If you want every animal on the barn between 2pieces of bread this place is for you! So damn good! Be ready to wait. The locals know this as well… long lines at lunch time!

Would most definitely be a 5 star place if not for the cashier who had the personality of a wet dish rag. I do wish we lived closer so we could just get grab and go. Not a lot of seating inside, so 40 degrees and we scarfed it down outside!

This business was featured on Television and I can certainly see why because this place is fantastic. They have nice employees who work very hard to please the customers, and they have television so everyone who loves the game can watch while they dine in. Everything is fresh and very delicious for the value that you pay. I’ve gone to this place so many times to only come back again because you crave for the food and the service excellent. Your time to order is quick and pick-up is fast, too. This place has slot machines and quarter candy machine as well if you are looking for something sweet after eating. They get a lot of people from all over coming to this place because of the good food and service. Enjoy.

This place was awesome. Minus one star for pretty poor customer service. I ordered the BBB, my man got The Raven, and we shared some gravy fries. I really think the BBB(not on the menu) was one of the best sandwiches I have eaten. It is a delicious club sandwich comprised of pit beef, ham, bacon, mac&cheese, lettuce, toms, with tiger and bbq sauce. The Raven has pit beef, turkey, and corned beef. We both got our beef rare, obviously, wouldn’t do it any other way. Both sandwiches were perfection, it was nice having one with some sass and one that let the meat do the talking. The gravy fries were amazing and and the gravy was plentiful and delicious. A small was more than the two of us could handle, and we are prettttty serious eaters! Highly recommend, but really, I wouldn’t ask any questions at the counter. Customer service seems pretty poor if you don’t know your stuff. I mean, Guy ate here… so we should all know the menu and not waste anyone’s time… riiight???

Yes. Just yes. The sandwiches are enormous, and they are worth every calorie-ridden bite. The fries. Oh, the fries. So, so good. If you follow their Instagram page, you will be mesmerized by their sandwiches and will find yourself driving miles upon miles to sink your teeth into these juicy, meaty sandwiches. Yes, it’s in a rather interesting location, but your taste buds will thank you for making the trip that ends so close to a gentleman’s establishment.

I had the pleasure of going to this location last night for the first time. It was crowded because people were in there watching the football game. I came right in and was able to place my order in a short amount of time. The female cashier was very friendly. As I waited for my order to come up another customer had waste his drink. As he was about to clean it up himself one of the workers stated don’t worry about it. I will get it. It was nice to see employees display that type of attitude towards the job. Now to get to my food. I got the turkey sandwich that was so fresh. It came with the lettuce and tomato and I added the mayo onions and hots. Let’s just say I ate it so fast that I forgot to even take a photo. Can’t wait to return to this business. It was a complete pleasure.

4 stars. Chaps is a place you should visit at least once for the novelty, but I’m not sure if it’s the type of place I’ll come repeatedly(although my wife begs to differ). This visit, I brought my sister-in-law here since she was visiting Baltimore, and we always had a pretty good experience at Chaps Pit Beef before. The food: Try the Baltimore Bad Boys(not on the menu)! It’s massive and heart clogging but delicious. It’s filled with the pit beef, ham, bacon, mac and cheese(yes, I repeat, Mac and Cheese), and lettuce. All together, it’s a super filling double-decker sandwich(my wife calls this, the«A Taste of Jesus» Sandwich). I got the regular pit beef sandwich which is pretty good as well. Although a bit plain on its own, the sauces they provide definitely bring the sandwich to the next level. The service: Go up and order. Then get your food. Pretty straightforward and self serving. Foods come out rather quickly despite the crowd. Overall: Chaps Pit Beef is pretty good, although I did feel they were on the pricier side. Additionally, although the items were good, it’s not something I have cravings for. Chaps Pit Beef is probably somewhere I’ll visit only when bringing visitors to Baltimore… or when my wife needs«A Taste of Jesus» haha!

Chaps was absolutely delicious! I went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy. The service was super fast. I love how you can add your own condiments; everything looked clean and organized. The sandwich was fabulous and the meat was tasty and tender. I love mine with horseradish sauce and onions — super good. I would definitely come back again and I recommend you try!

A friend of mine is from Baltimore and I asked him about Pit Beef. He replied, «Dude it’s just a roast beef sandwich.» On the way to DC I purposely made a detour here to try it anyway. The place is no frills and shares a big parking lot with a strip club which I thought just added to the character of the place. I ordered the sandwich, rare with gravy fries on the side. After waiting a little bit my order was finished and I put horseradish and onions from the station they had to dress the sandwich. The gravy fries were just disappointing, it was basically just brown water over some fries. The sandwich? Well, I messaged my buddy and I let him know he was right. He just laughed and said ‘truth.’

This place screams BALTIMORE and I love everything about it.(Pit Beef, no frills atmosphere, on a highway, next to a strip club) I’ve lived in San Diego for almost 14 years, am originally from Baltimore… the bleed purple and orange type and always intend on stopping by Chap’s any time I’m in town visiting family. It’s been quite some time, but after telling the wife about Chap’s so frequently, I thought we had to make a special trip across town to introduce her to this East side staple.(She’s from Baltimore too and loves Pit Beef, but had never tried Chap’s) Boy, did they deliver. Even better than I remember. After waiting in line, we decided to order way more than we had initially intended. The wife got the standard Pit Beef, along with mac & cheese and I got a pit ham and beef combo with fries.(Don’t recall ever having pit ham before and it was delicious) The beef is so thinly sliced and the potato bun so soft, it literally melts in your mouth. I know cliché, but I couldn’t think of a better way to describe it. We added some tiger sauce of course and some BBQ. They have a whole assortment of sauces to choose from and you serve yourself, so take as much as you’d like. The ham is a sweet accompaniment to the salty beef and spicy tiger sauce. I would get it again. We drowned the freshly cut fries with the skins on in malt vinegar and dipped them in the various sauces. I could pass on the mac & cheese, but the wife wanted it and it’s really small, so it fills the need if you have it. I left 100% satisfied and enjoyed watching the diverse Baltimore population come together for their love of the hometown staple. Highly, highly recommend. Plus, the Gold Club is next door. What more could you ask for… I guess for it to be open.

Located in the corner of the world’s randomest parking lot, Chaps Pit Beef is a good spot to grab a nice meal. Nothing to look it as it is little more than a shack with a few tables lined up for dining, it is clearly a spot with many fans. The line was out the door when I arrived, the staff moves quickly and efficiently to take orders and dish them out to keep the line in check. I went with the beef sandwich, which the menu says is the best in Baltimore, as I don’t know if Baltimore is famous for beef, I’ll take their word that this means something. This beef was quite tasty, moist and a large portion, almost too much for the bun. While no extra sauce is needed, I went with the house BBQ for extra flavor and kick. Fries weren’t the best, not hot enough or fried hard enough for my likening. I wouldn’t order them moving forward but I would be back for many of the other items on their menu. They have a long list of BBQ favorites and I’m willing to try them all.

If you love the taste of tender smoked beef and you haven’t been to Chaps, you’re really missing out! I’ve been here a handful of times and they have never let me down! PROS: –BEEF: We always get the basic pit beef sandwich that comes with about half a pound of sliced beef on a soft roll. If they don’t ask, be sure to tell them what temperature you like your beef. One time we forgot to tell them ‘rare’ and we got a well done sandwich. It wasn’t bad, but the rare is just so much juicier. –Sauces: They have four different types of barbecue sauce, and TIGER sauce(creamy horseradish). There’s also pickles and hots that you can add to your sandwich. I highly recommend the barbecue sauce that is almost orange in color mixed with the tiger sauce. –Portion size: Just the beef sandwich with cheese is $ 8, but you really get your monies worth. I split a sandwich with my sister and it filled us up! –Service: I’ve been here when there was a line and also when there was NO line(Saturday at around 4pm). Even when there’s a line, it moves rather quickly so don’t be deterred if you see there’s a line out the door! –Location: Just drive east on Pulaski highway and you’ll know you’re there once you see the large Gold Club sign on the right(yep, that’s an adults only type of club…) I think it takes about 15 – 20 minutes from the mount vernon/downtown area depending on traffic. –Parking: We’ve never had problems finding parking and there’s a lot of spaces in the lot CONS: –I really can’t think of any cons except that I wish it was closer to my house. –Oh! If you plan to eat there, know that you WILL smell like barbecue afterwards so don’t wear any clothes that you aren’t okay with throwing into the laundry after the most delicious beefy meal ever.

Allow an extra 30 minutes after finishing your pit beef sandwich to stop at the dance club in the parking lot — if they’re not doing a free entry with chaps receipt, we’re talking a huge missed opportunity. I’ll keep this simple — I recommend the triple D sandwich… not because Guy Fieri’s stupid hair is staring you down in line, but because it’s got the pit beef plus corned beef plus you can take the sausage off and eat it on the side. Order your beef rare and you will see how it is truly a gift from the gods — similar to a juicy, raw roast beef slice. Condiments are impressive — my pick would be a dose of pickles, raw onion and horseradish with dabs of the house BBQ here and there for some highlights. The house and carolina BBQ are both good with the sausage.

Chaps has been featured on countless food shows so no need to get into that but their location is conveniently located next to a strip club! So beware… Their menu can come off as overwhelming because they have so many choices in numerous variations but as long as you know what kind of meat you want/don’t want, then you should make it through okay. Guy’s Triple D – Named after the Guido of the Food Network. It consists of beef, corned beef and sausage. A trifecta of meats all stuffed into a sub. All the meats were so mouther-wateringly juicy and extremely tender. The meat isn’t smoked, it’s a different kind of BBQ! Make sure you sample all of their sauces so you can hone in on which sauces will go best with your meal. I really enjoyed their house bbq sauce. It had a bit of a kick in it! The place is pretty divey but that’s when you know the food is going to be memorable. It’s a bit off the beaten path but it’s definitely worth the trek.

Chaps is my go-to place for pit beef and ribs. Nothing better than smoked and grilled meats, nothing. I could be wrong, but I think pit beef is uniquely Maryland. I had never had it until I moved to Baltimore. It’s served everywhere, even the O’s stadium. I never really enjoyed it until I got from Chaps. They have a plethora of unique sandwiches hot off the coals; there’s something for everyone. The ribs are delicious and tender. The test for me is when the meat doesn’t need sauce and theirs doesn’t. Although I really enjoy the gold(mustard based) sauce; its bottled(Cattlemen’s) but compliments the meat well. The chicken is fall off the bone tender and juicy. There’s a reason they were featured on Triple D!

So I always drive past this place but have never taken the time to stop in. I be seen chaos features in DD&D and heard good things so I decided to stop in. I was super hungry(isn’t this always the case) so decided to grab a sandwich. The line is bananas, but moves quickly. Because the woman taking the orders is a pretty great multitasker. I just wolfed down the Turkey Rachel I got. Really good. The turkey was very very well seasoned. And they pile it on thick! I think 9 dollars for a sandwich and no sides is steep. But again they like the meat on. I grabbed a bag of chips to eat with it, and while tasty, I think that ive hit my sodium intake max for the day. I would like to see some better specials but I’ll will come back.

When you take away crabs and all the famous seafood associated with Baltimore, you still have one well-known dish that is very identified with this city and that is Pit Beef. And no one serves up pit beef quite like Chaps. My review is serving as the 600th one for Chaps on Unilocal so I am hardly alone in stopping by this out-of-the-way spot. This food institution is a classic roadside dining shack with the best pit beef in all of Baltimore. And the condiments they provide for free are classic from the horse radish, tiger, and bbq sauces to the pickles, chilies, and onions. Hey even the mac & cheese is good here!

This place is amazing. I usually come here Sunday’s after an O’s game at the stadium. My to go meal is 1 pound of ribs(which is like 4 ribs) and macaroni n cheese. The ribs are so juicy and thick. You can pick your own sauce to put on them. They have a bunch of different sauces. The mac n cheese is so good. Compliments the ribs nicely. I haven’t tried anything else but it does look delicious. Helpful tips: It’s a small place and they get packed. Don’t expect to be in and out. Good things come to those who wait! You might not be able to sit at a table on really busy days. For some reason they don’t like the door open. So if there is a line expect to stand outside.

I’m seriously hooked I this place. From the popular pit beef, to the turkey and ham, to the corned beef, I have yet to be disappointed by the great flavors in these meats! I will say though, if you want medium rare beef(little bit of red), order it rare because they tend to give me medium when I order medium-rare. Even still, this place kicks butt! Tiger sauce must have been created by the gods because it is the most beautiful sauce I have ever tasted. Just do it. Then add more horseradish ;)

OK, thousands of people have written a review of this place so why bother right, wrong… I loved it! I had to find this place while out in Baltimore and despite not being in the best area it was well worth searching for. Once again thanks to Unilocal for the info and directions. I made it a late lunch on a day that was worth sitting outside for. I have seen this place on several shows and always wondered if it was really that good and it was. Great meat, well cooked(ordered my beef rare) and a really cool place. I got the Big D sandwich, named after DDD and it rocked. Shaved roast beef, Pit ham and sausage on a hoagie. I put on some of their homemade sauce and it couldn’t have been better. Well wait, it did get better. I could only eat half and after letting the second half sit for a few hours, once the bun had soaked up all that yummy juice it was even better. Take a drive over to this place if you’re driving through, or hell I think it would be worth the drive up if you were in DC for the week. It is worth driving for and writing about. KT

Chaps is basically a pit beef establishment located next to a gentlemen’s club and across the street from an adult video establishment. For most people this area might be trifecta of happiness. Meat, boobs, and porn it’s all there. Heck, there have times I would have contemplated dancing at the Gold Club just be be closer to the pit beef at Chaps. I would be the worst stripper the place had ever seen, men would go running home to their wives in droves. Basically I won’t dance, must remain fully clothed, would gladly slap anyone asking for a lap dance and after my tenure there management would have to enforce a «stop feeding the strippers sandwiches» rule because I would get all my coworkers hooked on pit beef and cheese fries and we would become fat kids together. Fries before guys, ladies!!! Anyways, speaking of fries, get the cheese fries. The gravy fries are good but messy to eat. They are literally a bunch of fries in a gravy soup. The tiger sauce(which will be my stripper name) here is amazing, you will want to saturate your meats with that because it is offered as a condiment. It’s a combo of horseradish and mayo, at least I think it’s mayo, I don’t know. Not sinus clearing spicy at all. Now onto the meats and stuff. So if you’re going for the classic pit beef that represents Baltimore’s Finest, go with the sandwich labelled as «Beef(Best in Baltimore)» for $ 7.50 on the menu. I know the menu has a ton of options and even if this sandwich seems puny compared to something like the Double D [sadly I can’t own this stripper name](½ LB Burger, Cheese, & Ham), this sandwich is a MEAL in itself. It’s so loaded with meat, you can’t really eat it like a sandwich, in fact I’ve never had the bread here because by the time I pour like a liter of tiger sauce on it, the bread is too soggy to eat. Another note, put pickles all over that ish too. The pickles here are homemade and rival anything you can find at a jewish deli. I always put even more pickles on the side. If you’re looking for a more complex sandwich, go with the subs. I have tried The Raven(Beef, Turkey, Corned Beef) and despite my dislike of frosted hair, Guy’s Triple D(Beef, Corned Beef, Sausage) is actually really good cause it has double BEEF. If you’re really really hungry and want a double decker beef sandwich with mac n’cheese in side, order the Baltimore Bad Boy Club(not on the menu). I will post a pic so you can check it out. Tiger sauce wants to buy two of them, one to eat… the other to rub all over her body Another note, when you’re waiting in line and yes there is always a line, the staff sounds kinda angry when they scream«Close The Door» on a cold day. It’s actually intimidating but once you approach the register they are actually super nice. Just place your order and walk over to the left to get your drinks, condiments and order. Also there is limited seating in the place so have a friend save a table while you wait in line. I love this little shack on Pulaski Highway. I can’t wait to go back. P. S. If my dad is reading this, just kidding about the stripper thing.

Chaps is a Baltimore institution featuring some of Baltimore’s best pit beef.(For those not in the know, pit beef is top roast, with minimal seasoning, charcoal grilled and thin slice, served on a roll. You then apply onion, horseradish, tiger sauce and –POW-!!) Chaps also serves up turkey, pork, ribs, and chicken. The menu board is a daunting combination of deliciously awesome meats arranged in a variety of combinations. Don’t worry if you can’t decide, as one of the wonderful staff working the window can talk you through. Be prepared to keep the conversation going, as they’re extra friendly. Chaps has featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and there’s a good reason — it’s terrific on many levels. It’s the place to bring friends new to Baltimore to fill up before exploring the city.
