Been here a few times with friends and I like how it’s close to UT. I get the salmon and unagi nigiri. My favorite is their agedashi tofu and Mochi ice cream and lychee ice cream. Shrimp tempura isn’t bad either. The tuna poke and seaweed salad are also good appetizers.

I was hanging out with a group of friends and the group decided to come here. I didn’t know this place before today and I knew all-you-can-eat sushi would be a bad idea, but I didn’t realized it could be this bad. We waited an hour for a table. After we placed our order, we were told that they ran out of rice(?!) and there would be another 30-minute wait. The food? I don’t even know where to start. I didn’t expect to see high quality fish or anything like that at a all-you-can-eat buffet, but… The fish on the sushi was either tasteless, or I could only taste the sauce, which wasn’t great either. The rice had a strange sweet flavor and it had no taste of vinegar – it did not taste like sushi rice at all. But for me the worst part was that in the middle of the meal my stomach began to feel sick. 30 bucks isn’t exactly cheap. It’s more than enough to buy you, say, a nice chirashi bowl in Austin. You don’t need to spend it on 2 hours of misery.

Come hungry! This little spot is cute and personal! The tables are a little close so you’ll probably end up making a friend or two if your in a small party. So here’s the deal, all you can eat sushi BUT if you leave any left-over they charge you for it! Makes sense, as the waitress put it, «all you can eat sushi not all you can waste sushi» The rolls were huge! I was definitely surprised. I did notice that majority of the rolls on the menu feature the same type of fish(ie, lots of tuna) If you are starving and craving all the sushi in your face, this is the place to go!

Went to this place on a Monday night. The place was not packed, yet the waiter told us that there was a 30 min back order on Sushi. When I asked if we could place an order, the waiter said we couldn’t, even though he was writing down our drink and appetizer order. This was very perplexing. A new waitress came up and took our order, even though there was a back log within the sushi kitchen(with 4 chefs and not a packed house). We order only to find out that they ran out of sushi rice. The waitress gave us a sake on the house, which was very nice of them. However, when the sushi came out, the rice was mushy and tasted too much like vinegar. Overall, this was a pretty unpleasant experience. Also, the all you can eat is pretty much a rip off. It’s 30 dollars a head and if you can’t finish all of your sushi, you have to pay for the leftovers. I don’t think you can even take those leftovers home…

Horrible! They say«all you can eat» but were out of everything! We went at 5:30pm and they were already out of tofu, 3 mochi flavors, and RICE! We had to wait 30 min for them to make new rice and then it was disgusting(very sweet??). When we complained about it, they said they weren’t going to do anything about it. Also, eel sauce is disgusting and bitter, not like any other eel sauce I’ve ever had. After all this, they wouldn’t give us a discount. Absolutely terrible

I went to the bathroom, saw the sushi chef come in, take a piss and didn’t wash his hands… Yeah…with raw fish? Me thinks not.

Service: It was great. For being busy, they were rather well composed and did their best assisting their tables. Props to service staff! Food: «All you can eat sushi» for Lunch — does NOT include nigiri pieces, but DOES include appetizers and desserts. Huge plus! They do charge though for left over sushi. The catch 22 is when you also wind up not liking a roll. So you’re kind of forced to eat your sushi that you don’t like for the sake of the your bill. This happened for our dragon roll(which I personally wouldn’t recommend). The dragon roll was drowning in eel sauce! And the eel sauce tasted terrible too, this eel sauce tasted like chocolate syrup! If recommend the rainbow roll and the shrimp rangoon. Both were pretty good. I also liked the two TVs. Kept the atmosphere lively!

Bring your sushi-lovin’ friends here. Now. +It truly is an all-you-can-order/eat nigiri situation with no tricks or hidden restrictions. Just make sure you order the nigiri(ex: 50 pieces, 100 pieces,…depending on group size) right when you sit down because it takes awhile. +From the appetizer menu, my favorite fish items are Screaming-O, White-O, and Tuna Poke. Everything else is still good but are just tummy fillers. +Salmon Teriyaki. Get multiple orders of it. So good. +My husband really, really likes their fried rice for some reason. It’s not the most strategic item to order if you’re going for maximum fish consumption but, if you like fried rice, you’ll definitely love theirs. +The most refreshing sushi roll is the Cucumber Passion… but make sure you also like cucumbers. My brother-in-law didn’t care much for it but it’s my favorite roll(no rice). +I agree with Ingrid A. — be nice to the servers/waiters. They work hard and it must be mayhem trying to keep up with everyone’s orders. Tip them well! +Come early(around 5:00 or 5:30PM) to ensure you get seated sooner. I usually come for dinner and have not tried their lunch all-you-can-order experience.

My family came to eat sushi here because it was recommend by a friend, and especially went out just to go there. We arrived at 9:20pm and were promptly greeted at the door and told that they stopped serving sushi already. We were under the impression that they closed at 10pm. We were confused and didn’t understand. He said that 10pm is when everyone is supposed to be out, but that they had already stopped serving food. Very disappointed by their attitudes, and by the wrong information that was posted on their closing time… next time turn the open sign off! And stop advertising that you close at 10! Complete waste of time. We will not be going back, no matter how good the food might be.

Wow! Everything on the menu except for one or two items are options on the All You Can Eat option for dinner! Yum! We got a bunch of different things and shared them all. Don’t over order or they might charge you extra for the items not eaten but it was yummy enough that I stuffed myself silly. Pretty easy to find free street parking within a block or two of the restaurant.

WHEREHAVEYOUBEENALLMYLIIIFFFEEEE Why, if you are a sushi fan, would you NOT get the $ 26 All You Can Eat? This doesnt JUST apply to sushi either, its the whole damn menu! As long as you can 90% of what you ordered, everything falls in that flat rate $ 26(which is totally fair or you’d just get enough for takeout over the next week). Any other time I eat sushi, I want 3 or 4 rolls and at least 2 – 3 apps, normally my bill is around $ 125-$ 150 for 3 people and here it was under 100 and we did 4 rolls and 6 apps. I would have done more if I was just with girlfriends haha My husband felt the fish quality could be better(he’d give Junai a 3 or 4 star), but I thought the fish was clean, fresh, and tasty. The sauces were amazing(get the Ex Girlfriend Roll), the apps were creative and delicious(Mini Katsu Balls or whatever… HEAVEN), and the place was pretty much adorable. We were lucky, it wasnt slammed, but Ive heard of hellacious waits. Basically im madly in love with Sushi Junai.

OMG this place is dangerous! Super friendly waitress. The place was packed. Shrimp tempura, mini rolly katsu, spicy tuna crackers, black jack, dragon, 2 star bucks, tiger, Who’s your ex wife, Junai special and KBBQ rolls… stuffed! Oh wait, and then the lychee ice cream. It was all great and a steal at $ 40 for two of us. The only one roll I would pass on is the KBBQ roll. The bulgogi was good but it was too much. WEARYOURSTRETCHYPANTS!

I came to Sushi Junai with family on 9÷26÷2015 and it exceeded my expectations. This place does not compromise quality for quantity. We ordered 12 specialty rolls and they were amazing. The green tea mochi great as well. Definitely not the buffet quality I expected. My favorite rolls were The Stonehedge and Your Ex Wife. I am glad they are opening a new location north near Parmer and Mopac, I believe.

Can I marry this place? This is the best AYCE sushi buffet evaaaaa! My friend Jonathan F. posts at least a pic or 2 of sushi Junai on Facebook weekly. So I knew I have to give this place a visit during my trip to Austin. It was so worth it. I got the dinner menu which includes nigiri on top of rolls, appertizers, desserts, etc. Lunch menu has everything but the nigiri for $ 20 vs. $ 27 for dinner. All the food is make-to-order. The great thing about coming with a large group is that I get to try more food. Everything was fresh and delicious, but my favorite was the white tuna, hamachi and sweet shrimps. You can’t go wrong with this place. It’s awesome. This AYCE sushi buffet is much better than most sushi restaurant in Dallas. I wish we have something like this here. I’d go cray for it.

I’m not sure why this place has such low ratings. Their sushi is high quality compared to the price, I deducted one star bc lunch all you can eat doesn’t include nigiri and fish sushi. Other than that, they include a variety of special rolls that are very delicious. I specifically recommend the strip salmon and the ex girlfriend special roll, very very yummy! They even have mochi ice cream included!!! I’m definitely coming back.

Hours later, and I’m still really full. If you’re planning to eat more than 2 rolls then the all you can eat is well worth it. ~$ 27 for dinner(includes the nigiri) and $ 20 for lunch(no nigiri). These all you can eat options include EVERYTHING– dessert, appetizers, salads, teriyaki, and noodle dishes. Our group ordered ALOT. Here is a brief overview: Appetizers: monkey brains and the mushroom caps were deliciously fried and heavy– so order just enough for everyone at the table to try just one to keep room in your stomach. Screaming o and white o were pretty tasty too. Fresh sashimi in sweet sauces. Seaweed salad is a great fresh accompaniment to the heavier rolls also. Rolls: the special rolls are all very tasty, but they get pretty heavy after eating a lot. Sushi Junai definitely makes their rolls with lots of flavor masking the fish, but there are still generous portions of fish in the rolls. Some favorites– cucumber passion, candy cane, ex girlfriend, tiger, final destination, just for the halibut Nigiri: mmmm these are the best bang for your buck when doing all you can eat. Some interesting ones were the scallop yum yum(good but I couldn’t have more than one), garlic albacore, sweet shrimp. And of course the traditional tuna, white tuna, and salmon nigiri were excellent. Desserts: strawberry mochi was my favorite. The ice brownie was pretty standard and delicious– just a brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce on top Overall, I am so glad I finally got to experience Junai, but it is definitely an experience. I really don’t think I’ll be able to go again for a while. my friends think I’ll turn into sushi myself!

After living in Las Vegas I assumed all sushi places were AYCE… but upon moving to Austin in 2011 I realized it is NOT like that. We found this place after walking around downtown after leaving the Bob Bullock Imax(mission impossible, go see it!). It’s literally a few minutes away and gave it a shot. Everything we had was delicious. We were there around 6:30 and it was filling up with folks. The rule here is its AYCE, front and back of menu — no exclusions… BUT you MUSTEATEVERYTHINGYOUORDER or pay for each item separately. We tried: 1) Junai roll — my favorite 2) rainbow roll 3) garlic edamame 4) salmon skin salad — try this even if you are on the fence. I’d come back just to order this even without the ayce… for $ 7, very filling 5) mango mocha and green tea mocha We tried 2 other rolls that I don’t even remember the names of, both great but nothing compared to the Junai roll — After leaving I found out this owner/chef is indeed from Las Vegas.. I knew it!!! so good and worth a try.

All you can eat sushi? Say it isn’t so! A friend recommended this place & it didn’t meet my expectations. Our waitress was really nice, but the wait time between the rolls to bring out were ridiculous. The sushi are all made to order. I knew that before coming so we ordered all at once about 10 rolls. The wait time between the rolls were about 30 – 45 min each. We were there for 4 hours. The restaurant was busy, but we didn’t expect to stay there for that long. You also have to finish all of your sushi that you ordered or else you’ll get charged for it. If you had to wait 4 hours until you get the rest of your rolls, wouldn’t you feel stuffed?! Quality of the nigiri were great. The sushi was good, a little bit too much sauce for some rolls for my taste.

Don’t doubt it: If you are really REALLY hungry for sushi, Sushi Junai is your place for all-you-can-eat sushi, especially if you are a huge fan of Americanized specialty rolls! For a reasonable $ 20 per person during lunchtime, you can order essentially unlimited appetizers, hot entrees, sushi rolls, and desserts. The only exception of this infinite food is that few appetizers such as the salmon collars are limited to one per person. However, unless it’s out of stock, you can order as much of anything as you want and the only limit is your appetite and time! Don’t let the whole buffet concept fool you! You will definitely get the same(and occasionally even better!) quality food from Sushi Junai and everything is made on the spot. As a stubborn sushi purist(You know, the one who complains about rolls not being Japanese enough), I enjoyed the appetizers more. In my eating fury, the ones that stood out were the freshly fried shrimp tempura and the white O, which is a dish of sliced super white tuna sashimi pieces drizzled with garlic ponzo sauce. If you are looking for an entrée, the soft and tender salmon teriyaki is a good choice! How about the rolls, Sushi Junai’s main selling point? Aside from the classic rolls including California, the menu is full of the restaurant’s unique specialty rolls. Most of them come in an impressive, heavily sauced-and-decked 5 – 8 piece portion so choose wisely at first! Can’t decide which ones to get? Here are some recommendations to start: *Final Destination: Spicy soft shell crab and tempura shrimp roll topped with avocado drenched in S.O. sauce *Tiger: Tempura shrimp roll topped with avocado and tuna drizzled in unagi sauce *Cucumber passion: Rice-less roll of cucumber wrapping tuna, salmon, and crab meat Prepared to indulge yourself in an insane amount of Japanese food? Let’s go! — Here are some tips to make the most of your trip: 1) Come in a group of 4 or less because this restaurant gets crowded easily and wait is longer with a larger crowd(No reservation allowed) 2) If your wait is long, take a nice stroll at the Texas Capitol park that is only a few blocks away 3) Order A LOT at first; food will take a while to arrive and you want to maximize your eating time because the parking is street metered 4) Specify the pieces of appetizers like tempura and tofu you want or else you will automatically get a small portion 5) Tip your waiting staff please. Even under this demanding environment, your waiting staff will always make sure you get the best service! — tl;dr version: –Virtually unlimited appetizers, entrees, sushi, and dessert –High quality delicious food despite being an AYCE –Selection with more focus on fusion appetizers and Americanized rolls
