I took my 18 year old foster son in to Dr. Dooms… we quickly found out that his lung function was 65 per cent… unacceptable. He was diagnosed with asthma and allergies. Dr. Dooms changed his inhaler and ordered up some allergy shots… it’s like having a new kid! Great doc!

I met Dr. Dooms for the first time last week and he was truly refreshing from the last doctor I’d visited. He’s young, energetic, intelligent and shows real interest in his patients. I thought someone with a name like Dr. Dooms would probably have a good sense of humor or at least a great disposition! I was right! He also seems to be quite a detective and will be investigating my allergies to nuts in the near future. My former allergist had retired two years ago and he left all my records to his office. It’s so nice to know I am in good hands with a doctor I can trust.

I feel like I shouldn’t rave, but I just had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Dooms yesterday, and I can’t think of a single negative thing to say. Dr. Dooms earns the distinction of being the first doctor I’ve had that’s really younger than me. Congrats on making me feel old! Except he doesn’t. He and I have«talked shop» about asthma treatment in the old days… he’s familiar with it and says that some of the oldest medications still have their place, but admits that he didn’t experience them first-hand. I like his curiosity and honesty. He is open, bright, and observant. He pays attention to you and what you say. He takes detailed history. When you’re not sharing something, he pokes for the details that you’re leaving out, in a nice way. He quickly establishes that he believes successful allergy/asthma treatment is a team effort between doctor and patient, and that you know your symptoms and what works best… and then challenges you to try something different to get better results. He definitely challenges non-compliant patients to keep with it… many treatments offered through his office take time to show improvement. He’s realistic about the possible benefits and risks of various treatment paths. He is interested in and willing to try new medications while being skeptical that they will be miracles for each patient. He spends his own personal time tracking interesting studies and advancements in the field, attending conferences, reading papers, and contributing original research himself. This is something that only the best doctors do, in my experience. Dr. Dooms was recently involved in an education and legislative lobbying effort to get a new law passed in the State of Washington that allows doctors to write prescriptions for Epi-pens directly to schools instead of to particular students. This allows school administrators and nurses to administer epinephrine to school students who might be experiencing their first severe allergic reaction or whose parents cannot afford Epi-pen medication to leave at school. This will save lives! It protects those school employees who act in good faith to assist students having severe allergic reactions from legal fallout. I couldn’t be more in favor of this and I’m very impressed with his leadership on this issue. The office has three doctors on staff and it is not hard to get an appointment, which is excellent.(They had two docs for years, ran at capacity, and sometimes ran late). Things are better now. The office staff is friendly and professional; Maggie is my favorite for allergy shots. Even the billing gal is helpful.

We had the most incredible experience with Dr. Dooms. He is SO knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients! He is passionate about what he does, and helping his patients find relief from their allergy symptoms… and if their symptoms are not allergy related(like my boys)…he has the knowledge and wisdom to look into other causes and address those at the source! Can’t give him high enough praise.
