Great place to go for fish fry on Friday nights. The bluegill is excellent. Bartenders are very knowledgeable about beer and the tap list and bottle assortment is excellent. Only reason it does not get 5 stars is that the service can be a bit slow at times.

Great place! Sitting out on the deck in the summer time under a giant weeping willow tree reminds me of being in the South. We ordered the sweet potatoe fries and they were awesome! Crispy sweet but still relatively simple. They’re only 4 bucks, so give them a try! Her entrée was the tator tot melt with Au Jus sauce. It was very tasty! Just a little salty, very savory and a good pretzel bun. She had the waffle fries and they were very well done as well. I had the Rowdy Rueben and it was really tasty. It’s literally a burger with a rueben sandwich as the topping. I do admit i didn’t taste the burger that much, but I think that’s because the rest of the sandwich is so flavorful. The chips were excellent! I wouldn’t have changed anything about the things we got. Our waitress was also really nice and brought us a sample of a couple beers to see what we wanted. 5 out of 5 for me. It’s great to see a place like this in an agricultural part of America. Someone who works there clearly cares about putting out great food at a food price and servicing the local community. We would just about travel back into the area just to go here again.

Sat for 20+ minutes without being waited on. A waitress finally came to wait on a table that sat down after we did so we left.

We picked here for a laid back feel. We had spent the day at Devil’s Lake and wanted to sit outside and enjoy some good food. Upon walking in, there was no one to greet you but even the workers we saw didn’t offer up where to sit or if we should wait to be seated. When I asked someone who looked like a bus boy if we can sit anywhere he was very rude! He barely even looked at us and seemed completely irritated that we spoke to him at all. I almost walked out right then but I kept my hopes high. We sat ourselves on the patio and we were greeted almost immediately, given menus and then everything slowed down again. It was over ten minutes before we ordered, including drinks. I am hoping they were super busy and our waitress was doing the best she could because she really was nice. As slow as the service was at times she was very nice and helpful when she was there. We tried the mozzarella sticks, which I have to recommend due to their unique coating. It looked as though they were wrapped up in won tons maybe? Crisp and delicious. My burger was a good burger. My husband ordered a small meal, a 5 oz filet, and boy was it tiny. It came out well done. Not how he ordered it at all and considering how long this process had already taken he didn’t want to ask for another one cooked correctly. He said it had a bad shellfish taste that just got worse as he went. We did like sitting by the big willow trees on the patio but hopefully they are going to put some soft lighting out there. As the sun went down we realized it was going to get dark quick and there was only a street light in the parking lot. A string of lights around the railing would have been nice. Unfortunately we talked to others and our experience wasn’t the only bad one that night. Hopefully it was just an off night…

First time there. I loved my food, it was delicious! ! I got the petite filet, my mother shared ribs that were falling off the bone, my father had petite prime rib. Everything was reasonably priced and very tasty for the trip we made. Traveling across the ferry was s trip for us, but we’ll worth the wait.

Perfect after a long-day of hiking at Devil’s Lake. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed beers and ciders from their extensive selection. The weather was perfect. The food was good– fried cod, ribs, potatoes. The salad bar could have been better– needed restocking and the lettuce was mostly iceberg. The best part of this restaurant was the service and the atmosphere. On the patio, kids(and adults) could play on the rope swings or in the yard while waiting for food. The waitress was attentive, but she didn’t rush us. Living in Chicago where I sometimes feel like I’m supposed to pay the bill as I’m taking my last bite, it was nice to sit and relax without feeling pressured to leave. It was a nice addition to my vacation.

I would have given this place three stars except for the noise level. The performer was way too loud. Everyone was yelling over him. The salad bar was average. My husband enjoyed his ribeye. My prime rib was tough and bland. We would have stayed longer and thought about having dessert but the music was too annoying.

Went on a weekday around noon, as I needed lunch and was enticed through reviews online. Only a few customers, much less than expected. Have a great bottled beer selection, was impressed. Menu had a fair amount of things I would try, so can see myself going back. Tzatzki sauce is pretty runny, probably my only complaint. Staff very friendly, welcoming, and laid back. I felt unpressured to hurry along, and enjoys the atmosphere. Would go back again and bring some friends to introduce them to a new gem. They dont have a website, but I found menus online at

Girlfriend and I went here based on Unilocal. She ordered half a sandwich and portobello French onion soup. Got a full sandwich and upon asking why was told they don’t do halves. This would have been useful info while ordering. The soup was mostly croutons. The sandwich mostly bread. My mixed greens salad was mostly iceburg. Little chicken. Service beyond noticeably slow.

Being in the Dells area again this year, we immediately headed to The Barn to see if our five-star experience last year held up.(Well, not immediately — we called ahead for reservations. Trust me – if you don’t want to wait an inordinate amount of time for a table, one quick phone call will save you lots of waiting.) Not only did they come right back with five-star dining, they added four words to their menu which are making me think about retiring to this area. Bacon-wrapped Tater Tots. I mean, what’s left to wish for? Seriously. These guys have great dining in the groove — an insane beer selection, a menu that you just cannot go wrong with, and smiling faces all around.

This place is a diamond disguised as a run-down barn. Especially after dark, this place is not all that inviting, in fact it’s a bit creepy. But don’t let that deter you from parking and walking in. The staff was very welcoming and they served until 9PM on the Sunday night we were there. They food was pretty decent. 3 of us ordered prime rib sandwiches of one kind or another… shaved. Honestly they were a bit disappointing. They all came with aus ju that was way too salty for me. One of us ordered the Mediterranean chicken sandwich which was a-mazing! Their sweet potato fries were delicious and looked homemade. Their homemade chips were also quite delicious. The fried cheese curds were not like the state-fair, but a nice fix just the same. A nice children’s menu with solid choices. Child friendly restaurant with a great staff. I should have gotten the salad bar with my meal, it looked fresh and good. Well worth the drive over here away from all the chain restaurants that surround the local attractions. You will feel like you are driving into the middle of nowhere but trust your GPS and keep going. I’m sure we will be here again when we are in the area. Next time I think I will get the chicken or a burger or just the prime rib sandwich without the shaved meat. It just didn’t seem like there was a whole lot of the shaved stuff on the three we ordered.

The Barn had been on my radar for years, and only recently was I able to visit there. It definitely did not disappoint. The idyllic country road location is great for spending an afternoon on the patio overlooking the rolling green hills outside of Devil’s Lake State park. Everything about the place is quirky and unique, from the odd yet friendly regulars to the barn structure of the builiding itself. A really cozy vibe here, with panoramic windows behind the bar open to the sprawling countryside view mentioned earlier. Beer selection was very extensive, and well organized by style. The eight taps were a little random, but something for everyone, the current craft gems were Expedition Stout and Lake Louie Apricot Goddess, in addition to Port Huron Honey Blonde(brewed with locally sourced honey from Mt. Horeb), Pyramid Apricot, a cider, Blue Moon Agave Wheat, and a couple others. Bottle list had some cellared gems like Louie’s Reserve and Bourbon County. I’m not sure how quick the turnover is here, so be sure to ask what’s new. John was the bartender, and a really interesting guy to talk to. He was a recent Chicago transplant, but had lots of tips on the local scene, including the upcoming Fermentation Fest in Reedsburg, the Farm/Art DTour, and Dr. Evermor’s Forevertron(which is a must see if you’re in the area). My glass was never empty, and the conversation was great. The Barn also hosts an annual charity homebrew competition and BBQ/beer tasting event, Brew At The Barn. Food wise, the cheese curds were good, and came with a very addictive spicy ranch sauce. Overall a great experience, i’ll be back to bring the family in for dinner on the next vacation visit. It’s only 15 – 20 minutes from the Dells area, so if you need to escape, this is the #1 choice. 2015: Patio service was very slow. It wasn’t busy, but there was a long wait for everything. One waitress was working 3 – 5 tables, and she would go inside for each individual thing, instead of checking on all the tables, writing things down, and then bringing out a tray of drinks/plates. Instead they came out one at a time, with a long wait between each one. This was the only down side, the food was great, especially the ribeye sandwich.

LOVEDTHISRESTAURANT! It’s so close to Devils Lake and we were so surprised and excited to find out that they could make almost anything on the menu gluten free. It can be hard to find celiac friendly restaurants and this one was amazing! The beer list was incredible and offered various gluten free beers and ciders! Loved the patio seating and we are every last bite of the prime rib sandwich! Will definitely be back again!

Looking to stay away from the insanity up at the Dells? Come to Baraboo! The Barn is off the beaten path, but you can count on craft beers on tap and great food. I visited late on a summer Friday night and the place was in full swing. Open tables were still available, the bar chatter was lively, and fish fry on the menu. The live music for the night was guitar player, who belted out sing-along standards that pleased the crowd. The menu options were wide, especially given the size. Their steak was great. And more avante garde was the tater tot shaved prime rib. I’ll put that out there again: Tater Tot Shaved Prime Rib. Served au jus with cheddar on a pretzel roll. You know that you’re in Wisconsin when these things converge on the same plate. I loved my trip here and I’ll be back again. It’s just steps from my favorite motel in the area — The Willowood Inn. It’s just up the road from Devil’s Lake for after a long day of hiking. Heck, I’ll be here for pretty much any excuse I can find!

Like you, I found this spot atop Unilocal for breakfast joints near Baraboo. I really liked the atmosphere, expedient service, and the thermos of coffee for refills they left on our table. The so called«melted cheese sauce» was strange, but everything else was well above your average diner’s breakfast. The toast was exceptional, event the«gluten-friendly» bread(which is an ironic name for an item made for people that are surely NOT friends with gluten). Overall: reasonably priced, pleasant experience, and somewhere I’ll stop by again next time I’m hungry before noon in Baraboo.

Great American fare all around. Nice beer selection, waiters who care and are proud of the food, food that tasted great, homey friendly atmosphere. There was a guy singing with his guitar on Friday night. We had the 6 piece blue gill fish fry and turkey burger with blue cheese and grilled mushroom. They have many potato sides to choose from: we got red potatoes and sweet potato wedges, both were great!

I loved the atmosphere, view, location and the beer selection. In fact, the conversation at the fully+ occupied bar made us feel like regulars despite it being our first visit. We didn’t eat here so I really cant give it a five star rating without even having tried the food. However, I do plan on making several trips back and will update accordingly :)
