My husband and I moved to the area and found this local gem. Previously, I had just gone to Costco and Walmart for my optometry needs because it was a cheaper alternative to a full-on optometrist office. My experience at those places ranged from mediocre to fairly good. I’ve worn glasses since high school and I never realized what it meant to have a great optometry experience until I came to A Couple of Eyes. I first came with my husband for his first visit with Dr. Shih. He was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. It was clear he knew what he was doing and he gave very honest feedback. We left knowing we liked the place. The following month, I had my first appointment with Dr. Fan and I was absolutely blown away by the level of customer service and passion. Dr. Fan found that I had an odd looking optic nerve. I’ve been told this before by all of my other optometrists, but they’ve all just said they’ll keep an eye on it. Dr. Fan said she wanted a closer look at it and went in to take pictures of the back of my eyes. Not only did she explain to me what exactly was odd about my nerve, she showed me photos of other optic nerves to compare it to. She sat down with me(and took time out of her lunch!) to discuss in detail the intricacies of the eye and how mine compared. She explained what the test was for and what it divulged to her. She really went above and beyond. All these years I had optometrists telling me something was weird about my eye, but not a single one stopped to tell me what it was and why it was important to keep an eye on. I care a lot about customer service because a doctor that cares is a doctor that will help you when you really need it. I might be okay now, but if anything were to change, I’d have complete trust in Dr. Fan and Dr. Shih. That’s something money can’t buy. And to top it all off, they have a great selection of modern frames with nose pads! As an Asian American with a very small nose bridge, that’s a big deal. I would recommend this office to anyone in a heartbeat!

Pros: Very friendly, will see you as an emergency, polite, very knowledgeable, courteous, great selection of frames. Cons: None, and I am super picky, esp in regard to customer service! I found this place when I had an eye issue on a weekend. I called my original(no longer!) eye Dr and they were closed. Called around to a few places in the area, none of them could see me. But when I called Couple of Eyes, the receptionist was wonderful. She agreed that the symptoms I was noticing were a problem. Then she spent a little time trying to figure out how to squeeze me into their schedule. Could I come in in 10 min? Absolutely. The Dr. I saw, Dr. Shih, was great. Interestingly, I had seen my other optometrist just the week before for my annual eye exam. He mentioned that I should use some moisturizing drops for my eyes. Ok, fine. Dr. Shih, however, explained that my eyes were so dry that anything that got into them would probably cause an issue like a scratch. In addition to prescribing a steroid drop for the problem, he recommended that I use moisturizing drops almost hourly. He said that my eyes had been so dry for so long that I probably didn’t know what well-lubricated eyes felt like. I’ve been on top of this problem for a year now and can attest that the drops have helped immeasurably. The cherry on top, though, was at checkout. They charged me an emergency fee… of $ 25. And apologized for it! WHAT?! It was so worth the $ 25. On top of the $ 25, they’ve got my loyalty. I tell everyone I can how awesome they are!

I’ve been going to Dr. Fan since they first opened up many years ago when I was looking for Sama eyewear. I was so happy to have found them. I am extremely pleased and always happy to get my eyes checked with her. Even when I moved down to California, I would schedule my yearly eye exam during my business trips back up to Portland. I appreciate their help and care!!! Thanks very much!

I’ve never been to their office, but after I called to get a quote I felt I needed to write a review and let people know how expensive they are. They quoted $ 145 for a contact fitting! I double checked that it was for the contact fitting only and not the eye exam. My optometrist back home charges $ 55 and the lenscrafters down the street charges $ 49. It just seemed extremely expensive to me and I can’t imagine what would justify the additional $ 100, especially for a 30 min appointment. Before you go in for an appointment, make sure you call in and get a quote for everything you want to do. I’m glad I asked otherwise I would have probably ended up paying for it. The doctors might be great optometrists, but they are marking up the costs too much.

I highly recommend Couple of Eyes. Dr. Shih is very thorough and takes the time to answer all of my questions. The front office staff is very friendly as well. I’ve been to several optometrists in the area and this place is by far the best!

Dr. Fan and Dr. Shih are very helpful and patient. They also have the nicest selection of frames I’ve seen in the Hillsboro and Beaverton area. My wife and I have both bought eyewear there and have been very satisfied. I also got fitted for contact lenses and it was a breeze. I will be back before the end of the year.

This is truly your mom and pop store. Dr. Shih and Dr. Fan are very patient and thorough with their eye exams. They explain everything to you in terms that you will understand. They’re extremely knowledgeable and spend a lot of time with you if you wanted to address any concerns. They do a great job helping you pick out your frames. They’re honest about how you look in the frames, and they will recommend frames if you tell them how your lifestyle is. I’m rough with my stuff, and they were good about finding durable frames for me. They have the coolest frames! They take VSP and most insurance/vision plans. Edit: I decided to get one of the more higher end frames that they had. After a year or so, the glasses broke. They fixed them, but the front desk girls were a bit snobby about it. A few months later, the glasses broke again. They said they needed to order a part directly from the manufacturer and had the guts to charge me for the part. After expressing my concern(to the front desk girl), she didn’t really seem to care about what I had to say. I actually had to talk to the doc about it and he made things right. While Dr. Shih and Dr. Fan are really nice people, their front line staff is average at best both with knowledge and professionalism. I have sent many people to them and now I’m a bit embarrassed about it. I have decided to go to a different optometrist.
