My addiction to gyros began when I discovered the famous Halal Cart on 53rd and 6th in NYC six years ago. It was then my hunt for the best gyros closer to home began. Friends have lauded Samos, Cazbar, Never on Sunday, amongst other establishments as the«very best gyros of Baltimore,» but when I stumbled upon Bob’s, I knew my six-year search had finally come to an end. Bob’s gyros are simply said: FANTASTIC. A heaping serving of rotisserie-roasted lamb served on a fluffy pita with lettuce, tomato, onion, feta cheese and amazingly delicious tzatziki sauce – a gyro doesn’t get much better than this. Better yet, a huge gyro is only $ 5. Count it, five little guys! And if you feel like splurging(I mean you are in a gas station, live a little) you can pay an extra 99 cents for a side of well-seasoned potato wedges or flavorful rice pilaf. My fiancé loves the rice, but I’m a fan of the wedges. Of course, Bob also offers fried chicken, homemade beef stew, breakfast sandwiches, pizza, but I haven’t deviated much from my gyro-loving ways. They have awesome baklava(huge pieces for $ 1.99) and the guy who makes your gyro –his name is Bob, surprise!– is one of the friendliest guys I have met AND from Greece! You can’t get more legit than that. I couldn’t recommend Bob’s more. I took a group of my co-workers here during lunch hour – granted we looked a tad out of place congregating inside the gas station in our business clothes, but hey, no one says you can be too overdressed when enjoying the most delicious gyros in Baltimore. One of my co-workers even ordered a salad with grilled chicken. A risky move in my eyes, but she ate her salad and loved it! They do have a cute seating area with counter-high tables and pub chairs, so if delicious gyros make you weak in the knees, you’re in luck. Next time you’re on your way to 295 or I-95 S, make a quick pit stop at the BP gas station on Russell Street, get a gyro, chit-chat with Bob – you won’t regret it. p. s. Bob’s is closed on Sundays but open til 8pm during the week and 6pm on Saturdays. I come here almost once a week so I have the hours memorized. Sad? Maybe, but I do love my gyros. And now I’ve shared this city’s hidden foodie gem – see you there!
