I took my beautiful wife out tonight to celebrate our 29th Valentine’s Day together. The Petroleum Club served an incredible 4 course dinner including Lobster Bisque, Petite Chateaubriand, awesome coffee«from the hills of Columbia» and an incredible Lingonberry Cheese Cake. Bryan was our server and he was awesome, kind, personable, and fun. Wonderful experience, much better than my last 2 restaurant experiences at the Mark and Steak&Grape. Thank you Petroleum Club

Where do I start with the Petroleum Club? I’m sure in its heyday, this could have been the epitome of dining in Bakersfield. But that day has long since passed. The place is beyond dated, cracked/broken repaired armchairs, time worn carpets circa 1979. Now, that in itself«might» create a nostalgic ambience, but then enters the service. That too is dated from the 70’s, noted when I was taking my team out for lunch. It was that day when I witnessed the manager(elderly man, whom I won’t identify) proceed to work the room, greeting all the patrons. When he approached my table, he shook hands with all those present… except me. Let’s say as an Asian man in that establishment, I stood out. He casually glanced at me, then walked over to the table adjacent to us. This might be a fluke you say? To which I reply, nay, I’ve seen it again. Since it is the only bar in the building where my company occupied several floors, I took my team there often for drinks. On yet another occasion, I witnessed this fine gentleman do exactly the same, only this time he ignored our table all-together. It was me and a team mate of, shall we say a darker persuasion, that he bypassed entirely. We made a comment to our waiter to inform the manager that we had noticed, and did not appreciate the treatment. The ONLY redeeming quality in my visits there was Tiffany, the most excellent bar tender. She was friendly, chatty, and down to earth… made EXCELLENT Bloody Mary’s to boot. There are so many places to dine in Bako, my friends. If you work there in the building or have no other options, the drinks are good and the view is indeed nice. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and choose one of the many other venues.

If you enjoy food… This is a great classy exclusive place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great to place to have meetings also. Great view overlooking the beautiful city of Bakersfield accompanied with great food prepared by their executive chef. If you love breakfast, the menu is excellent. Their breakfast burrito is great and so is their traditional 2 egg Breakfast. I have not tried anything else yet. It tastes fresh and has the love of a home cooked meal. I have yet to have lunch or dinner there but you must have a special membership to get into the restaurant. Find someone who is part of the club and ask them to take you have a meal there. The different rooms available for special events is excellent. Go and eat at this place if doors of opportunity open up for you. Go and enjoy!

Up class restaurant with an amazing view of the city of Bakersfield. Service is always good and the ambiance is like no other. Strongly recommend the breakfast burritos in the AM, very delicious and affordable. It’s the romantic place to take your love one for any celebration or just because. Members only place.

Excellent customer service! Delicious food prepared by Chef Robert and a great ambiance. Something different to do in Bakersfield. Every dining experience has been a pleasant one from the variety of options to the friendly staff. Robert Bunker and Ranzie are a great addition to The Petroleum Club and offer the best for private events and new members. I have been very happy. A new discovery for me has been the breakfast offered during the week! Great food and very affordable. Perfect for morning meetings.

I have very mixed feelings about the Petroleum Club. I want to like it, but really I find it hard to see what all of the hype is about. I have been to the Petroleum Club between 8 – 10 times in the last two year and have never been overly impressed. The food isn’t bad and I have always enjoyed the service provided by the wait staff. However, I am completely disappointed in the customer service provided by the manager and front desk staff. I attended a Christmas party at the Petroleum Club and I forgot to grab my coat on my way out. I didn’t have time to go back and pick it up right away, but after a few weeks I called the front desk to see if they still had it. The first few times I called I only got an answering machine, but I left messages with all of my contact information. I never received a return call for any of my messages. On two separate occasions after this I was able to reach someone at the front desk and they took my information and said they would look into it. Again, my calls were never returned. At this point, I decided to try another form of contact and resorted to filling out the contact form provided on their website and finally I received a response via e-mail. The response was from the general manager and he asked for details about my coat and said he would look into immediately. I provided him with a description, as well as a picture of the coat, and I haven’t heard anything from him since. I have sent follow-up e-mails asking if he had an update and received no response. I understand that it has been 9 months since I visited the club and that in that amount of time they probably donated the coat or something along those lines. However, I think it is completely unprofessional that I have had such a difficult time receiving responses regarding the matter. I would be completely understanding if they no longer have the coat, but my inquiries have not been dignified with any kind of response. I feel that I have been given the run around and it makes me think much less of the establishment. It is supposed to be a club with a commitment to excellence and I believe that I have seen the opposite of that.

Had breakfast there this morning, the service was good, thank you Mica. The food was not good! I am not sure the egg was a real egg, the bacon was cold and dry. I would not recommend eating breakfast at the Petroleum Club

I’m not sure why everyone is rating this place with such a high rating. Well I think I do have an idea on why. This place is by membership only and for the business owners and higher corporate people in Bakersfield. I’ve lived in Orange County and LA for about 8 years and just moved back. This place is nothing special. The food is ehhhh… The only thing that is good about this place are the employees. I guess people feel special by dining in the tallest building in Bakersfield(15 stories or whatever) Big woop. I guess this place is prestigious so it makes people feel good about themselves. I guess its the closest thing to celebrity status in Bakersfield. I ordered the green bean appetizer(good) and beef sandwich(bleh) not good at all.

After my travel photo won first place in our local magazine, my prize was a dinner for 2 at the hands of Chef Robert. Being that I’m a single gal with amazing parents, I decided to treat them. Upon there reserved date and time, they were seated and introduced to the chef himself. No menu was provided; he simply asked my ‘rents what tickles their pallets to which they replied, «spicy seafood». Following that were moments of mouth orgasm after mouth orgasm– 28 herb goat cheese. Prawns, calamari, scallops in a coconut cream sauce. Grilled fish with creamy purple potatoes. Dessert array of sweet sweet satisfaction. All dishes brought to the table by Chef Robert. My parents left that night feeling like royalty because, well, they were treated like royalty. Props the PC and to Chef Robert!

Best view in Bakersfield to start, always friendly & accomadating staff & the food is very good. Went there for lunch today & begin with their dinner rolls(at lunch!) & freshly brewed tropical ice tea(delish). I ordered the house salad with blue cheese dressing & the tuna sandwhich on sourdough, it came with a dish of fresh fruit. Was really good. The other two ordered the chicken panni with home made potato chips

Great environment. Great food. Great service; however, this does not extend to all staff. The staff was amazing except for a lady with gray, short hair. She treated my friend and I with disrespect, and quite frankly her behavior was just downright trashy. We were in to celebrate our good friend’s law school graduation and she did not like us from the get go. She told us to «Shh.»(Next door was a family celebrating a baptism) By no means were we acting unappropriately. When our party was leaving she ran after us and stuck her head in the elevator yelling unappropriate comments. My only regret about this wonderful experience is that we encountered someone who was so terribly unhappy with her life, that she had to shout it to the world.

The staff at the Petroleum Club Sat. Sept 1st were so nice and accommodating. We/family/friends were celebrating my brothers 80th Birthday, they made the experience very special. The food was cooked to perfection, the service was, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, it was a 10. Thank you to everyone, You made our nite!

Our only regret in this review is that we can not give TEN stars!!! Our anniversary evening began early, we were the first diners in the house. Steps out of the elevator we were warmly greeted by a most pleasant reception staff and seated at the window. Twelve stories up provides a fantastic view of the river and valley. Our server arrived with a smile and welcomed us with an anniversary card signed by the entire staff. Drinks were immediate and the entrees explained. My wife ordered the scallops and made mention that she loves shrimp. While I was deciding our server excused himself, returned and informed us he has spoken to the chef, they were delighted to prepare her dish with jumbo shrimp! I ordered the fillet and we were soon in culinary heaven! Not one regret here! Well worth the price for a fantastic evening!!!

I’ve been to the Petroleum Club for a various number of occasions so I’ll break my review down by occasion type: After dinner drinks: Amazing service. They kept the club open later simply because the executive director of my company is a regular and requested it. There’s this bartender there that has an insanely sharp memory. She knows her regulars’ names and their drink orders. She even remembered my usual drink order(and I’ve only seen her three times!) Dinner: I go for a lot of company events. Usually, the menus are set for these events and you pick from a pre-selected wine list and menu. The typical appetizer is a salad, the entrée is either fish or steak, and the molten lava cake or cheesecake is the desert. Again, great personal service if you’re seated in one of their special rooms. Banquet event: The personalized service disappears. I don’t blame them, they’re just trying to get out 150+ meals in a timely manner. If you’re planning an event here, you pick the hors d’oeuvres, entrees, and desert from their banquet menu. You’ll have to give them a guarantee when you book, which means you’re obligated to pay for that many meals even if you some guests don’t show up. Also, if you want to offer your guests more than 2 entrees, they will charge extra to have another entrée. This place is one of the pricier(and nicer) places to hold in event in Bakersfield. Try the bacon wrapped dates and crab claw hors d’oeuvres and try to score some of their freshly made chips and blue cheese ranch dressing at the bar area. Dining here can be a very enjoyable experience.

Old skoooooooool baby. Spend some time here and you’ll surely rub elbows with the«T-Boone Pickins» of Bakersfield. This club is mos def old skool — many a three martini lunch with a steak followed by cigar have been consumed here. If you know someone who has a membership here, you’re in for a treat. The Petroleum Club is located on the top floor of the tallest building(12 stories) in Bak-o. At night, the location affords beautiful views of the entire San Joaquin Valley(depending on the smog level). The décor in here is all old, dark woods — definitely reminiscent of a construction from the 60’s. The service here is outsanding — couldn’t be better. All the employees here are outstanding — keep it up! Very well managed institution. The night I was here, we had the pasta bar(shrimp/sausage/chicken – you name it) but there is a menu available here, with most plates running around $ 30. The chefs here are outstanding. Nothing better than being addressed as «sir» when you are going to a place. It makes the experience very special. All in all — if you get an invite here, you are in for a treat. After a few cocktails, you’ll definitely feel the essence of all of the biz deals done here and how the boys from the oil patch to do it right.
