Wow — a classic down east breakfast. This is not low calorie, but well worth it! Classic cheese biscuits and perfectly seasoned sausage.

I live on a boat circumnavigating Eastern North America. We eat in scores of restaurants and can truly attest to what is a dive or a hole in the wall. This place won the worst on the Loop. Food quality was atrocious. Service miserable Basic cleanliness was frightening. Their type written plain sheet menu was covered with food stains. The burger and soup made you want to grab a cold can of Campbells and look for a White Castle. Advertised breakfast all day was false– arrived at 12:35 to be told the«breakfast kitchen closed at 12:30». As a dessert treat they began mopping the floors before we finished eating. I understand that Belhaven has limited eating choices– but 4 stars plus — scary what would be a 1 star.

Good old fashioned southern cooking. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. The staff is super friendly… be sure to try the sweet tea, its pure bliss.

While working in the Belhaven/Bath area, I decided to take a chance on one of the little restaurants in Belhaven on Main Street. As I walked Main, I stumbled upon a window that read, «Gingerbread Bakery» and then below it said, «O’neal’s Snack Shop». This didn’t necessarily ring any bells for me to think that this would be a place to grab lunch until I saw a sign that read, «Dine in or take out», so I decided to feel this out. The place is small, old timey, and has a counter to dine at which is what I chose. The waitress was super friendly, greeted me immediately. The menu offered various sandwiches, burgers, and a few salads and the ability to eat breakfast all day! Love that! My neighbor at the counter told me that the hot ham and cheese was the best sandwich on the menu so I went with it. I ordered a side of potato salad. I love trying different potato salads across the state. It seems the further east I go, the different potato salad can be. The sandwich and potato salad came out super quick and it was YUMMY! I thanked my counter neighbor because as he said, I was not disappointed. I chose to have it om rye bread which made it even more flavorful. The front had a bakery case of many cakes and treats. I did not partake in any of these, maybe next time but they sure did look appealing. Also, it must be said that I am a bit of a restroom snob so I’ll just say, it was the world’s tinest bathroom and wasn’t as clean as I’d like so that took my experience down a notch. There were also about 4 – 5 screaming kids running around the place, all around tables so that was somewhat annoying. Why weren’t those kids in school on a school day anyway? Overall, the food wins and I’ll be back.
