I love watching workers who love doing their jobs. If that’s your cup of tea or… coffee in this case, then I suggest paying a visit to the graceful and talented baristas at Dapper and Wise. If you hate terrible metaphors, I would recommend skipping to the last few lines of this review. Seeing the baristas create their beautiful espressos is akin to watching a conductor unify an orchestra. Each shot is carefully pulled, and my lattes are always adorned with the silkiest of microfoams cheerfully dancing in my tongue. Take notes plebs, you won’t find any hazelnut syrups to taint the sanctity of your pure-blooded espresso. Bwahahaha! Like a hungry samurai defending his lunch, I closed my eyes and eagerly anticipated my first taste: Whoa. Nutty, with a refreshingly crisp bite. I normally drink the office sludge, so never I expect my coffee to have such varied notes in its taste. Blasphemous, I know. The particular latte I had was Peruvian in origin. It’s supposed to taste like almond croissant with hints of fennel(my taste buds suck). It went well with the Peruvian dark chocolate bars they sold there as well. I’m still biased towards the bolder espresso from D&W’s sibling, Insomnia Coffee. Guns & Gold baby! Great place. Fantastic coffee and down to earth baristas. Elegant, yet unpretentious… Unlike this review. P. S. They also teach you how to brew! For $ 15, you can learn how to make coffee via auto-drip, french press, aeropress, kalita wave, and espresso.

My favorite coffee hands down. The roasting is really premium. It has a real smooth flavor. I don’t really like the taste of acidic coffee. This coffee is the smoothest I’ve ever had. I used to only like Dutch bros but then I had this coffee. They do coffee classes here and you can come slurp coffees with strangers. It’s kinda cool because I made some friends that way. The owners are really nice and knowledgeable. The roaster told me about how coffee is a cherry and then they roast it. That was really neat. I only wish they did extra large iced drinks. Also my only recommendation is that they make a Dapper & Wise drive thru!

So yummy! They are sweet people. First time experience was great! We tried the El Salvador espresso, Guatemala pour over, and Ethiopia espresso(pictured). All have great and distinct taste. All espressos come with tonic water to cleanse the palate. The girl was fabulous at helping us decide what we wanted. I ended up bringing the Guatemala wash home for the hubby!

Is this an upscale coffee shop here in BEAVERTON? No way, I initially thought. But I was proven wrong upon a trip this morning to this pleasant space with minimalist décor and handcrafted brews. I tried pour over for the very first time(the Ethiopia blend I believe) and managed to drink about ¾ of the steaming mug without cream or sugar until I at last surrendered defeat and meekly asked for cream.(I’m a budding coffee lover trying to understand the whole culture and whatnot.) But all in all, my first time of sipping a deep black cup of coffee in an attempt to become a coffee pursuit was fascinating. I could taste everything – the sharp acidity at the end, the boldness of the roast, the smooth texture. Honestly not my favorite kind – I’m still a Stumptown fan – but Dapper & Wise is a beautiful coffee shop meant for those who are stern believers in the power of coffee. If you want a taste of something meticulously created and made with skill – this is your destination. But don’t come here for a mocha or a vanilla latte.

Best place in the area. If you’re sick of your run of the mill crap coffee with four pounds of sugar and burnt flavor, then this is where you need to go. The Baristas are awesome; extremely knowledgeable. The pour overs are fantastic. When they roast you can smell the favors. It’s an amazing place to go if you want coffee the way it’s suppose to be had.

I recognize that there isn’t a lot of demand for super high quality coffee and espresso made with skill, knowledge and artistry that tastes divine and maintains the complex nuances of the properly roasted and fairly sourced beans in this part of town. But it sure is nice to know its here.

3 dollars for drip coffee is a little steep! Not friendly service. I tried their coffee next door, and it was really acidic makes Starbucks look like a 5 star coffee show when it’s not

Coffee sold at their stores(insomnia) is D&W. Often bitter, burnt or weak. the«Tortoiseshell» tastes weak and shouldn’t be sold as coffee, maybe a tea label would be better. Working at Intel, it used to be a treat when they sold Sleepy Monk. For some reason they believe(d) they could do better. However, D&W is a FAR cry from Sleepy Monk. I’d rather drive 2 miles up the road to drink Stumptown coffee from New Seasons… which is what I encourage others to do as well.

Word of mouth is how I found D&W. Did not know Beaverton had any true third-wave coffee roasters! Visited Saturday morning and it was not too busy, and barista Graham pulled me two shots of Colombia Rio Chiquito(crisp acidity, subtle sweetness), and two shots of Guatemala Finca Bourbon(very smooth). Both pulls were beautiful and the espressos superb! Next time I intend to have pourover versions. Graham is really knowledgeable about their coffee and was happy to share. My first impression of D&W was one that makes me anxious to return and sample their other coffees.

Amazing coffee. I usually get lattes elsewhere, but their drip coffee and espresso/americano are so rich in flavor, comparable to or exceeds intelligentsia!(I’m from LA)

A long time customer of the original Insomnia Coffee House off of Baseline — I was excited to hear about their new roasting shop. Of course, the mouthwatering pictures of gorgeous pour-overs and nooks and crannies of the shop only made today’s long-overdue visit that much grander. Walking in, I was instantly struck by the ambiance. If you’ve visited either of the Insomnia shops in Portland, you’ll already be familiar with the re-appropriation of furniture and odds and ends for décor. Dapper & Wise had some amazing interior design work done — you’ll want to stare at the wood shelves, glasswork chandelier, and wood paneling for hours. Of course, the visit is all about the coffee, right? The menu is small, which is perfect for quick decisions and offers three espresso roasts, as well as three regular options. I selected the Columbian today — and like another poster — was able to enjoy it quite nicely black(I’m normally a warm milk/cream with a splash of coffee kind of gal). They do have cream and sugar — albeit no decaf. I found half a cup was about right for me since caffeine affects me pretty strongly. The only critique I’d offer would be the availability of a few bread items, as I’m a «something to eat with my coffee» kind of gal — but I also realize that the main goal of this shop is to have delectable coffee beans to sell and taste! Highly recommend a visit to the suburbs for all you urban eastsiders — you’ll not regret it.

Absolutely the best coffee outside of Portland and rivals many of Portland’s best. The baristas(and owners) are all extremely educated and talented in the craftsmanship of producing quality coffee. The baristas will re-make your coffee(on their own discretion) until they have pulled you the perfect shot. The menu is very simple and so is the bean list. This ensures that an abundance of focus and detail can be given to ensure top notch, quality espresso every time. Although the tasting room closes at 1pm, D&W sell a variety of whole beans per 12oz bags to enjoy at home. Again, the quality of the bean is a game changer.(Insomnia Coffee, across the parking lot, also sells D&W roasted beans and are open later). If the coffee wasn’t enough, the conversation and warm welcome should be. Every time I’ve walked in I’ve been greeted with personal attention. D&W has become my exclusive roaster and tasting room in the Beaverton area. Nothing less than 5⁄5.

I’m always excited to see new coffee shops open up. It’s a nice place in the same plaza as Insomnia coffee and in fact opened up by the same people. I’m usually an espresso person but saw they have hand pours so decided to try it. I asked for a recommendation and got the Kenya Kigaa. Unfortunately the coffee was too acidic for my taste so I didn’t actually enjoy it much. It was also on the light side and I like mine stronger. I’ll probably still come back to try their espresso and a different roast. Oh yea, and they sell woodblock chocolate! I love their chocolate and now that’s it’s so much more accessible to me, it’s a little dangerous…

From the same people who bring you Insomnia Coffee, the Dapper & Wise tasting room comes onto the coffee scene as the perfect place to try coffee in it’s purest form with no frills. They really know how to brew a cup here — when done right, you can really taste the nuances in each roast. They treat coffee brewing as both a science and an art form. I’m the kind of girl who puts cream and sugar in her coffee — or at least I was. Dapper & Wise taught me how to enjoy black coffee. More like forced me to, they don’t set out any milk or cream, and only recently put out a small pot of raw sugar. But that’s all fine and dandy with me, or else I never would have been able to truly appreciate this beautiful world of third wave coffee. They feature 3 types of coffee and 3 types of espresso beans at any given time. The coffee is made fresh as a pour over so it’ll take a second longer than your typical drip coffee. D&W roast their beans in small batches so you know you’re getting fresh coffee. I recently bought a 12 oz. bag of beans(the Kenya AA Kigaa) from here and it’s been a delight brewing it myself at home! The bags run between $ 13 and $ 14, which are a few bucks cheaper than those at similar Portland roasters. I’ll keep buying my beans from here. There’s something about this place that makes me instantly happier after I leave. Besides the excellent coffee and the nice setup they have, I think it has something to do with the fact that the guys working here are really great. They are passionate and very knowledgeable about their coffee — ask them anything and they’ll give you their opinion on their favorite bean, home brewing method, etc. etc. It’s hard for a coffee fanatic like myself to find good coffee in the suburbs, so I love that D&W is around now. Definitely check these guys out!

The owners of Insomnia Coffee recently opened up their roasting company to the public and the result is spectacular. «Dapper & Wise» is located in the same area as Insomnia Coffee on Amberbrook making it easily accessible. Inside it has a different vibe from that of Insomnia. It’s smaller, still very inviting and very calm. The interior, much like it’s namesake, is reminiscent of a bygone era. A time of gentleman’s agreements, firm handshakes and holding doors open for one another. An elegant, yet subtle wallpaper and tile adorn the walls, dark wood shelves and counters add to the sophistication and their custom made espresso bar is a thing of beauty. But what of the service? What of the coffee you ask? The knowledge, care and passion is made evident by the product. Offering espresso, pour over, macchiatos and more there is plenty to try and plenty to like. The coffee itself is some of, if not the best I have ever had offering a little something for every palate . If you happen to be like me, which is almost completely ignorant to the roasting process, or unsure of the finer differences between espresso and a pour over the staff will gladly take the time to educate you and explain a little bit of the science behind the process. A little education goes a long way and was able to help me identify key differences between roasts that I otherwise would not have thought of or noticed. The passion and dedication shown proves that Dapper & Wise isn’t *just* coffee. It’s a work of art.
