I was on a road trip from Yosemite to Death Valley and Vegas. I was coming back from Vegas to LA when we decided to stop in Barstow for a lunch. Just before stopping, I had a heat exhaust and felt really bad. We stopped in this small local place and ordered a lunch with burger and other good stuffs. The staff saw I was really bad and the lady offered me a cold towel to put on my head. She asked if everything was ok and was really cool. Overall the place was clean and the food really good. This is a family place so do not expect a fashion LA decoration. I will remember this place as welcoming with a very human staff and a good food. Thank you!

So coming back home from Vegas decided to stop at a Mexican restaurant. Using handy dandy Unilocal directed me to this restaurant. It’s in the middle of no where. Dark streets. Place looked closed down. Waste of gas and time.

Excellent home style food and wonderful friendly staff. Just finished one of the best chile rellenos I’ve ever had.

Terrible food. The rice and beans were awful. They took my credit card to the back to make a transaction. Seemed kind of sketchy. The place was dirty

Never judge a book by its cover. Plata’s is damn good. Bean and cheese burritos are to die for. I dunno what they do to them but they are amazing. Carne asada tacos are great. The salsa yum. The prices are great notnover priced at all. The breakfast burrito is great bacon or sausage. Just all around great food. You must stop by next time in town!!! Staff always friendly. Its a family favorite with us.

The worst fake Mexican food in town the corn tortillas are nasty. I will definitely not be back and will not recommend anyone else it definitely has to be a local borne and raise in Barstow thing to like this place

I grew up just up the street from this place and would regularly come here to eat while delivering newspapers as a kid. I no longer live in the area but my family is still in Barstow and my girlfriend also works in Lenwood. To this day, I still regularly stop at one of the Plata’s locations(usually this one) when I drive up for a visit. My girlfriend also frequently stops in after work to get me my favorite(quesadilla w/pork, extra hot) before coming back down to our place. As mentioned by others, most people who aren’t from the area will most likely pass Plata’s right by and never even think about turning around. This particular location is the original one. This place is so memorable that I once had a random person ask me about Plata’s when I told them I grew up in Barstow. Important info: anything you order can be made with any degree of spicy that you ask for. You can tell them you want your burrito«plain»(no spice at all), or anything else(mild, medium, hot, extra hot, extra extra hot, etc.). If anything on the menu is too spicy — or not spicy enough — for you, it’s your own fault for not requesting the spice level that is best for your own taste. They also make their own tortillas fresh. I remember seeing plenty of people come in just for the tortillas(so they can use them for their own home cooking) when I was younger. I’d imagine it’s still the same now. I used to always eat the bean & cheese burritos as a kid but I eventually got hooked on the quesadillas. I will just say that the quesadillas are HUGE and delicious. You’ll definitely get a lot more from a quesadilla here than you’ll get from a typical Del Taco. You can even get your choice of meat in it too. It’s still a family-owned chain. The couple that runs this particular location today is very friendly. I’ll never stop going to Plata’s!

What a find on our way to Utah — the mixed carnitas were tastefully cooked with a fresh onion and tomato sauce with a bit of a kick — great friendly and welcoming hosts. Do not drive by and if you do turn around.

Food is delicious, and staff is always talkative and friendly. My only beef, is the atmosphere. Yes it’s Barstow, so don’t hate me for this, but Plata’s really needs a facelift both internally and externally. I wouldn’t bring my family or kids there, but I usually head on over during lunch break so that’s never an issue. It’s never the cleanest, but the food is yummy that I keep on returning. Try the veggie burrito.

have eaten at all 3 of the Plata’s in Barstow, the one in Lenwood is heads and shoulders above the others. I used to live in San Diego and I let some friends try some platas bean and cheese burritos I brought back, long story short I would end up with an order for over a hundred of these when I would come home. I moved to China and I got 70 of them, vaccuum sealed and freeze them, and they are still the best darn Bean and Cheese anywhere. Not the best at everything else, but bean and cheese, yeah you cannot touch them!!! Grandview Representin!

Oh Platas… How I wish I were eating a bean, cheese and potato burrito or some tacos right now or even that double cheeseburger you make– but I digress. Ok so I literally grew up around the corner from here and on many a night my parents would pull in to pick up a quick dinner to go. Even as an adult I stop here every time Im in town and stuff my face with delicious cooked to order authentic mexican fare. They make it when you order it and serve fresh in house made salsa and flour chips while you wait. I agree with the other person who said that Platas is kind of on the DL. If you know about it you probably grew up in Barstow and know how amazing it is but if you don’t you’ll probably drive right by one of Barstows best homegrown chains.
