Taste This Balt

Wanted soul food so I decided to try this place out, I called in my order fried catfish with greens and sweet potatoes, fried pork chop with greens and sweet potatoes and Parmesan buffalo Wings. I called my order in probably about 15 – 20 mins before I arrived. I entered the store around 8pm maybe 815pm I remember this because I was trying to get to another store for my potato salad since they don’t sell it. I left my daughter in the car I figured 20 minutes at the most and I would be on my way. When I got there I stood in a pretty long line but it was moving. I paid for my food which wasn’t done when I got there I could understand why it was very busy there. So I waited and waited and waited about 45 minutes later they called my number. They show your food there before they put in the bag excellent idea because my food was wrong I think I almost wanted to cry, so the girl said you want me to get them to change probably no because you’ve already been here along time and at first I was going to take it but it wasn’t for me. I waited an additional 15 mins for a fried pork chop with no gravy. So all in all one hour for food. I guess I’ll start with my observation first it seem that my food was ready way before my number was called it seem to be confusion and they constantly looking in the food to see what’s in it with the receipts on top of the boxes. How I knew it was my food sitting there cause I watched and when I was bought my food it was sitting there I couldn’t understand why they didn’t know that. Ok so I finally got my right food ordered a drink and it was given to me for free I guess for my hour wait. After the wait I was looking forward to this food. I got to my car my daughter said I thought you were kidnapped. We got home, the food was ok not worth my wait. I will defiantly not eat there again especially because they are slow as hell. Nothing special about it.

Ive tried this place 4 different times, even its newer location and my attempts have been unsuccessful 3 of those four times. The one time i was able to make a purchase the food was just ok and the customer service was a problem as well as it seemed like everyone in the restaurant from staff to consumer had an attitude. Every other attempt was unsuccessful due to customer service issues. My rating is based on the decent food and the consistently sub-​par customer service i experienced on each visit. I wish i could give this place a better rating but the customer service needs major improvement.

Try the crab Mac and cheese, honey old bay wings, smothered pork chops & chicken and waffles. Even better… swap out the waffle for white choc pancakes. Great cheat day meal. Just call ahead at least 30 – 45 minutes, esp on weekends as just about everything is cooked to order.

Delicious food, try the spice chicken, wings and waffles. Wait time can be long just call ahead.

I had read an article in the Sun about a second location opening up in Charles Village and the overview of their menu in the article really increased my desire for some stick to your ribs soul food. Unfortunately, my desires were left unfulfilled for a while, until one fateful day (last Saturday) I was driving down Harford road, and realized I had just driven by the original location. After making a sharp U-​turn, I parked right in front of the building and decided in that moment that I had no choice but to give into my needs for delicious food.
As far as the space goes, its pretty bare bones. Just a counter and some stools off to the side. After being slightly overwhelmed by the choices available to me (because literally everything sounded delicious) I went with one of the recommendations from the menu, the Catfish Po’ Boy. And because no meal would be complete without a side, I ordered a side of collard greens. I was quickly informed that there were no collards that day, but they had prepared cabbage instead, so I quickly switched my order to that.
From there I settled in and waited in anticipation of my meal. As other reviews have said, the wait was long (about 15 – 20 minutes), though since everything was prepared then and there, it really wasn’t a big deal. Next time I would probably call my order in, but at the same time the wait was not super long, and the food when it arrived more than made up for it.
I wish I had taken a picture of this sandwich. Unfortunately I had already eaten half of it when I came to that realization. This was art on a bun. It wasn’t fancy, and it wasn’t haute cuisine, but it was absolutely awesome. Perfectly fried fish, in a ridiculously large portion for a cheap price covered in condiments. As I write this I want to relive the whole experience again, because it was a revelation. The cabbage was a highlight as well, and I gobbled it up with enthusiasm.
Call ahead or come prepared to wait, but either way make sure you eat here, because their food is literally the best cure for this cold weather.

I went to this place a couple of times and the food is good it’s a little wait but it’s worth it so stop by and decide for yourself

I came across «Taste This» on Unilocal while looking for somewhere close. At first I was discouraged by reviews about the wait time. But the pictures tempted me to give them a try. I called and the phone was answered on the second ring by a very polite young lady. She took my order and told me it would be ready in 15 min. I got to carry out in 20 minutes and yes my food was ready. She opened each container and showed me the food and it looked very tasty. But the surprise was when I got my fork into my container. Scrumptious stuffed salmon, baked chicken and ceasar salad. We are so pleased with the taste, quality and amount of food they gave us for a reasonable price and we will be ordering again.

Everything I had here is delicious. The honey old bay wings, the baked potatoes, turkey wings, pork chops, Mac and cheese, greens… everything is seriously good. This location is small and gets busy so call ahead. If you want soup food with a Baltimore twist, call them!

This place definitely lived up to the reviews. I ordered the stuffed salmon with a side of Mac and cheese and green beans. I like salmon but it is not something I usually order out. Based on the photos I had to give it a try. It was cooked to perfection– not tough or chewy. The crab meat that was used for the stuffing was not very prominent but all the flavors combined (especially the sauce and the rice) worked together really well and the string beans were delicious. The mac and cheese was okay. There are so many different ways to «do» mac and cheese so I don’t hold it against them that it wasn’t my favorite method (I prefer it a bit creamier). They also use a lot of sharp cheddar so there isn’t a lot of balance in flavor. It’s not something I would order again.
I tried to call in advance because I read the wait times can be excessive. I tried calling several times but kept getting a busy signal– very disappointing. So I went to the location and orders and went to the store while my food was prepared. I returned about 30 minutes later and it was waiting for me so I can’t say exactly how long it took. From what I could tell the sides are already pre made and the entrees are cooked to order.
I will definitely be back and try something different on the menu.

Taste This is a locally owned soul food restaurant serving up authentic soul food options such as turkey wings with all of the usual sides (potato salad, greens …). With good prices, fresh food, and decent customer service they’re sure to be around for a while!

Had to call on him cuz the food was so good. Thoroughly enjoyed my Taste This lunch today. My food looked amazing and tasted like a dream. I love the attention to detail and I definitely don’t mind waiting 20 min for perfection like that. But now that I know better I will call in my order. Greats prices, great product, so when are yall comin to DC?

Awe shit excuse my language but, don’t get me started. This food so good Yu might consider slapping yo momma !!! Lawdd angELS must had cooked in this kitchen. Cuz damn this food good! customer service not all that but shoot I’ll put up with the devil him self to come back! Lol
The wait time is a little long but that’s cuz they’re unusually busy I think they must use crack in their ingredients cuz I’m hooked

It took forever to get our food, as it appears that they cook to order (the proteins, anyway) so the food was hot even after a 30 minute drive home. I didn’t care for the sides (Mac and cheese and greens) much. I could have made them better at home. This has been the trend at other local soul-​food spots that have been popping up lately. My fish was good. I wish it had come with some sauce, like tartar sauce. My husband had the fried chicken, same sides. He said it was good. Not sure we would visit again. Logistically speaking, it wasn’t tasty enough to make the troop.

Yum. Stopped for breakfast and loved the home fries. Part white and part sweet potato. They also offered turkey sausage and turkey bacon.

Absolutely amazing! I had family visiting and we were trying to decide what we should have for dinner when I remembered seeing posts about Taste This. We decided to give it a try and were NOT disappointed. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious! We will definitely be back!

Finally checked this place out this past weekend. We called to order, since I read that wait times can take about an hour at times. I called around 12:30p on a Saturday afternoon and was told our food would be ready in 15 minutes. Great! My boyfriend had the crab dog, which was 2 beef hot dogs topped with crab meat/​mac and cheese/​bacon/​and special sauce.
I had the stuffed salmon platter with mac and yams as sides. BE CAREFUL! The stuffing, was actually just a topping of crab meat and mac and cheese and special sauce. I am allergic to large doses of crab meat. So i actually just scrapped the topping/​stuffing off.
If I order again from here, i’ll have to ASK what is actually in the stuffing and on the food items. We didn’t expect there to be bacon on the crab dog either because the pics from TASTE THIS fb page didn’t mention bacon, but did everything else.

The menu is impressive. You can tell by the food, that someone in there knows how to cook, but they’re cutting corners. For instance, the crab mac & cheese had regular crab meat ON TOP of it, with more shredded cheese micro-​melted on top of that. And we ordered chicken wings and got chicken wingETTES. Really?
Also I waited 35 minutes for our order. It’s a carry-​out place! I heard that they were slow, but I thought people were exaggerating. Then, I read other Unilocal reviews and even more people are saying the same thing. I hope the managers/​owners read their Unilocal
reviews, because TRUST when I tell you, the wait times are costing you business. Not only do people say they won’t return, others have said they don’t even want to try this restaurant in the first place because they do not want to wait.
Update 10/​16/​2015: Wait times have slightly improved! Service with a smile. My co-​workers love Taste This! The food is still yummy. I absolutely CRAVE the catfish and their smothered pork chops in my sleep. I give this place an extra star. :)

Came here before the snow on Saturday (Feb 21^st). I had tried their potatoes (Federal Hill and Harbor East) at an event. Despite the weather, and maybe even because of the weather the place was packed. Its a small space and to be honest its always packed lol. Anyway, they serve breakfast until noon on Saturdays but they don’t serve lunch until after 12. So if you want a sandwich, check your watch.
I got there around 11:25 wanting a po boy. The girl at the counter sweetly informed me that I could only order breakfast. I got the chicken and waffles. The food was delicious! Chicken was seasoned well and perfectly crisp; expertly fried. The breakfast potatoes are absolutely delicious with onions, peppers, white and sweet potatoes.
The down side is that the service is super slow! I mean I am a fan of fresh cooked food but surely there is a way to prep the food so that it takes less than 30 minutes per order. I could have made the same food at home in that amount of time. The wait time is not enough for me to stay away but I will call in my order and my guess is that if they shorten those wait times the following would grow! The food is four stars maybe even five on a good day but the service is three stars.
