovery of some kind if 2 tacos and juevos rancheros take 45 minutes. — Maybe check on tables after they receive food(never got a side of beans, runner was told, it never came). –Send a manager around if service has crashed restaurant-wide(table next to us with a baby had to wait 20 minutes for a server, food was very late too). –Let people know. I work hard during the week, if I’d have known you were having a crash landing today, I’d have gone to Torchy’s and been on to other errands.

Took them 45 minutes from the time I placed my to go order for them to give me my salad. If you want to order takeout, order it 30 minutes before you leave so you’re not sitting there waiting forever. They gave me a bit of a discount, which was nice, but overall my first impression wasn’t great.

My mother, sister and I chose to grab lunch @ Maudie’s this past Saturday afternoon. It was rainy outside and we decided to go for some Tex-Mex. We were seated in a booth by the door immediately, and our server Aubry(I think that was her name) was great! Great attitude, never disappeared for too long and didn’t come by too often. Our drinks were delicious, as was the food. The only downside was that the women’s restroom was out of hand towels. My mom told the hostess, but would have been nice if we didn’t have to wipe our hands on our clothes. Otherwise a great experience!

Worst service I’ve ever gotten. I was there for literally 3 hours. By the time I got my enchiladas and 2 tacos for my kid, it was cold. Also has salsa fall next to me and splash all over me. They were apologizing the whole time and comped my $ 15, but it was painfully bad. Waiter had a big 25 person table. Not sure why they didn’t give my table to someone else after I didn’t order till 2 hours into it. I get that he was slammed. But all I needed was to order and pay. That’s all the attention I needed. About 30 seconds of his time.

Maudie’s is great, awesome service and a good happy hour. Decent food but seriously the service is amazing! I’ll be back if only to get waited on:)

Food is pretty similar to the other locations, but I agree w/other comments about the service. Went in last week with my kids around 7p. Restaurant was about 25% full but for some reason we waited for 30 minutes for a table. It looked to me like plenty of servers and plenty of open tables. Not sure what’s so hard for this location to get right about the service.

AMAZING food and atmosphere, but terrible service! Waited around 25 – 30 minutes for someone to even come and talk to us, then was never offered a refill or to check and see how our meal was… they’re lucky the food is great!

Go elsewhere! Terrible service. This was my first time going to Maudie’s, I had heard many great things. We had to wait to sit on the patio so we went to the bar while we waited. The bartender was less than helpful and never followed up with us, so we had to ask another. An hour had passed and our table was ready, so as we were going out the hostess didn’t hold the door which hit me spilling my drink(should have been the 2nd sign). Our waiter seemed incredibly rushed and said he would be with us, then about 5 minutes later brought us water and walked away. After nearly 30 minutes of no service, ATALL, another server came out saying he would take our orders(after another table complained). Our food came fast and was good, however not a single person ever followed up with us, or refilled drinks. The original waiter eventually came with the checks, but never apologized for anything. He simply could have said I’m sorry I’ll be with you shortly or found another server to help as they were amply staffed with many just standing around. As I said the food was good, but you can find just as good elsewhere with much better service!

My first impression of Maudie’s: it’s aite. I did like that their menu is well organized and there are a decent number of veg-friendly options. I am also always happy when there are complimentary chips & salsa. The salsa had a decent kick to it, too. I had the Potato Rajas Taco Plate, which consisted of two potato tacos and a side of black beans. I thought the tacos were bland and wouldn’t order them again. Maybe it was the double corn tortillas that overtook the flavor, or maybe it would’ve tasted better if I was hungrier at the time. On the other hand, I had a nibble of the bf’s Spinach & Mushroom Quesadilla, and that was much more promising. It gave me hope that Maudie’s has more to offer and was enough to convince me to give it another chance in the near future. Last thing I will note: I took what I thought was a mint on my way out. It looked like one of those peppermint candies, but green. I was definitely expecting something minty or even fruity. But it tasted weird… not sure how to describe it but the bf and I both had the same reaction. Would not take again unless they switch it out for something else.

I witnessed this in person tonight, and still don’t believe this all happened… I came in for a simple to-go order, 30 minutes later finally left with my food(not withstanding correcting my order first), but that’s not the worst part, even though that’s beyond ridiculous to have to wait that long for one meal! While I was waiting, seeing how I had so much time to wait, I noticed several things that disturbed me. First, I noticed someone whom I presume was an ‘off-duty’ employee. When I came in he was sitting at the bar having a beer. Over the course of this time window, he helped himself to a refill of beer behind the bar, prepared a shot for himself, and then went to the kitchen prep line to pack his own to-go order before leaving the restaurant. Not once did anyone seem to take issue with any of his behaviors. Secondly, one of the bartenders decided he was sweating too much, so he decided to put on a bandana, simple enough right? The problem is where he decided to ‘prep’ his bandana before putting it on his head. He used the ‘clean’ counter area where he had been(before this and after) placing the clean glassware fresh out of the dishwasher top down. Congratulations you essentially just put your head bandana across the tops of all of your clean glassware… exactly where people’s mouths are soon to be! I picked Maudie’s for dinner tonight over Galaxy Café, and man did I choose wrong! It will be quite a while before I make that mistake again!

I’m shocked to see that this place has such poor reviews on Unilocal.I’ve been there several times, and every time has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. Firstly, the most important thing: the food is INCREDIBLE. Sooooo good. If you’re looking for Mexican food, there is no contest. Go to Maudie’s. Second, service, which I see is the main complaint people have. I have yet to have anything but an overwhelmingly positive experience with Maudie’s service. In fact, only a few days ago I went in and put in a to go order. While I was waiting for it, I was asked if I wanted anything to drink, although they couldn’t add it into my bill without making a second transaction because I had already paid. So they just gave my drink to me for free. I asked for a Dr. Pepper, and after I received my order, they offered to refill it for me. That’s 2 completely free Dr. Pepper’s. Maudie’s rocks.

Dang, I’m surprised the rating is kinda low for this place! My friends and I came here for their Monday happy hour specials and had a great time sitting on the patio. I got 2 house margs on the rocks for $ 3.50 each which were pretty good! Not too strong but they def didn’t skimp on the alcohol either. Our waiter was attentive, and I liked that he was honest about not liking a menu item when my friend asked for his opinion. I ordered the cup of tortilla soup which came with an automatic side of rice(learned this from Unilocal). It was yummy! It was the brothy kind of soup, not the chili kind, which I prefer. A little on the salty side, but tasty overall. I knew I’d fill up on chips which is why I just got a soup(btw, I’m a fan of their salsa!). This is your standard Tex Mex restaurant. I dig it.

First, I want to preface by saying that my husband and I love Maudie’s. If it weren’t for our love of the chain(and their reasonable prices), I probably would give this location a 2. You would think that if you sit down at the bar the service would be quick and painless, but it’s far from that at this location. My husband and I visit this location on average 3 – 4 times a month(because it’s now the closet to our home) and we are usually ignored when we sit at the bar. I would say on average it takes 10 minutes before we get waters and chips/salsa. We have been seated in the general seating — inside and out — but the service doesn’t get any better. This isn’t just one bad experience. This is pretty much a normal occurrence each time we go. And as I mentioned, we only continue to go because we really love the food there. Who doesn’t love cheese enchiladas topped with cheese? And better yet, for $ 8.50? It’s worth the risk coming here. Just be aware that your food may or may not come out correctly. And you might not want to come if you’re in a hurry.

Ever wonder what a sorority lunch might sound like with dozens of screaming college freshman girls? Have lunch here and get the full experience. All joking aside I want to say that Maudie’s has mastered customer service, food, and margarita’s. Mandi, our waitress today, was friendly and gave us the perfect amount of attention. We ordered nachos and quesadillas with drinks and it was served hot, cold(the drinks of course), and quickly. The hostess was/is amazing and even shared a laugh with us about a very, very uptight guest that clearly struggles with life and being a part of society. Love this place and can not wait to visit again.

So, one step forward and two steps back on the latest visit. On the plus side, the menu has been improving over the last year, and the slightly higher prices on some items reflect significantly better food: the grilled fish tacos, for example, or the white queso bean dip are now pretty darn good. Table service was friendly and the kitchen ran our food while our server dealt with a big party. All good. So why two stars? Ask the hostess(40-something, short red hair) if you can find her. We came in at 9:35 on a Tuesday. She does not greet us, but instead goes straight into, «Just so you know, we’re closing at 10:00. I mean, that’s 25 minutes, so you’ll probably be okay.» I am serious. This is actually what she said to us. She then disappeared for the rest of the shift while three more confused guests arriving at the door had to track down a server to be seated or find their carryout orders. So, dear Maudie’s hostess(and management, who probably know better). Here’s the deal: I’ve worked in plenty of restaurants. If you don’t want to seat people past 9:30, you have a few options. You can: a) close your restaurant at 9:30; or b) post conspicuously on your web page, door, and menu that last seating is at 9:30 and that the kitchen closes at 10(which is really just another way of doing option«a»); or c) go into another f*cking business that does not jeopardize the precious evening social time of your rude, passive-aggressive, indifferent hostess. Or, dear hostess, if you want to get a two-top in and out at the end of the night, you might just get their drinks and chips and send a server over quickly, realizing that most parties of two at a Mexican restaurant are done in 25 – 30 minutes anyway, and keep your commentary on our perfectly reasonable arrival time to yourself. Instead, you insulted and hurried us for absolutely no reason, given that the 14-top of college girls next to us were still cashing out and taking group photos when we left. Nice job.
