This is quite a nice little local history museum in downtown Bastrop. For such a small town it’s really quite comprehensive, with displays of artifacts, video recordings and even Bastrop’s first motorized fire engine! The lady running the desk was extremely welcoming and informative. You can pick up all sorts of informational handouts and fliers about the goings-on in Bastrop, Smithville and so on. Really worth a visit if you are in town!

We stopped by this«appeared to be small from the outside» museum without much expectation. We were thinking that it would be just another local historical museum. It was Saturday morning and we were the first visitors for the day. We were greeted by a super friendly lady. She first showed us the video which was produced by local residents(very impressive!). Since the movie is targeted for school kids, it is a bit cheesy with a sense of humor. The museum itself is larger than we expected. It contains a lot of historical artifacts for Bastrop county. The lady was able to answer all of my questions. Another real gems about this place are the postcards from the 70s which you can purchase. Some local resident donated those and the money go to the museum. My wife and I had a good time here.
