We received a menu on our door. We decided to give Rice a try. What we received was food poisoning. When we called 2 days later the person on the phone claimed to be «Allen» the owner and apologized and advised we would receive a refund. When we called back after no refund in two weeks the new person claimed to be Allen and claimed no knowledge and that a DR’s note is required to receive a refund from Rice. All that from below average tasting food delivered with no napkins and no utensils. Avoid Rice, there are dozens of better options for Asian food with better service.

My favorite takeout Chinese food! The delivery service is good and they have the best Sesame Tofu I’ve ever tasted. They offer more selection of vegetarian items here than any other takeout Chinese such as brown rice and avocado spring rolls. The egg drop soup is my favorite! I’ve yet to have them mess up or forget something on my order and I’ve ordered delivery here 6 times so far. .with the menu selection and service I never order takeout from anywhere else.

First of all, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and they put the sauce on the side. I called and told them I didn’t order it this way and they said«that’s how it comes.» What? So I poured the sauce over the chicken and it’s just not the same. at all. We also ordered the sesame beef and it was so chewy and just gross. My brown rice had chunks of burnt hard rice in it. No thanks. I’m really not picky about my food & it’s really easy to please me, so the fact that I’m this disappointed in the food here says A LOT!

Very, very bad service. Order placed @ 5:57pm. @ 6:23pm I rec’d a call back telling me that my food was ready but their credit card machine would not accept my card & I would have to pay in cash. The lady stated she would go ahead & send driver. Ok, fine. I live @ congress & wm cannon. They are located at westgate & wm cannon. Not very far. I proceed to walk across the street to retrieve cash — obviously no problem with my card. @ 6:45pm no food yet; I call to find out what’s up. I am told the driver is out, but will be there shortly. @ 7:00pm still no food; I call again. I am told to wait & that I would receive a call back, she needed to call her driver. @ 7:15pm no call back so I call again. I am told that the driver is 15 minutes away. @ 7:30-ish still no food; I call again and demand my food be comped. With some hesitation the lady on the phone agreed to comp my dinner. And stated he is 3 minutes away. @ 7:42 food arrives… but the driver refuses to give me the food unless I pay 50%. I told him that the lady on the phone said it was comped. He said no, she is new and doesn’t know you pay 50%. I call again. the lady said that he has been arguing with her too & that she would call her boss. Meanwhile, delivery dude decides to leave. I call back again. The lady says she will send new dinner with different driver, shouldn’t be long. Then the delivery driver comes back and says he called the restaurant & he was told that we were right but I still need to pay $ 3& some change(I’m guessing the tax). I said no because the lady on the phone said she was sending new food with new driver. He said nothing & walked off again. Never received any food. Very, very bad service.

It is a consistently average Chinese food place, with friendly service and consistently delicious food. While it’s not a place id go on a date, it’s perfect for a night in. I always get the sesame tofu, egg drop soup, and cheese wontons, and I’m never disappointed. Everything is packaged nicely.

All the food was very blah. Nothing stood out, nothing exceptional. — Wanton soup was very boring and lacking in flavor… This should be the only sign you need. To their benefit, the delivery was quick, within 30 minutes but I suppose that should occur when you charge so much for a delivery fee. I’m a one time learner… Will not be ordering again.

So so bad, times three. They do not deserve one star. My Step-Mom picked up herself, my Dad and I some food from this place and we all had complaints! My Step-Moms beef & broccoli was not cooked properly and was pretty pink in the middle. My Dads chicken veggie lo mein was DISGUSTING, it looked bad and tasted like glue! GLUE! The chicken in my fried rice was terrible tasting and my egg drop soup had almost no taste. The fried rice itself wasn’t bad but I stopped eating for fear of bad prep, my Step-Mom also said the egg roll wasn’t bad. But here is the really bad part… the SERVICE. My Dad was very upset and called the store, not even to ask for a refund, just to let them know their food was undercooked and tasted very bad. And my Dad is not picky, he will eat anything… so when he can’t eat the food SOMETHINGISWRONG. My StepMom eventually told my Dad to ask for a refund(total with tip was $ 32) and they said the best they could do was 20% so about $ 5-$ 6. Really? That’s not even an offer worth giving, let alone the trip back there to collect it! Very very bad service.

Wish I would have read the reviews before actually ordering… Mind you i ordered pretty late but the food I got wasn’t even what I ordered and had to wait for the delivery guy to exchange it which took another 30 mins… sigh. I won’t be ordering again… Why place fliers out for mediocre service and a rude phone order taker… ? You guys need to revamp your ENTIRE restaurant and service… there’s way too much competition in Austin… you won’t last if this keeps up.

Based on how bad the food was on our most recent delivery experiences, 3 – 4 before we wised up, we are unlikely to ever order form this place again. Such a shame they started out doing so well. Lately the orders often had items missing, eggrolls were saturated in grease, tasted horrible. Can’t recommend this place any longer.

Dicks! I’ve been ordering from this place only to recently discover that they’ve screwed me out of $ 60 by charging a $ 5 delivery fee WITHOUTSAYINGTHTTHEYCHARGE A FEE, Should I have noticed? Yes. I pointed this out to a guy on the phone and he admitted that they should say they charge a fee but they don’t and that they are busy and forget to say that they charge the fee. I said something like«Well guess what, you need to take that off of my bill. I paid your driver a 20% tip and you still charged me an extra $ 5 on an order that was over $ 30. That doesn’t sound fair does it?» He pointed out that I had ordered from them 12 times. What a great loyalty program. Order more often and still get charged $ 5 for every delivery regardless of how much money you’ve spent. Fuck You Rice.

After looking around for a place that had average to excellent reviews I finally settled on this place and let me tell you they did not disappoint. I travel a great deal for work so I needed a place that delivered they had a 55 minute delivery wait with a $ 3.00 charge, but actually that is just an estimated time they showed up within 30 minutes and the food was nice and hot. The chicken fried rice was amazing and the cheese wontons did not disappoint they were flavorful, crunchy and non oily. My only issue was the general tso shrimp it had entirely to much breading and that is what made me give them 4 out of 5 but I would call them again.

I’ve been here twice and have been disappointed twice. While the staff is very friendly and helpful, the food lacks in quality. The Tofu, and the seaweed and tofu soup was good. Most of the other stuff is OK, and the vegetables were just of poor quality and not enough put into the food. They seem to be trying to cut costs to make up for what seems to be the issue of not having enough customers. I sometimes wonder if most of the meals aren’t frozen in ready-to-serve dishes.

I was wondering if I would find a new favorite Chinese takeout place after I moved to Austin from Virginia. Yes, I agree that almost all Chinese places are comparable, one in the same, etc. However… I came home one day to one of Rice’s menus hanging from my doorknob. Cool, I’ll save that for a lazy night in. Tonight was one of those nights. We called them up and ordered our food and my boyfriend commented on the efficiency of it all — he could understand the person on the other end. Hooray! Our food arrived about 45 minutes later(it’s a Friday night, kind of expected them to be busy) in a brown paper bag, which contained two sealed plastic bags, which contained plastic takeout containers, which contained all of the glorious food! I ordered the coconut curry chicken and small combo sides(spring roll and wonton soup) and boyfriend ordered the cashew chicken and a spring roll + hot and sour soup. We did not only receive those things, though. Crispy wontons for the soup, a plethora of sauces, a small cup of fruit and the ever-present fortune cookies. We didn’t even crack open the second container of rice. SOMUCHFOOD. Couldn’t finish. Totally impressed.

Just tried this right now. Big no no! I dont understand why we just can have some good chinese food around here? I ordered the orange chicken and crab rangoons. I paid $ 15 bucks for chunks of batter with no chicken in them, and the crab rangoons tasted like cardboard with old crab taste. Sorry, but I wont write a bad review unless I feel I have to.

Ordered delivery tonight. The bad: — Difficult to communicate my order to the person on the phone. Had to repeat myself several times for each and every item. — $ 5.95 delivery charge(6 miles one way, but they just put a door hanger on my door last weekend so I’m in their area). Food prices are reasonable, but this is high for a delivery charge. — Was quoted 60 minutes for delivery time. — I called back 15 minutes later to cancel based on the delivery time and charge, but was told the order had left. Was told order might still be 60 minutes total. Very aggravating phone call. The good: — Order arrived 30 minutes from when I placed it. — Food containers are very nice. No styrofoam, well sealed, wrapped in plastic bag, and inside a paper grocery bag. — Food was fine. Pei Wei is better. Roughly on par with Panda Express. Food: — Lemon chicken for the kids was exactly what you’d expect. Fried, lemon sauce on the side. — Hot and Sour soup had no tofu, but taste was within acceptable for delivery. A little heavy on vinegar, but fine. — General Tso’s Tofu was decent. Soft tofu, lightly fried. — Egg roll a little oily but tasty. I like the veggies a little crisp inside. — Cheese puffs. Standard delivery chines quality taste. Had I received the good without the bad, I’d rate 4 stars.

I’m shocked that there are no reviews of this place — it’s been here at least one year. They distributed a large number of fliers recently, so maybe more people will be aware of it… I took a group of guys from work, including two guys from Singapore and one from Taiwan… We started with the dumplings. They used a thin skin on them — as a result the fried dumplings had a nice crunchy exterior. They were fried perfectly and not greasy. Thumbs up from my friend from Taiwan. And at 10 for $ 6 — it’s a great deal. We split 3 entrees — Kung Pao Chicken, Moo Shu Chicken, and Singapore Fried Noodle. Lots of sauce and enough spice on the KPC — it was good enough. The Moo Shu chicken was something different — usually I have Pork or Duck. The wrappers were fine and they don’t skimp on the Hoisin sauce. The chicken mixture was tasty and not too ‘soupy’(always a problem for Moo Shu meals) and I would have liked some fresh, long cut scallions to put on top for crunch. But we all enjoyed it. The Singapore Fried Noodle was my choice. As my friend from Singapore said — they don’t offer this in Singapore. It was thin noodles, stir-fried with some chicken, shrimp and a little egg, with a curry type sauce. The plate was huge and would have easily fed three people without the additional plates. In fact, all the plates had an abundance of food. The restaurant doesn’t seat a lot of people — maybe 30 max… and when the 6 of us walked in the other two big table were already full so we split 3 and 3. Service was adequate — but we didn’t get any refills on our drinks. Thankfully the glasses were large. I don’t know that I would want to bring a large group here, but for a quick family meal or take-out food — it was pretty good. And it must be good since my Asian friends want to go back…

So Rooster was a tad confused on new name of the place. After all, it still says NG House on the bricks. Some new branding on the menu with some font style changes didn’t help either. The website on the menu has some issues as well. Aren’t the Unilocal Elite on top of this? So much for marketing which includes two booths on the left side of the restaurant which is covered with the take out menus. Regardless, the food warranted another visit today. Little Rooster and I strolled in today for another Honey Chicken fix. Every part of the meal was tasty and the baby even liked his bites of chicken which is rare. Overall another good visit Here are some of my issues in keeping at a three star ish experience. Our normal table was dirty and remained that way through our visit. Considering the number of tables; they really should have cleaned it up for us. Another diner sat at another dirty table and had to wait for it to be cleaned. Rice needs to improve the image of the dining room for sure. You’ve got half of an old mall menu that still sitting up above the counter and Mexican fiesta decorated fans out over the dining room. I worry that other food purveyors within walking distance(i counted 5 within 200 yards) might just finish them off. The highlight for me is the food is tasty and they work extra hard to make little Rooster happy and welcome

If you were wondering as to the fate of the former Ng House, it’s gone(despite the outward-facing moniker to the contrary). In its place is Rice Chinese Restaurant, and while some things have changed(the entrée photos have been removed and yet un-replaced, the menu’s rebranded, much of what I knew here before remains. I dropped in here for lunch and decided upon the sesame chicken: it arrived quickly(almost as if it were alive, which it wasn’t), and provided a solid counter to the egg drop soup I had as an appetizer. They’re clearly not reinventing the wheel here, and I don’t know what the backstory is on the other place closing and this one arising, like some sort of fortune cookie phoenix, in its place. I certainly wouldn’t call it spectacular, but the people are very very nice and they’re clearly making an effort. And I’m sure as I get hungry I’ll be back again.
