Just wanted to let you know that Charley Butt seemed to be right about his assessment of our home, in terms of where/​why we were getting water coming in and flooding my first floor-​which we finally noticed after Hurr Sandy came into our house and then we again saw water in the noreaster that followed in November and apparently many times over the past 5 yrs. Per engineer report and recommendations we had the window and door re-​installed and put siding on the house to correct improper construction/​installation from the construction work we had done, and we have not seen water come in ever since. This gives me peace of mind for when the next storm hits that unless it’s coming up out of the ground, that our house is not going to take on water as it had been for the past several years since adding that door and window.

I’d give the home inspection itself a 5-​star, the price a 4-​star, and their trading of your personal information to others a 1-​star.
The engineer was very courteous and very thorough. He was eager to get and answer questions, and was talking though everything he saw and why it was designed that way. I learned a lot about the house I hadn’t known before, like plumbing layout and security. While I had thought a home inspection would take less than two hours, we spent more than three hours, which in my opinion was good since it was not rushed. Unlike what I had heard about other inspections, my engineer readily went into crawl spaces and up the roof to pore through nooks and crannies. There was a dangerous situation that I would not have noticed if not for his willingness to go to the roof.
The price was steep but compared with the service quality I had heard from others (such as not going on roofs or in crawl spaces), it was fine. I paid well over $ 1000 for a Tauscher Cronacher inspection, while other inspectors had quoted me $ 500 for the same service. They are technically engineers and I was able to talk to my guy about some structural suggestions that a non-​enginner inspector would not be able to discuss.
What really pissed me off (and to be honest, is the reason I am writing this review) is that the company had given my personal information to other companies to solicit me for business. In particular, I get repeated emails and calls at work and home from A-​1 Firstclass moving company. It all started when this email below was sent out. I had no idea that they were going to send my information out like that, and furthermore my phone numbers were never contained in this email, so I suspect they passed on my information separately and without my permission. I never requested any information about a moving company or mortgage lender, so the «we discussed”/“we spoke of» is bull crap.
So if you do decide to go with Tauscher Cronacher (which, despite the soliciting, I would recommend), I strongly suggest you tell them upfront to not to pass your information to others.
