AH-MAY-ZING. Seriously, who knew? And I can’t even thank Unilocal for this find… my discovery of this mansion’s existence is due to TripAdvisor where there were few reviews but all very positive. I’ve seen two Newport mansions, I’ve been to Hillwood in DC, but I must say that this might be my favorite richy-rich home yet. Before I tell you why it’s so cool, a couple of practical notes: *you can visit the interior only via guided tour, and those begin on the hour. Our tour lasted a bit over an hour. *if you are a JHU student, staff or faculty member or alumni, you get in for free! *if you are JHU alum and have such ID, admission is $ 5. *otherwise admission will set you back only $ 8. *if coming from the DC area, you might want to take the north way in as opposed to driving through most of the city of Baltimore. This place is called Evergreen Museum and Library because you’ll be able to admire dozens and dozens of pieces of art — everything from Tiffany lamps and vases to Raoul Duffy’s paintings to a Picasso and a Diego Rivera, and the amazing collection of 30,000 books, including many rare and very valuable ones. The families which lived in the home led interesting lives(one fellow as a diplomat who was posted in many places around the world), and the docent will fill you in all sorts of interesting details and factoids about them, the house, the items they collected. Combine this with dinner at one of Baltimore’s many great restaurants, and you’ve got yourself a wonderful daytrip.

Cinderella would be jealous of brides who have their wedding here. Evergreen House Museum’s grounds are truly the stuff of storybooks — perfectly manicured lawns, sculpted bushes, and regal architecture. Tucked away from the traffic on Charles, it’s secluded enough to make you feel like you are in the country somewhere, but close enough that your guests can get to and from anywhere within the city with ease. It’s the perfect place for an outdoor wedding or dinner party and the staff there is incredibly helpful and hardworking. Although I wasn’t able to get a chance to tour the museum, I did peak in and, from the little I did see, it was cute, quaint, and definitely worth popping back in with the hubs for a weekend visit. If you are planning a wedding or special event, by all means, DO check out the Evergreen Museum. For you, it’ll provide the memories and for your guests, something to talk about!
