Excellant food and service! Ive had the pleasure of eating here often and have always been happy. Try their Singaporean beef!

Decent little place. I came in on a Tuesday afternoon and had a great bowl of vegan phở(lightly fried tofu, broccoli, mushrooms, snow peas, bok choy). Prices are reasonable — sushi looked interesting but I wasn’t in the mood. Beyond the food, I just really enjoyed the excellent service, especially from the lady who runs this place. She was so nice and friendly. Would definitely be back next time I’m looking for a quick bowl of soup/sushi for lunch in the area.

I regret punishing my stomach with one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever endured. My girlfriend and I came here on a Thursday evening. Our first indication that we should have turned around and left was that they have a huge banner above the entrance that says«Under New Management — 25% off!». A «Going Out Of Business» sale, perhaps? So we walk in, the place is almost empty, and there is no host or waiter to be seen. Just an old man behind the sushi bar. We take a seat at a booth and wait for something to happen. We soak in the ambiance of unintelligible screaming music from the kitchen marinated over a rerun of Pawn Stars on the TV behind the bar. This really set up the mood for some great food. After about 15 minutes a blue-haired girl emerges from the kitchen and finally comes over to us with some menus. We peruse the options until deciding on a spicy tuna roll, two shrimp spring rolls, a pad thai combo, and a traditional Vietnamese salad dish with lemongrass chicken. The waitress came back twice while she was putting the items into the computer to verify our order. I’m glad she cared enough to try to get it right, but I guess her memory recall is shorter than the 20 seconds it took to walk from the table to the computer. The spring rolls were the only passable item we ordered. The sushi roll tasted weird and was loosely packed. The pad thai was missing some items that were stated on the menu(bean sprouts, eggs), but it was not as bad as the dish my girlfriend ordered. The dish stated it came with«Spring mix, broccoli, onion, basil, tomato, picked carrots, and snap peas». The dish she ordered, which came out of the kitchen after a surprisingly quick amount of time, was some undercooked chicken over chopped iceberg lettuce surrounded by raw carrots and some sad tomatoes. Yikes! Unfortunately we left our phones at home so I couldn’t take a photo, I wish I could. This was a pathetic excuse for a dish even an amateur at home could whip up. My girlfriend sent it back and didn’t even order a replacement. After my she said«I don’t even want anything else, sorry.» the waitress mindlessly asked«Okay, do you want to order anything else?» So she picked a little off my plate of disappointing pad thai and we reluctantly pay for our meal. The waitress apologized and asked what was wrong with the dish and I showed her the menu and told her none of those items came with the dish. She blamed the kitchen and apologized again. I felt bad for her, but it’s not an excuse. I immediately felt sick after we left. My body was like, «Bruh…what did you just put in me? Get this shit OUT of me or you will regret this tomorrow!» Long story short, whoever was working in the kitchen that night needs to be fired yesterday and never work in food service again. Apparently the other locations, particularly the one on Anderson Lane, are supposed to be better per the Unilocal reviews. But I’m not chancing it, it was that bad. I love Vietnamese food, I eat it all the time. This place is embarassing to even crappy Vietnamese places. I can’t imagine we’re the only people to ever send back food and be very disappointed with our experience, so they have to know. It’s so bad they had to knock off 25% just to get people through the door. Do yourself a favor and do not EVER even CONSIDER going here. EVER!

very confused. I’ve been going to eat here for a couple months now and it’s always been fantastic. I went to eat here last night and everything was different. new staff inside. new menu. the way the sushi was prepared wasn’t the same. the spring rolls weren’t the same. fried rice is no longer anything special… AND I got food poisoning. so thanks for the awesome couple of months we had but I will never be visiting phở thaison again.

Tried a pickup order there and got a beef curry entrée and 3 spicy tuna hand rolls which were way bigger than expected and were rather filling. After the tuna hand rolls I didn’t need much more at all. The beef curry dish did smell pretty great and tasted good but the meat itself was kinda tough and I’ve seen higher quality meat used at other phở places. By the way, this place is not expensive at all. I would come back here again to eat so this is more like a 3.5 star rating from me. Tip — Don’t order too much they give you a lot!

It was a chilly night, perfect for phở. We phoned in our order to beat any crowds, however when we arrived there was only one person in the restaurant and one single to-go order on the counter. The hostess/server gal still had us wait until she could confirm it was our order and then was about to send us on our merry way without any broth for our phở. She was confused when we asked her for some and said she didn’t know if broth came with it. When trying to leave we have to wait for some nefarious characters to move from behind the car before we could pull out. I would NOT feel safe entering the restaurant if I had been there alone. Shady area. Final verdict: The phở was okay-ish and the noodle dish was garbage. Sorry folks, we won’t be back.

This place doesn’t look like much. It’s in the The Oltorf Market. The steak and meatbal phở is really good. They have very fast internet and there is always something good on tv. Really like the booths.

I’m from Dallas and decided to stop in for lunch on my way home from San Antonio. I had the beef phở and it was delish! I have tried phở at at least 6 – 7 different places and this was one of the best. Portion is huge and first time in a while I wasn’t able to finish it-tons of meat and not just broth. If I lived in Austin this would definitely be my go to phở spot. As for the venue, it was open, clean and there were quite a few other patrons. The single server was very attentive and fast. Only reason for not 5-stars, my can of diet Coke was out of date, but that really wasn’t too big of a deal.

I’d love to give a better review, because my lemongrass tofu bahn mi was soooo delicious! But sadly, my boyfriend couldn’t take more than a few bites of his chicken fried rice. Way too oily. It was inedible. And unfortunately the tofu spring rolls were bland. Service was friendly and genuine. I will have to try the phở, and I’ll be back for the bahn mi, but stay away from that rice!

This place is by far my favorite Phở restaurant in Austin. Nestled in an area which may not be considered the best place to be in Austin. You have to travel just slightly off the tourist track to enjoy this diamond in the rough. Texas size portions, low sushi prices that fetch wedding catered quality sushi presentation. The Phở can’t be matched this side of the Pacific if you ask me. This place is worth the travel, regulars are in and out all day as you’ll see as soon as you step in the door. Hurry up and enjoy this quaint environment before big Austin rolls on over this part of town, and this restaurant gets discovered by the masses.

I have been coming to this location since I moved to Austin. In fact, it was my first experience of Vietnamese food. I used to think it was amazing. The previous owners had children working at this place and it made it seem like a mom n pop Vietnamese restaurant. I literally watched their kids grow up. Ever since it changed owners, the place just isn’t the same. The food doesn’t taste as fresh as it used to. I still come here from time to time but there are plenty of other Vietnamese restaurants around Austin(even around the corner) that is better than this one.

Found this place randomly driving around looking for lunch spots and have been back several times. Their bahn mi is really good, you will need a couple of egg rolls and some dumplings(mmm) to go with it. Have tried the curry and the grilled chicken, both flavorful. The inside is not fancy and the service is ok but a solid choice overall.

My boyfriend and I first went to this place about a month ago after trying to find a place to have dinner. Now, we frequent this place because it’s so close and we haven’t had a bad experience with the food. My boyfriend always orders a Rock N Roll and some kind of tempura roll with spicy mayo and never has any complaints and says it’s some of the best sushi he’s had. I usually steal a piece or two. The first time, I ordered the Beef with Broccoli with steamed rice and it is some of the best I’ve had. The flavor was just right and doesn’t take like typical takeout quality. Recently I’ve been ordering the BBQ pork banh mi. I love these sandwiches. The flavor of the meat is great, and the bread is more of a French bread consistency. Delicious. I’ve ordered this one sandwich about 3 times, and will continue to. As far as drinks, the first time I went there I ordered one of their mango smoothies with tapioca and it was just a little too sweet for my taste, but it’s not enough to take off a star. However, I love their Thai Tea with Pearls. I order it every time. The same guy is always working when we go and always takes care of us even though most of the time he’s sitting at a desk where the register is. It’s usually slow in there and there are never more than 3 or 4 tables of people when we go and he always takes care of us in a timely manner. I recommend this place even though it doesn’t have a very pretty exterior or interior, don’t let that turn you off from going and giving it a try! :)

Not nearly as good as the Anderson Ln location, hugely disappointed. The chefs at these two restaurants should talk more. The Phở Thaison on Anderson Lane is one of my favorite places for phở and bun and I highly recommend it but this location isn’t worth it(at least based on the bowl of Phở I had), especially when you can drive down the street to 888.

Good Selection of Asian Cuisine from Phở to Sushi. The Phở portions are massive. The egg rolls were pretty good but not memorable. I had the Vietnamese Beef and Broccoli and it was really good. The sauce they used went really well with the broccoli and the white rice. Good sushi and beer specials at happy hour from 4 – 7. This place beats Pan 888 across the street.

It feels like only yesterday that this used to be Phở Oanh. I’m not sure what happened; RIP all the same. Now it’s another branch of the Phở Thaison chain, but the food is still good and worth its place in the where-will-I-have-Asian-food-this-time rotation between Hai Ky and 888 Pan Asian on this stretch of East Oltorf. This new Phở Thaison continues the proud yet baffling tradition of not listing its secret weapon on the website — the only place you’ll find their excellent banh mi sandwiches is on the paper menus on tables in the restaurant. At $ 4.50 to $ 5.50 each, they are a great value given the crusty bread, well-prepared meat, and fresh vegetables. I like to get the juicy lemongrass beef and add a fried egg for an extra dollar, for an unhealthy but totally satisfying banh mi experience that’s about as good as it gets in South Austin. They don’t have my favorite phở in the whole world, but it’s still serviceable. I like the steak and brisket, and they also have tendon, tripe, and so forth. I just like their banh mi so much it kind of crowds out the rest of their menu, so I’ve never had their sushi or bun meals. I’m glad the spirit of great banh mi lives on here.
