These guys are affiliated with the Top Hat Fireplace in Madison. As far as I know, this is where all the service guys are dispatched from. We have had them do maintenance on our two gas fireplaces for several years and have always loved their attention to detail, cleanliness and honesty. The woman who handles scheduling is also a pleasure to deal with. I give both this place and their sister store in Madison 5 stars!

I’m not sure how our project was so botched, since this business has a good reputation. Things didn’t start out perfectly — hard to get a hold of the contact person there, and a plainly false reason for why the quote was 15% higher than two initial estimates. But the unacceptable part was the installation itself. The first attempt got the stove in the wrong place, and had a heat shield jimmy-​rigged because the proper shield was too inconvenient to install. The second attempt had a handful of fire code violations. The third attempt got things right, but only after a lot of hair pulling on my part. I never did get a good explanation of why the job went so poorly.
