This is my Y away from home, although I have to admit that I visit this one more often than«my» Y. Nice pool — very rarely full — have had to share a lane a couple times out of many many visits. Locker room solid — offers privacy that’s your thing. Have enjoyed the cycle/spin classes I’ve taken. Never have had any problem with treadmill availability — occasionally all taken but it doesn’t last. Never had to «surrender» the one I’m using and I’m often on it for 60+ minutes. I don’t do any group classes other than the spin ones. Gets a little crowded right after work but by 8pm it’s thinning out nicely. Never had a single problem. I wish this was my own Y. Wish it had a sauna but I’ll survive.

I have been going to this YMCA for about 2 years now. I’m a swim dog so the pools are what I know, I don’t use anything else in the facility. The people at the front desk are very nice. The cost used to be high for a single person — better for families but lately they adjusted the fees to a more reasonable level. When I lost my job they helped me out on pricing. Pretty darn cool. The locker room is fairly clean considering it’s a YMCA, it has it’s days where there are paper towels all over the floor but that’s the clientele and usually it’s clean. One of my complaints is they flip the floor mats in the locker room upside down so they hurt your feet, they have down — up. What’s up with that? I guess the staff doesn’t walk in their bare feet or they would flip them. They have a nice swim suit spinner to dry your suit when you are done, I love that thing… :) The pools are clean and they keep them open almost every day with the usual it’s broke or it needs extra chlorine for 18 hours(oook) but that’s all public pools. The one real complaint I have is that the lap pool is just a few degrees too cool. It’s shocking when you first get in and everyone swims fast for a lap or two to get used to it. It takes a lap or two for my lungs to open up from the cold, so I swim fast to the end and sit a few seconds so I can breathe. But after a few laps I forget about the temperature and get a nice roll going on. It’s usually not too crowded and the life guards do a pretty good job of keeping the kids from playing in the lap lanes. People crossing lap lanes is dangerous and that almost never happens at this Y. Life guards are great but the turn over is crazy often. I wonder if they rotate them between facilities? This Y is a great convenient place for me to immerse myself in the healing waters and it’s almost perfect. 4 whoohoos for youse.

I wanted to give this a 4 star instead of a 5 star but it’s hard not to give it a 5 star. First i have to admit that this gym doesn’t really fit me personally, ‘yet’. But i love what they have done with this gym and what it represents. It is probably one of the nicest, more expensive YMCA’s I’ve ever been to. And ironically it is right next to a neighborhood that isn’t all that well off, but it is totally safe at the Y. It is really hard to put in words but one must experience for themselves like Stephanie P. stated in her review. They have an entire computer lab with brand new computers, big screen TV, new state of the art equipment, several area’s through out the building just to lodge or sit down and enjoy their Wi-Fi, and even a very beautiful balcony, large community garden, huge kids area. They have several rooms for fitness classes such as yoga, zumba etc. and even a room where they hold seminar. This is truly a ‘community’ YMCA because the offer so many things to the local community that don’t directly evolve fitness. Not to mention the city of Austin shares the name of this building because it was built with the cities money even though they YMCA functions it. After saying all this, this particular doesn’t fit me. The only complaint i have if any is that i didn’t love this place the first time i went there. It wasn’t until the second time that i realized that this Y was meant to be different from all the other Y’s initially. I didn’t love it simply because with all these amenities i ironically couldn’t find the weight room. The weight room is rather small in comparison to most Y’s in Austin and they have very limited weights. It wasn’t until the second time that i realized that they are just trying to accommodate ‘family’s’ into fitness, these gym isn’t for the hard core lifters all though if you get creative enough i’m sure one could come up with a way to get around it. With so many area’s to lodge with the big screen TV’s and kick your feet back this is most definitely the most relaxing environment I’ve ever been to. This is definitely deserving of a 5 star.

The Weight/Machine area is very, very small and not looked after at all. There are at least 50+ cycle/stepper cardio stations but only 1 flat bench press. There are 2 large and 1 medium group work out rooms, but the free weight area is tiny and framed in front of one mirror. You can’t even reach the dumb bells you want most times because of someone crowding the way in front of the mirror. Apart from the pool and basketball court the downstairs has lots of waisted space as well. All in all it’s a great effort but very poorly planed out.

Had an issue with an automatic payment not going through. They called to inform me of the issue, but when I called back the same day, I was told that they were busy assisting customers in person, and I would have to call back another time. I was out of town at the time, so I decided to deal with it when I got back; a week later. Wham! $ 15 «bank» penalty for delaying a week.

My family and I attend this location and the Town Lake location. I like them both, but I really feel like I am a part of something here at this particular location. It’s hard to put into words, but I hope you’ll try it and see for yourself.

Our family has visited several YMCA locations around Austin trying to find one that was the right fit. We have two young children, a mom who swims for fitness and a dad who uses the gym. Luckily, all of us have found a home at the Rundberg YMCA. Staff are excellent and welcoming coaches, but above all, they truly create a sense of community in keeping with the best traditions of the Young Men’s Christian Association. Membership is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic hodgepodge of people who are going to the Y to maintain or improve their physical and mental well-being. You’ll never feel like you aren’t in good enough shape to go to the gym. Nobody is showing off here. People come as the are… and then try to leave a little bit improved.
