Positives: –Very clean, bright gym –Large variety of equipment from cardio to free weights. –Open 24 hours a day I was excited to get started at Mei Fitness after signing up. The place looked great. It has lots of equipment to use. I was ready to roll. The guy behind the counter got me set up quickly and scheduled me for a tour of the gym with a staff member the next day. Negatives: –Be wary of the first day«tour of the gym» –Registration Fees have to be paid again if you cancel and want to sign up again When I arrived for my first day, I had it set in my mind what I wanted to do. I’ve been to gyms before. The guy behind the counter had a gentleman ready for me for what I thought was a tour of the gym, what it was instead was a free trial of the personal trainer. I was ok with this in the beginning. I’ve been down this road before. He took down my weight, my goals, and concocted a plan on how we can go forward. After the rundown on why and how, he had me do some exercises with him. Squats, lunges, jumping squats, etc. Mind you, I’m not in shape. I should have told him I was done at a certain point, but pushed on, trying my best. I reached a point where I literally couldn’t stand up on my own and he needed to help me up. We then went back to the table and chairs. He went into pricing for personal training, explaining how beneficial it could be for me. I told him I wasn’t interested in it. He continued, going to the manager, trying to haggle pricing with me. Again, I declined. He thanked me for my time and I got up and left. My legs were in a lot of pain and it was pretty embarrassing. He let me know that I’d want to keep moving because the more I sat still in that condition, the worse it would be when I got up. I was kind of upset leaving the gym as I did nothing that day that I wanted to do there. The trainer was right about the leg pain. I spent the next several days not only unable to go to the gym because of my legs, but also hobbling around the house(luckily I’m an at-home dad so having to go to a job was not affected). A couple of days later was my daughter’s birthday party, which we had went to a water park and I was doing my best not to look like an idiot as I struggled to walk around. Ultimately I should have said something when I realized I was reaching my limits. The trainer probably should have been able to tell that with my physique, I wouldn’t be able to do as much. In the end it got into my head and I felt embarrassed any time I seen the trainer, which led to me leaving the gym. When I cancelled my membership to the gym, I asked the guy behind the counter that if I decided to come back would I have to pay the registration fees again or would I be able to start back up at the regular monthly rate. He said that when you leave, you are removed from the system and that you have to pay to get put back on. That was enough for me to know that I wouldn’t return.

Very clean. Many treadmills, step machines, cycles etc for cardio. large free weight area plus large variety of machines. Negative: disappointed that they blast Jesus music overhead, especially weekends.

I was never going to join a gym. Between Jillian Michaels dvds and my apartment gym, I didn’t think it was necessary. I went to MEI because I had a free three day pass and wanted to check It out. I ended up signing up for a free month and fell in love with the gym. It is very clean at all times, they’re always cleaning something. The owner, Mel, is always around with a very positive attitude and keeping the place updated with the newest equipment and fun new things to try. One of my favorite things is that there is a projection screen in the class room and you can choose to do a class if there isn’t one going on at the time you get there. Great way to warm up. Everyone is really nice and they’ve helped me with form and different exercises to increase strength. There are plenty of women in the weight section of the gym which keeps it from being too intimidating. The trainers are very helpful and I worked with Leonard to hit my fitness goals. If you are wondering about a gym, my advice is to check it out. You won’t find a more family oriented gym around. It is a my home away from home now! They have a sauna and kids room as well as a bunch of different classes throughout the day. The gym equipment is properly maintained and he’s always adding new things to keep it fresh!
