LOVETHISPLACE! Who knew there was such an amazing place in the heart of Baltimore City — this is the home of the original Raven — the one who you hear when the Baltimore Ravens score a touchdown — what a fun fact. Not just that but the staff is AMAZING! They absolutely love their jobs and really express their excitement in all they do — all of the animals are rescues and came to them from owners who could no longer take care of them — most of these animals actually go to the staff homes when they can’t stay at the Carrie Murray Nature Center. The Nature Center not only has animals — birds of preys, reptiles, and insects but they also have trails upon trails and within the trails they have art work made out of nature — you should check this place out FORSURE! Admission is inexpensive though donations are always appreciated.

Looking for inexpensive summer camp, you found it! We have our boys here for their summer camp, and it’s inexpensive and they love it. The staff are polite and good with the kids. It’s a great summer camp option.

I was really delighted to find, on a hike around Gwynns Falls Leakin Park, that we’re within walking distance of the Carrie Murray Nature Center. After we unpack our house and survive our wedding, my fiancé and I are planning on volunteering here. He’s twitterpated with the extremely charismatic Argentine Black and White Tegu(Buddha) and wanted to be a herpetologist(he likes frogs a lot) when he was little. I used to volunteer for a wonderful raptor rehabilitation center when I lived in another state, and so I was delighted to see the many non-releasable education birds in residence — I just donated to help build them an exercise cage. Whoever is naming the animals: thank you. There’s a black rat snake whose name, I believe, is Cruella. There are two ginormous snakes(pythons? an anaconda and a python?) named Fluffy and Muffin — I believe with another neighboring python named Cupcake. Clearly there is a sense of humor at work here. There’s a real variety of native and non-native species at the center, in a pleasantly strangely-laid-out building, along with a number of books and exhibits. It feels like a place a small number of quirky people care deeply for — it has personality. It also has some really nutty but sort of wonderful sculptures outside, and is at the convergence of several nature trails into the beautiful nearby parkland, which makes it a great jumping off point for further adventure. I’m very glad we’re neighbors, for our own sake and because we hope to have kids someday who would doubtless love and learn from the place.
