Post script: In response to the owner’s response: the owner is correct in that I could have just called and asked that they come back over and clean. However, I would have felt awkward doing so, which is admittedly my problem, not the owner’s or the business’s. My comment about cleaning products without any potentially harmful chemicals was referring to the only other cleaner I’ve ever had; I was in no way indicating that Pristine Clean uses harmful chemicals. Looking back at the sentence I see that it could be taken either way due to the sentence structure, but it was not meant to indicate that I was under any impression that Pristine Clean uses harmful chemicals. I trust the business’s claim that it does not. I would disagree with the owner that my review was«sniping.» I was simply expressing my opinion and I was pretty clear that my views should be taken with a grain of salt, since I’m not familiar with industry standards. My review was written in good faith and although I was annoyed at what I personally thought was a job that fell short of what I thought I had been promised, I felt that I adequately warned other readers that they should not take my review as the final word. My intention was to give an account of my experience for other readers; it was neither to bad-mouth the business nor to vent my frustration from the safety of internet anonymity(though it is true that I post under a pseudonym, for a number of reasons). Unilocal is ideally precisely that: a place to put your opinion. At the end of the day the owner and I disagree about this: I think I didn’t get what I paid for, and he appears to think that I did(or at least that is what his tone would suggest). For anyone reading this, I stress that this does NOT necessarily mean that he didn’t provide a good service at a price that is reasonable by current market rates, that is, perhaps I got a good deal or even a great deal(without even realizing it) and it is simply that I am not willing to pay standard market rates. But I simply don’t know, as I’ve only had one other cleaner before(who did a much better job in my opinion, but as I’ve said repeatedly, I’m not the best judge as to what’s standard with regard to quality of cleaning or rates). I was at pains in the initial review to emphasize that I may simply have unrealistic expectations of what $ 120 worth of cleaning gets. In no way did I mean to dismiss the work that was done or the business in general. My original review never suggested that other potential customers not go with Pristine Clean, and I don’t suggest that now. I would suggest, however, that if you do go with Pristine Clean you ask for more clarification than I did as to what the service entails(though as the owner points out, often times things take longer than anticipated, which is perfectly understandable). If you have cleaners regularly such a conversation may not be necessary. In any case, eight or so other reviewers have posted positive reviews, so anyone reading this should probably read those, too.
