This place is the most convenient mexican joint for us to visit, so we decided to give it a try. Lets do this backwards and let me start my bottom line: The food was good minus one thing, service was okay, and yes, I’d give it another try but I’d more likely order takeout! I had a chicken enchilada, a tamale(I had NEVER had a tamale before — I know, I live in a cave) with rice and beans. I didn’t really care for the tamale but I’m not sure if that was because of the cooking or because I just don’t like tamales, however, my chicken enchilada was AMAZING despite the fact I almost ate a bay leaf that they failed to remove from my chicken. The rice and beans were spot on as well. Two more pitfalls– service was terrible. Our waitresses switched in the middle of our meal and neither one were attentive at all. All the employees seemed to be just standing around behind the bar gossiping. The noise level is OUTRAGEOUS. You other Unilocalers weren’t kidding. Its a big open room and I could barely hear my husband who was sitting directly across the table at lunch time.

Our favorite restaurant in the area. Always busy but full of good people. We like to eat on the patio so the kids can play. The kids stuff themselves with the chips and salsa & Great specials on daiquiris and margaritas! Everything is great but my hubby asks for whatever the cook made for himself for dinner just to surprise the waiter

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. I love the chiro & chicken combo plate. Always fresh and worth the wait. Honestly the best in the area.

It’s super loud, which is ok if you’re just going to eat but sometimes it’s a bit hard to hear the company your with but the food makes up for it. Delicious meals all around.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while house hunting in the area. Business was brisk but not overcrowded even during lunch hour(there was a major change of command today which may have affected the crowd). Chips and salsa were fine. We got some guacamole for the chips. My wife liked it but it was a little too oniony for me(I have a thing against onions so it probably is fine). Entrees came out quickly and were good, no nonsense food. We had to flag down our waiter once(to order the guac) as he wasn’t stopping by the table. But it wasn’t anything being politely assertive didn’t solve right away. Prices were great as all the lunch entrees were under $ 10. Definitely expect to go back.

Disappointed with this place. It’s loud and very poorly lit inside. Noon was very crowded, packed to the gills with people from the Base. The waiter was smug and not friendly. We had to flag him down for drink refills. The ground beef in the tacos was seasoned well, but other than that the food was bland and nothing special. Chips and salsa just blah.

Stopped in for lunch today and was overall pleased with my meal. The place is adjacent to a strip mall on a highway crossroad in a relatively undeveloped area. The restaurant itself isn’t really all that unique. It has a very open, high ceiling dining area with a full bar in the back. I was slightly disappointed with the generic chips and even more generic salsa, but my chile relleno was egg dipped poblano pepper deliciousness and the chicken enchilada was melt in your mouth good. It really reminded me of home in California, and that doesn’t happen too often in Midwest Mexican Food restaurants. This place is definitely worth your attention if you live in the Ofallon/Belleville area.

One of my go to Mexican restaraunts in the local area. The food is pretty good. I’ve ordered a number of items and each was tasty. The sides, such as the beans are on the ‘ok’ side of things. I can recommend the fajitas and carnitas in sauce. The atmosphere is very casual. Seems to be a popular place for lunch. Also, the price is reasonable.

Been here twice recently, and the 5 stars are shaky, but both the food and margaritas are so good they still deserve them as a point of differentiation from other local Mexican restaurants. The vegetarian items are very tasty. The cheese they use is awesome! Very good chips and salsa. House lime margaritas are the best I’ve had in the area with the possible exception of Carisillo’s in Collinsville. In fact, this place rivals Carisillo’s for the best Mexican around but DG is closer and they have better chips and salsa. The service was a little weak especially the last time. They totally messed up our order. They did correct it, just seemed like waitress was pre-occupied. Still very good overall and will be back!

Just had an amazing meal. The chili reanno dinner was great. But what the amazing part was our server JASMINE… very efficient professional and super polite. She anticipate our every need. I haven’t had service this good in a long time! Ask for her!!!

Some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Love the arroz con pollo with veggies– a big plate of chicken, grilled veggies and rice, covered in cheese dip. It is better in restaurant, however– I have ordered it twice for take-out and it does not have enough cheese dip on top. But, they do include free chips and salsa with take-out, which is nice. Their salsa is delicious and homemade and not too hot– plus, their chips are super thin, which I love. Overall, a great, quick lunch or dinner spot.

I went here last week for the first with my coworkers. It was really cozy, the salsa was really great and the server even offered us to try their«hotter» salsa. It was housemade and really smooth! They kept us filled with the lunch menu and chips! I didn’t get a drink special but the server did let us know about them, which was nice.

Best Mexican that’s closest to base. I get chicken enchiladas with White Queso dip on top… The chips are really yummy because they are light and crispy… not thick and crunchy, salsa is ok. Nice atmosphere

Dos gorditos has delicious margaritas and great lunch specials. But their cheese dip is outstanding! It’s not watered down like most Mexican restaurants around the metro area. I’ve had their chicken fajitas and chimichangas which are fresh and very tasty! They also have a nice outside patio which is great for the warmer months. The only reason why I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they forgot to give me my tortillas with my fajitas in a to go order and I didn’t realize it until I got home. :-(but I won’t hold it against them. Check this place out! You won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful! Food was great esp the guacamole! Ask for Jasmine for the best service! It’s a tough call between Dos Gorditas and Baja Cali! I guess I have to do both! Darn! Lol!

Food was a four star, margaritas are a three, service was at best a two. Food was good but not amazing, though I would have loved to try my friend’s rice, cheese, shrimp meal. My enchiladas were rather bland. Margaritas were nothing to brag about, I tasted more salt and lime than beverage. More ice than I would expect too. The service, wow, what was that? As soon as we placed our order we refused three runners who brought us somebody else’s dinners. I’m not entirely sure I got what I ordered. Then we watched most of our kid’s meals go around the room before landing with our kids. We had four kids so it should not have been an issue to find the table with four kid’s meals. The kicker was when everybody had their food the waitress came out to let us know they were out of burgers for my daughter. She sat and watched everybody else eat while waiting for her food and picking at ours.

Stopped here with a friend late on a Sunday afternoon after a day of running around exploring St. Louis 250 birthday cakes on the Eastside. My friend loves the place, so was a little skeptical(sometimes she is a little off when it comes to ‘good’ places). Very pleasantly surprised– the salsa is awesome. Portions are very generous. She ordered this monster sandwich that had chicken, avocado, jalapenos, and some other tastys on a Mexican bread… definitely a sandwich for 2(or leftovers). I ordered 2 of the spiced pork tacos and a side of beans that would easily serve 2. The waitress’s face lit up because it’s one of her favs and she doesn’t get to serve it much. The tacos were quite messy, because there was a lot of meat but tasty. They featured several different types including tripe and tongue and a choice of toppings such as cilantro, onion, or pico. I was a little disappointed that the good tacos were only offered ala carte – the plates and combo meals featured ground beef tacos only. The service was average, nothing special or bad. The prices in general are just ok – my order with a beverage came to just under $ 12. Caution though, they will nickle n dime you for extras such as limes at .99 cents. And this is a pay up front type of establishment.

My husband & I continue to love & frequent this place. We stayed at a 5 star resort & had Mexican there — and all it did was make us crave Dos Gorditos. For us, no other Mexican place measures up to here. The salsa is flavorful & just enough hot spice(most places aren’t hot at all). The guacamole is delicious(I find most places are afraid to add salt); love the chopped tomatoes & fresh chopped avocado in it. Husband loves the cheese dip. The fajitas have tons of delicious fresh veggies in them & are seasoned so well & are so delicious that I haven’t even wanted to try something else. Can’t get enough of them! Only reason not 5 stars — consistency with portion sizes on take out, still. Last time was too much food. Odd«complaint» but hate throwing it out.

I’m a little confused on how this place got so many good reviews… I’ve been there twice. I always give a restaurant a second chance, just in case what I ordered wasn’t their«specialty» or it was just an off day. However, both times at this restaurant, the food was almost inedible. The only reason I gave this place two stars is because the atmosphere isn’t terrible and they have a military discount. If you’re paying full price or want decent Mexican food, look elsewhere.

Despite my valiant attempts to be healthy, this was lunch today. Since discovering the wonderful world of chile rellenos, when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I cannot manage to order anything else. My friend and I got arrived earlier than the rest of the office and sat down. We were quickly brought chips and salsa which I found to be very flavorful, but not spicy enough for my taste. As the rest of the office came in, I was beginning to wonder why about 20 minutes had passed and no one had taken our table’s food order. The server did it table by table instead of all at the same time so everyone’s food came out at different times. I found this very bizarre and kind of annoying. Service aside, my entrée was yummy but nothing special. Nothing at Dos Gorditos is extraordinary. It’s your typical midwestern attempt at Mexican food. My favorite part was the price. Two chile rellenos = $ 6 before their military discount.
