Captain Nemo’s Submarine Sandwiches

I have been getting steak and cheese subs here for twenty plus years. Last night I got my first really disappointing sandwich here at Nemos. There was a new crew on duty and they were overwhelmed even though it was a slow evening compared to summer. The steak was over cooked and there were very few garnishments. The person on the garnishing and wrapping station couldn’t make a move without help from the person on the grill. My sub was pretty cold by the time it was delivered. I will probably wait a while before trying this normally good place again.

Alright, so the subs are original. Some of them are pretty good but I could never pay what they ask for a full sized sub with extra meat and a small drink ($ 19)
That’s ridiculous. Damn near $ 20 can get you food and gas for the day instead of a captain nemos sub. By the way, extra meat is the only way to go on the steak and cheese.
Ok ok, so I just went and had a steak and egg sub as I was waiting near by hungry and it was fabulous! Wasn’t too bad this time since I got an 8″ standard. This place pulls me in both directions…

One of the best secrets we’ve found in Belleville so far. They are a bit pricey but I’d say for the amount of food you get the price point is justified. The seating area isn’t much but as soon as you take a bite you’re transported to Submarine Paradise. The bread is so perfectly made and serves as a wonderful podium for the symphony wrapped inside of it. My only regret is that my stomach is not bigger.

This place is steady, not great. Prices match that. I think it has lessened in quality i little in 40 years but remained adequate. Old place with nice kids.

I don’t understand what all the fuss is about this place. I have ordered subs here on several occasions and have been underwhelmed every time. What is up with No mayo only miracle whip? That doesn’t even make sense to me. Get the lunch box instead.

It’s a-​ok. Nothing that will shock and awe but it is a solid little sandwich place.
The atmosphere here is nothing to brag on. It’s also definitely off the beaten path. If you don’t know where you are headed you are bound to drive past and miss the turn off. The service was rather unmemorable in either direction.
I had a steak and cheese that was decent. I needed more cheese so definitely ask for extra as I am not one who normally does extra cheese. I also doctored it up with spicy jarred red peppers. To me if you must add ingredients once it is home that is not enough to be judged as anything more than just fair or ok. Once the sandwich was enhanced it was tasty though.
In a pinch I’d return but I am not rushing.

I’ve been coming here for around 15 years, and I have never been disappointed! My favorite is the pizza sub, but I have had many different subs, and they all have been great!

The Girls Might Not Be The Best Because They’re So Young So You Really Have To Tell Them What You Want And How You Want It! Besides That Is Amazing! Also The Taco Sub Is Good!

I have always loved captain nemos so I talked my friends into ordering from the one in Belleville. Big mistake! I ordered a chicken parm sub, which apparently they don’t have, but failed to inform me. I also ordered fried mushrooms, which they again don’t have but didn’t tell me. Instead they decided to give me grilled canned mushrooms (I posted a pic) and a grilled chicken sub. When I called to speak to a manager, I got a girl who sounded about 17, but she assured me twice she was the manager. So after arguing with me over what fried mushrooms are lol and telling me I paid for items which do not exist on their menu, they don’t even have fried food, she then tells me they don’t do refunds??? She called the owner who and said I’ll be contacted tomorrow. I can’t believe this business is left to be run by children, with no people or trouble solving skills! What a joke!

I read the great reviews on here and became excited to check out this place. Went there a few nights ago for a carry-​out dinner. I ordered the corned beef sub and my fiancé ordered the reuben. I thought the subs were very generic. Most of the subs on the menu come on a white sub bun, and come pretopped with tomato, lettuce, and a vinaigrette. You could add extra toppings for the price of $ 0.40 each. We just ordered them how they come and they were decent, but def didn’t blow me away. Will definitely give them another try though, and hopefully i can experience what all the hype is about.

I love their food and would give them 5 stars if the help wasn’t so rude and miserable. Unfortunately the girls learn this from the owner. I will and have gone out of my way to go to the Romulus location. Another negative they are not open on Sundays. That’s to bad.

I love there subs but at times the young ladies taking the orders can be alittle rude on the phone.

The steak and cheese is definitely the way to go. The building isn’t much, but the food is great.

I’m not sure but Ive been going to this place for the past 11 years, and Ive noticed the food doesn’t taste the same. Its super salty now and it seems like its less quality. I honesty LOVED this place but it is a hit to miss. The girls that work there seems like they are miserable. Not friendly at all. sad :(And I really used to love this place! sigh!

I love it. Minus their not open Sundays.. They put the meat right on the flat top. They have like 20 options to chose from. Great bread. Support the local joints Just go. Keep in mine the double is double the length not the meat. Enjoy

This place rocks! Not sure why it took me so long to discover this gem, but hey at least I finally found Captain Nemo’s. This place is ancient, but very tasty. They truly need a bathroom and to take debit and credit cards! I can even overlook those 2 problems to give them 5 stars. If you live anywhere in western wayne county you need to check this dive out!

Best sub I have found — steak and cheese no onion. First sub was about 35 years ago. Love them! Flew them to California when I lived their in 80’s. You won’t go wrong here. 2 thumbs up and a snap!

There used to be a Captain Nemos in Garden City, which was the first place I had an honest to goodness Submarine Sandwich. This ruined me for any shop since. That shop closed, and I went through life feeling a little dismayed at every sandwich I had since then. Yes, I’ve had delicious ones, but there was nothing near the taste that I remembered.
I had a friend pick me up at DTW with the condition that I join her for dinner at the best place. It was then I realized that the magic lived on! My abject joy at rediscovering the hoagie on a fresh baked bun with the delicious combination of celery salt vinegar, oil (and oregano?) made my soul so happy!
I now live close to the shop, so we go there at least once a month. The subs are a bit pricier than Subway, but you surely get an amazing experience for the price.
The shop is old, carry out oriented, but quick and clean. The subs are chopped/​grilled with the cheeses melted on top. A whole sub is sufficient for two. Delicious!

Very good submarine style sandwiches. I always get the traditional, an Eye-​talian style cold cuts grinder or hero. Bread is very fresh. Their dressing is good too. A big ‘double’ sandwich is $ 10. CASH ONLY.
There’s also a Capt. Nemo’s in Romulus.
Waitstaff is friendly but the manager (not always there) would be better suited to work at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. She should not be allowed to deal with the non-​criminal public.
Best for carry out although there are a couple of dinette style tables. Nice art on the wall by Ralph Goings seems very appropriate (an American photorealist painter) but c’mon, don’t get the idea this place is fancy, this is Belchville.
