From the eclectic collection to the knowledgeable staff, Charlotte Elliot brings Hampden’s «Avenue» a unique treasure that is absolutely worth your time. It’s clear down to the tiny details that Charlotte Elliot is a labor of love; strike up a conversation with any staff member to find out. Great for creative gifts, retro jewelry, dresses, african artwork, and lots more. Just be sure to pay the pug toll for good karma.

Probably one of the most amazing stores to greet the Avenue in Hampden. I have watched this store grow and become its own land mark. The owners and shop management are very endearing and strong in community development and support. I can not say enough positive words about this shop and its management. If you are looking for antiques this is the place to go and if they dont have it they have no problem pointing you in the right direction locally to get it.

Antique stores are a dime a dozen on the the Avenue, the main artery of this eccentric little neighborhood. How do you separate the good from the blah? It’s really hard to tell from the outside since most shops have attractive displays that look similar to one another, but you’ll know you’re in for something special once you step past the Charlotte Elliott’s threshold. Immediately upon entering, you are greeted by the super friendly and sweet owners, who named the business after their son and daughter. They are so willing to help, without being overly attentive(not the shopkeepers who follow you around everywhere as if you’re about to lift something). They seem genuinely interested in helping you find what you’re looking for(or looking for without knowing you’re looking for). While the store contains everything under the sun, it seems – antique furniture spanning many eras, vintage CDs, sterling silver flatware, home décor – I was there for the jewelry. I was on a quest to find an interesting statement necklace to brighten my monochromatic and humdrum work attire. Charlotte Elliott’s jewelry for sale is either displayed under a glass case(the pricier stuff) or hung on different organizers in that vicinity. As I perused their merchandise, I heard the proprietors talking to one another, rattling off different pieces made from popular materials such as cloisonné. They clearly know their stuff, which I guess one would hope they do since they’re in this business. Sadly, not everyone who sells antiques really knows what they’re selling… Anyway, after telling the missus what I wanted, she showed me a few pieces. They were lovely, but not within my budget, so I told her, and guess what! She showed me a beautiful pearl necklace that was marked higher than i was willing to spend and said she’d reduce the price for me. So hey, you can get a good deal! I was thrilled. Not promising that the owner(s) will strike a similar deal for you, but the point of this story is that the owners are willing to work with your budget. If you tell them, I’m only willing to spend X amount, they’ll try to find something that falls under that limit. They also have a sister used bookstore next door. Definitely check that out, too, if you have the time.

One of the best stores in Hampden and definitely my favorite for treasure hunting! Antiques and interesting items from all over the world combined with the attached«Bookstore Next Door» with an amazing collection of titles! Aside from the wonderful inventory, the staff is exceptionally knowledgable, helpful, and friendly — even the cute Pug dog! Well, he’s not terribly knowledgable, but he’s friendly! I would definitely recommend them for décor, conversation starters, and unique gifts.

This place is like a black hole… but a good one. A black hole full of wonderful, interesting things that just keeps going on and on! There are separate sections throughout this place: clothes, books, housewares, etc but also pretty much anything under the sun. Like Beanie Babies, the Hard Rock Café one from LA. That’s irrelevant but you get the point! Next time I have some extra cash, I’d love to come back and seriously search for a treasure because some of that stuff doesn’t come cheap!

Miss Charlotte! Girl, you have been hiding a whole lot of cool stuff behind that simple awning! WOWZA! I walked into Charlotte Elliott for the first time this week and couldn’t believe everything there. It was like a hybrid between a small Avenue Antiques and a really awesome vintage clothing and accessory story. I was honestly a bit scared for myself. All I could think was, «This place is about to take all my money and I am actually really looking forward to it!» LOL! I will say some of the items are a bit high in price. I know they are hard to find items and some will pay it, but there were a couple of items I wanted to get but didn’t think they should be that high. Now if here is a sale… lol! Make sure you go downstairs to check out all the clothes and the awesome hats and, if you are in the market for Christmas décor, there is a beautiful ivory nativity scene on the middle floor that is just exquisite! Service-wise, Charlotte the owner is super sweet and knowledgeable about everything in her store and prides herself upon having great quality items. You can find everything to dress up yourself or your home here with unique, one-of-a-kind items. Very impressed. Will definitely be back — on pay day! lol!

This shop is a great destination if you’re looking for something specific from a certain era, and it’s also one of the best places to kill an hour of your time on 36th St. I can’t believe how much stuff they have in there — the place is definitely Bigger On The Inside. They have four levels of art and antiques, and they have everything, you name it — old books, world art(some of it pretty ancient), chess sets, china and silverware, jewelry, musical instruments, and amazing period clothing.(The old furs are crazy.) Browsing through this shop is like walking through a museum, except that stuff is all over the place and you’re allowed to poke at it. It’s like visiting my grandparent’s house when I was a kid, times a thousand. The staff are great. It’s a family business — husband, wife, and daughter, I think? The daughter is an expert on old clothing and costuming. I went shopping there for a «Great Ratsby» 1920’s Baltimore themed party, and she told me exactly what I needed and showed me where everything was. The old man is well-educated, well-read, and very cool, and he will talk to you about everything for as long as you want. Definitely one of my favorite places in Hampden. I always make sure to stop in here when I have out-of-town visitors, and my visitors are never disappointed.
