4 of us went here for the first time tonight. The pineapple chicken sandwich was delish, the Basic Burger excellent and, if you like spicy, the fish tacos were good. And the margarita was only $ 4.50. Hannah was an excellent server and Ricky stopped by every 10 minutes to make sure we had everything we needed. We had the opportunity to sit down with Carl, the owner, and had an absolutely wonderful conversation with him. If you’re in the Avila Beach area and are looking for good food at fair prices, check out Fat Cats.

Both food and service were great! I ordered the chili burger and it was huge! My husband ordered some fish sandwich I can’t remember what is was but he lived it! When we are back in the area we will be back!

Been going here for over 12 years. Was always good and reasonable. I went there last week after being gone for 8 months. I could not believe I was in the same restaurant. The prices skyrocketed and the portions shrank, the overall food quality was disappointing to say the least! I have removed it from my list of restaurants.

Fat cats is a good spot to chill and enjoy the location and good food. There usually isn’t a massive crowd, plenty of parking, friendly staff and solid food. Make sure you check the daily specials as they are very good. Some of the great items are anything breakfast, fishermen’s platter, burgers and fish and chips. There is outside seating and bar seating and booths inside. There is bike parking and restrooms. This is a great local tradition and a spot we hit anytime we come to the central coast. Make sure you check out the pics and albums of the fat cats!

Came for late brunch/early lunch around 1 p.m. on a Sunday and the wait was approx. 20 mins. We passed the time by walking down the pier. The service was fine, view of the water was great, and the food was all to our liking. The prices are standard for the location. I enjoyed the Bloody Mary — spicy and delicious. The special of grilled cod and chips was good and easily split between. The shrimp cocktail was also excellent. It has lots of celery and tomato chunks and we enjoyed eating it with the crisp chips served alongside. This is a nice breakfast/brunch/lunch spot but it does get busy.

There’s outside and inside seating for the restaurant. I regret eating inside because their indoors eating area was not very sanitary. There was also a funky odor that arguably could have been culprit-ed by the nearby beach. Even still, this made for an non-enjoyable eating experience. The food is on the greasier side and stays true to the diner style. Service is so-so. I did not have a traumatizing experience, but I also cannot picture myself ever coming back.

Came here for dinner, 6pm on a Thursday. Weather and location, great. Food and service, not so much. Food was mediocre at best. Soup(clam chowder as the only option) that came with entrees the best part. Menu definitely over-priced for what is offered. Don’t order the grilled salmon; you’re better off just BBQing salmon in your own backyard. Coconut shrimp was ok, but keep in mind that it is prepackaged, frozen coconut shrimp(our server literally told us this). Speaking of our server… Service here definitely leaves something to be desired. Server(Chris) was unkind, unhelpful, argumentative, and rude. Long story short: will definitely find another restaurant at which to spend my summer evenings.

This has always been my favorite breakfast location in the Pismo/Morro Bay/Avila Area. When you first see it you might be like, «um no», but I promise you that it is amazing! I have only ever had breakfast here, so I am unsure how lunch or dinner might be(if they even offer it). I always order scrambled eggs, a side of «country fries», and some sausage gravy. Ladies and gentleman, I am very picky about my sausage gravy. This fat girl eats fried potatoes and gravy every weekend, so I know good biscuits and gravy when I eat them. I wasn’t expecting much this last time I went, but oh my lord, the flavor! There was actual flavor to the gravy! For once in my life it didn’t taste like flour and milk, I could taste the pepper, the salt, the sausage. I could feel my heart start pounding, as if at any moment it was going to explode from all of the cholesterol. I was in heaven. The place is small and is also clean. They have a nice patio if you prefer to freeze your nipples off in the early mornings…(which I do). Thank you for being so purrrrfect, Fat Cats.

Great food with a great view of the ocean. Been coming here for few years and loving it. You must try the clam chowder and their fish and chips. Be prepared to wait, this place is popular.

Outdoor seating is great since the weather was so nice but the food wasn’t great. I had a California burger. It was just okay. There are better restaurants in the cute little town about 1 ½ miles away in Avila Beach.

If you are going to call yourself«Fat Cats» have a kinder pet policy… I understand if someone has an unruly animal, but if someone wants to sit on your patio with a small dog(especially if no one is out there) maybe consider it??? Also, 45 minutes(when no one is there) to get food? And no manager to speak to? Not impressed. Off to Custom House(or any other patio dining on the Central Coast) where my pet is welcome and service will most likely be better.

Nice stopping point while travelling on the 101, but don’t expect amazing food. I ordered the club crab sandwhich and was dissapointed when the sandwhich came out and all of the other ingredients overwhelmed the taste of the crab. I also ordered the cappuccino and it tasted like it was I stand coffee.

Big portions and full of flavor. I just wished my burger patty was cooked a bit less. My child ordered the fish and chips which was such a big portion I wondered if she was given an adult plate. Overall very satisfied.

View was nice but don’t waste your time. Food was a 1 at best. Service however was great. All in all not worth the trip or $ 50 lunch for 2.

Fat Cats has all the trappings of a pierside diner, complete with greasy menus, large plates, fried eats, seafood options and front seat ocean views. We started with the calamari, which was pretty rubbery and chewy. Clam chowder and calamari die-hards, skip the chowder and calamari here and move on to the breakfast and sandwich selections. I ordered the Fish Taco Plate($ 11.95) and my mom and dad went with the Rib Eye Steak Sandwich($ 17.95) and the Open Faced Crab Sandwich($ 11.95). My dad really was a fan of his steak sandwich, which comes stacked with sautéed onions, bell peppers and melted jack cheese on ciabatta bread, all crowned with one large onion ring. The crab sandwich comes with sourdough bread cloaked with crab meat, tomatoes and melted jack cheese. Good choice for a hearty seafood diner classic that’s easy on the wallet. The fish tacos were in great need of a flavor kick, so I jazzed ‘em up with a nice dose of salt and pepper. Not the best fish tacos I’ve had but they were very filling and did the job. Fat Cats has got you covered for breakfast and filler food favorites with a view. Most of the breakfast menu is served all day, so you can consume biscuits ‘n gravy, seafood omelettes, cinnamon rolls and huevos rancheros at any meal of your choosing.
