Closed!!! They stopped paying rent and blew town– finally decided give WOB a try last Saturday(2÷13÷16) and we were greeted by a letter on the door stating that the locks had been changed. Too bad. There was usually a decent crowd whenever I drove by. Have no idea if they’re going to attempt a restart, but if they do they better read these reviews. It seems to be a franchise, and maybe the franchisee just didn’t have enough experience in the business.

Well, this place appears to be closed now. The good: Dog friendly patio. Super dog friendly staff. Great selection of bottled beer. A stage for live music. The bad: Overall service is slow. Sitting at the bar is slightly better, but not by much.

Good night, sweet prince. By the looks of these reviews, you will not be missed too terribly. Some quick research reveals that a number of World of Beer locations have closed fairly recently after opening in other cities. Corporate must not mess around. Slow-starting WOB sites get the boot.

Service is awful. It’s pathetic. The staff could not care any less about you. I’ve been 3xs. It was fun and tasty when they first opened, but the terrible service has really brought the place down. I brought a friend who was in town visiting. We were hungover and wanted to watch football, but I was embarrassed for taking him there, due to the rude service we received from 3 different servers. Food isn’t too bad. The pretzel is awesome. Location is fantastic. It’s too bad they can’t get a decent staff. They’d really do well. If you like being treated like crap by your server, then this is the place to go.

We went to World of Beer after thoroughly being disappointed with the service at Banger’s and still wanted to get our beer on. This place did the job, friendly service and the food and drink arrived promptly. I did see a lot of reviews that said their beer selection was not vast. At first we thought the same after we were given a draught menu, which still had a good selection of local beers, but wasn’t very comprehensive. Then we asked about their bottle selection and were promptly given an electronic tablet FULL of various beers. What I don’t understand is why they didn’t offer that to us in the beginning or explain that about their selection. This is a decent place to drink beer, get a burger and watch whatever game is playing, they have a lot of TV’s.

We came for their Sunday brunch. Pros: — $ 2 mimosas for Sunday brunch — good selection of beer. Kona porter was good! — the chicken was really good(in the chicken and waffles) — the blueberry compote was very good(waffles) — the bourbon maple syrup was excellent — the pretzel was excellent — cheese and mustard were really good — blood Mary was pretty solid Middle: — the burger received a lackluster review. It was ok. Cons: — no coffee. How can a place serve brunch with no coffee??? — 3 of us had the waffles unfortunately. They were the hardest waffles I’ve ever had. Maybe they should serve these day old waffles with a steak knife! I suspect my review would’ve been higher if I wasn’t here for brunch. They have a great beer selection and the cocktails look tasty. I’ll come back for happy hour or after work drinks.

Title: World of Bland Beer selection looks awesome. Unfortunately I came for the Sat morning brunch. It seems like maybe the flavorless chicken and hard dry sponge waffles may be ok if I had come in with a 2am buzz? Sadly, frozen chicken nuggets would have been better than the bland corn meal breaded chicken on my plate. Now thinking I should have actually taken the to go box that was offered. I’ve got some tough spots in my stove top that the brillo pad waffle could have tackled. I should have run after the first two warning signs: 1. Place is dead at 12pm 2. When asking what fruit comes with the side of fruit and the answer is «I’m not sure, nobody ever orders that. Let me run back and see how it looks.» I had high hopes for a place with such a great beer selection and seemingly gourmet menu. There’s just too many awesome places in Austin with a decent beer selection and great food to waste another outing here. I give this place another 6 months or less

You know that food that sounds awesome when you’re drunk and soaks up the alcohol like a sponge? I give you World of Beer. With an empty room with no other patrons, we still had high hopes. We came in for their beeeerunch. Terrible idea. Chicken and waffle sandwich was flavorless. Fried chicken strips and what appeared to be frozen waffles. No flavor. Zero. No salt and pepper in sight either. Also, who has a brunch without coffee? My hubby was drinking beer, I wanted coffee. Nope. We asked for candied bacon on the menu. The waiter said«nah I don’t think we have that. We don’t do much brunch…» We asked what the fruit was. «I dunno. We don’t sell a lot of it…» I’m so sooo glad I didn’t order the crabcake benedict.

If this is the WORLD of beers, I hate to see what the Country or State of is!!! Pretty underwhelming selection of beers IMHO. I have seen many more at several other places(hello Flying Saucer in Dallas). I did manage to find one good Belgium beer that I stuck with during our visit. Went on a Thursday for Geeks Who Drink Trivia night. Sat in a booth in the very back of the restaurant. It was super hot because they had all of the patio doors open with the misters outside and the moisture and heat just stifled any flowing air inside. Yuck. Having gone for trivia, and beer of course, one important thing is being able to hear the MC call out the questions. Due to the MCs inability to properly use a mic(he had it way to close to his mouth) and where my group was sitting, we mostly heard«wah wah wah wah.» Lol! Ugh. Lots of «huh? What did he say» did anyone get that?” So trivia was challenging, in more ways than one. ;) Another hindrance(insert tiny violin playing here) was that it seemed like almost every time a question was read, the server seemed to walk over at the exact moment and ask us if we needed anything. Way to stay on top of things, but if you see full beers, please keep walking until the MC quits talking. [We take trivia pretty seriously, you see.] Now, may I address the food offerings for a moment please? The menu contains a few typical and some non-typical bar grub type options — all the beers I «thought» WOBs had and the varied menu led to the initial appeal. HIT: A MASSIVE pretzel(literally the size of my head; and I have a big hat rack), presented hanging on a stand with decent house-made beer cheese dipping sauce. Classic: pretzel and beer. Good. MISS: The«Artisan» sausage board was a little disappointing. For 15 bucks, WOB served up a few different slices of sausages(one jap, one smoked, and one other?) with a couple of small pickled veg. The best thing on the board by far was the«house-made stone ground mustard.» YOUSANKMYBATTLESHIP: Admittedly, I am an absolute idiot for even ordering Seared Tuna at a «bar,» but the waitress promised it was fantastic and boldly stated it was very popular. Okay… OMGag! The WORST fish I have ever put in my mouth! It tasted like it had been floating in a fish bowl for the last two days! It was SO watered down. I assume that it was frozen and then thawed before being seared and sliced. Ick. No, just no. Cannot recommend. [Actually, I believe they took it off the menu since my last visit and now serve tuna Poke style– soy, avocado, and peppers are a great way to hide the disgusting fish. Good luck with that one guys.] Overall not too bad of a joint. Parking is a breeze; there’s a free garage right next to the building. Just don’t expect to find the exact beer you want, avoid any and all fish, and if going for trivia get there super early and sit right up front. Cheers! [170 in 2015]

This place has potential to compete with Black Sheep, Doc’s, all of the sports bars in Austin. And instead it chooses to be overpriced & poor serviced, while also lacking the NFL Sunday ticket package(seriously???). The food is great here. The layout of the place is great, as well. But the service is horrendous. Every time I have been there, it take 5 minutes to get the table greeted and 10 minutes to get a drink. And forget getting a server to take away a cleared plate — it’s impossible. None of the wait staff has any knowledge of all of the beer they offer, so they can’t offer a decent suggestion for what you are looking for. I hope this place gets its act together. It has potential to be a really awesome and busy bar, but they need to work on their service.

This place is cool, food is good, great beer selection but the service sucks. Fun environment, came during trivia night, speakers were way too loud tho. I’m not a beer expert, typically I drink Miller Lite – which I don’t like that much but it’s light. so I tried the Kraftiglager and I loved it, way better than Miller. I then tried the San Tan Mr. Pineapple, and wow that’s great, tastes just like it sounds! Got the tavern taters, I was hesitant to try the house-made beer cheese but it was good, I would say it’s a little overpowering, I prefer a better balance of the cheese/sour cream(which was very lightly drizzled) but overall, it was delicious and was a great portion, definitely filling as a meal if you don’t plan to share. My friends got the: –Turkey club – they were disappointed to realize there was no cheese, the menu doesn’t say there is but still, it’s not good without cheese. Other than that he liked it, and it was very filling. –Chipotle chicken sandwich – they said it was really good but the chicken size was extremely small compared to the bun size. Bacon was a little over cooked but it was tasty.

I found myself again. This place was what i was missing in life. I’ve never seen a system like theirs. They have a little computer and you can sort your beers down country, to style, color and even down to the alcohol content. I tired beers i have never even heard of so i was glad they had a huge selection from all over the world to choose from. The sports tvs can get a little loud but other than that, cheers!

Desperately wanted to love this place! It’s right by our house and we were beyond excited to try this spot out. Sad day when we experienced by far the worst customer service ever. We were greeted promptly by a server, then this girl with the attitude of an immature 16 year old starts an argument with our initial server(right by our table!) claiming that we were her table. It wouldn’t have been so bad(I mean who doesn’t like to be fought over) but she was incredibly rude to him and an absolute snot to us. Just an absolute snot. The beer selection is up to par and has a pretty stellar atmosphere. The food is your typical«gormet bar» cuisine and really nothing stuck out. I think once the service is improved dramatically it would greatly increase traffic for them. It’s just sad to have a cool spot and yet it’s unenjoyable because servers are rude. We will probably give it another shot a few months from now to see if anything has changed… so til then…

On both their website and Unilocal their hours are listed as being open until 2AM on Saturday nights. We walked in at 12:45AM and were greeted with smiles. Little did we know, these smiles were actually pretentious smirks. Upon walking up to the bar we were told that we would not be served and that they were closed already. I tried talking to the manager, but he was even more smug and rude than the incompetent, low-life employees at this unprofessional establishment. Do yourself a favor and go to Craft Pride or one of the other countless legitimate microbrew venues in Austin. Avoid this place at all costs. on

Visited world of beers to see a singer we are considering hiring for our wedding. They have a really great beer selection and a good menu selection as well. Service was good, beers were cold. We had the smothered tater tots, the chimay burger & the sausage sliders. Im not usually a fan of tater tots, but these were great –they had fresh jalapenos on them, which I loved! The chimay burger had a very good flavor to it. We tried the: scotch ale, bourbon ale, salted grapefruit beer & black cherry cider. The salted grapefruit beer had a very distinctive taste, but it grows on you. Loved the black cherry cider, it was definitely on the sweet side. Forgot to mention that they had Sriracha sauce available, which is awesome! Only downside to the restaurant: it was extremely loud & sound system was not good, therefore hard to hear the singer(who was really great).

Not a bad spot for a cold drink with some kicking AC. I prefer the local watering holes nearby but WOB has some perks. The pros: — dog friendly patio — misting fans on the patio(which is also covered) — ample TVs to watch the games — quick service — free parking garage — the food menu looks solid for bar food — lots of bottles and canned beer with a Texas section The cons: — Not many local beers on draft — wine selection could be better. I know it is a «beer bar» but they also serve liqueur and wine. I would be more likely to return if they at least dated their opened reds. We enjoyed a round a drinks while in the area and appreciated the easy breezy parking and ice cold AC. I opted for the malbec but upon tasting it I realized it had turned. I let the bartender know and he kindly replaced it with another wine(I went for a Sauvignon Blanc as it would be chilled and less likely not be turned). The replacement wine was refreshing and cool. Jesse enjoyed his beer but noticed the lack of Austin staples like Live Oak hefe and 512. They allow pups on the patio, have purse hooks(yay) and ample parking which is all pretty remarkable in my book. Note $ 2 mimosas on Sunday!

This place just opened up near my apartment, so I decided to go check it out with some coworkers one day. The service was weird. The bartender made it a point to tell us that he was our server, bartender and manager, so he might not check on us very often. If he had just said like«I’m the only one here, please order at the bar», I think it wouldn’t have rubbed me the wrong way as much. He was also just sort of a rude, pretentious dude. A couple of people ate and were pretty pleased with the burger and fries. I tried some fries and thought they were CRAZY salty. Like the kind of salty that eats away the skin from your mouth and you remember the food for days but not in a good way. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but with all of the fun places on South Lamar, it won’t be at the top of my list to return to.

When the garage door type deal is closed and there are any people in there, the place is ridiculously loud. People are shouting just to communicate with the person next to them. Not to mention the music also seems too loud. I feel like Huey Lewis in Back to the Future letting Marty McFly know he’s just too darn loud.

I have to say I am a fan of the World of Beer as a chain and used to go to the one in Orlando often before I moved here to Austin. That being said, this place is trying way too hard to fit in to the Austin landscape with the live music all the time and it is wayyyy too small of a storefront for this with very little acoustic control. It’s obnoxiously loud in here to the point that you literally cannot even speak to the person standing right next to you. If we wanted to go to a scene like this where you can’t hear what the person you’re trying to talk to his saying, we would go to a club downtown and just dance without regard for human interaction. People come to World of Beer to try some interesting beers and have a nice conversation. This place needs to tone down the volume of the music or it is going to lose patrons very fast. Just focus on the important piece here which is a great beer selection and lose the unbearable live music.
