This review is specifically for Dr. Hageman the optometrist at the Lunenburg Wal Mart Eye Center. I have only had the eye exam here(twice) but not utilized the frame/lenses purchase options. I first saw Dr. Hageman here 4 – 6 years ago and loved my prescription. Due to being short on time and having lost my glasses I had my next eye exam and a one hour place in a local mall. I suffered for two years with a prescription that just wasn’t right. I went back to Dr. Hageman a few months ago and got another prescription and again it is spot on perfect for my eyes. I have an astigmatism that can be tricky to script for and I’m too much of a chicken to have the lasik procedure. He also diagnosed my then 10 yr old son with a severe eye issue and sent him to see a local specialist who then sent him to Boston. Had he not found this issue my son perhaps could have eventually went blind. This all still seems bizarre to me that such a great doctor is working at a Wal Mart vision center, but I guess not everyone needs prestige and money to be a great doctor. He is caring, has a great demeanor and is very helpful. I highly recommend giving him a try if you just moved to the area, have had prescription issues or would like a second opinion.

I found the selection of frames to be okay, the service to be good, but the glasses to be the worst I have ever had. Not the frames, but the lenses. I got progressive lenses with the anti-glare option and find these lenses, my second pair of progressives, to have a very narrow band of correction, progressives often suffer from this, but this pair of glasses is worse than my previous. Additionally, and even more irritating, I have never had lenses more difficult to clean and keep clear. I think this might be due to the anti-glare — which I have had before from other vendors, but never with the cleaning problem I have now. My understanding from one of the employees is that this store is independent of Wal-mart, they just lease space. I hope Wal-mart corrects this, as I do not think they would sell such crappy lenses. I got a pair several years ago from Sam’s in Hudson, NH and found them to be fine. I will not return to this place and do not recommend them. The stars they got was for the service.

Pleasantly surprised. I readily admit that it sounds like a punchline(«Where’d you get your eye exam, Walmart?!») but it was professional, thorough, high quality, and affordable. Eye exam was fair price, and separate from the vision center. Their optometrist doesn’t wear a blue smock, as he is an independent contractor. In fact, you pay at his desk back where the eye exam rooms are, credit card charge to doctor so and so, then go back out to the main area to potentially buy glasses or contacts from the employees with the blue smocks from Walmart itself. Eye exam was top, I assure you. I have had glasses for thirty years, and I’ve worn contacts for about 18 years. I was also in the military and I’ve seen many, many different optometrists in my travels. This guy was near the top of my favorites. I was struck with his attention to detail, and conversational style to get at, for example, what contacts might be best for my changing eyes. I couldn’t have been more pleased with the eye exam. I will recommend him to anyone around who asks me. As for the Walmart part of the business, it was… also great! Another pleasant surprise. I did not buy glasses so I don’t know about glasses from here other than by price, which looked really low. Can’t speak to quality for it. For contacts, though, quality is not determined by where you buy them. Same brand is same brand. I can say PRICE was great at the Walmart Vision Center. They do price match if you find a lower price, but I can say that my particular contacts cost $ 65/box from Walmart, and were $ 70/box on 1800-contacts that same night. I was all set to go back for my price match guarantee, but Walmart already had the lowest price I found. I’m not one to get super excited about eye exams and the like, but I had had a crappy optometrist experience for the one prior to this visit(see my one star review for LensCrafters in the Mall of NH). The optometrist for the Walmart vision Center in Bedford made a variety of essential changes to my prescription(less negative for vision, wear reading glasses, use toric lenses) that resulted from a good, quality, solid 30 minute exam.
