I was in middle school and early high school when I was a patient of Dr. Naficy’s. I had an extreme overbite, which he started correction for with nighttime headgear for about a year before he put braces on. Once the braces were on, he had me keep the nighttime headgear for another 6 – 9 months, and after that, the headgear retired(hallelujah). I had my braces for about a year and a half, from 2003 to 2005. I was diligent in wearing my headgear at night when I had to, wearing the rubber bands when told, etc. When it came time for retainers, I wore them day and night diligently until Dr. Naficy said I could switch to nighttime only. I wore the braces at night diligently until my last appointment, where Dr. Naficy did not explicitly say that I could stop wearing my retainers, so I wore them at night for another two years. Within the past year, I started wearing my retainer again. They are about nine years old now, so I’m due for replacements. I called the office and got an estimate for the cost: about $ 1,400 total for first appointment($ 95, which goes towards the cost of the retainers if I choose to buy them), second appointment($ 250 for both upper and lower jaw impressions since teeth«might have» changed since 2005), and the retainers themselves($ 1,000+ for both upper and lower retainer, mine would be Invisalign). I’m no rocket scientist or orthodontist, but I think $ 1,400 is a bit high for replacement retainers. I called another orthodontist in Seattle and the ticket price is about $ 300. More than one thousand dollars difference in total cost is quite asinine. I shudder to imagine how much my parents overpaid for my orthodontic corrections back in the early 2000s with Dr. Naficy!

I got my braces here years ago, and the quality of the work was top notch. However, Dr. Naficy’s bedside manner and punctuality could use some improvement. 2 years ago I came in for an adjustment on my night guard. Dr. Naficy asked if I had kids yet. When I replied no, he asked me my age and then responded with, «You should really start having kids soon.» Regardless of an individual’s opinions on children, it’s completely inappropriate to tell someone to start having kids, let alone a doctor that I pay thousands of dollars to straighten my teeth. Multiple times I have gone in for 9AM appointments and have not been seen until 9:30 — 9:40. If the doctor is unable to see me until 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, don’t schedule my appointment until then. Today I went in for an appointment. They checked me in and sat me in a chair in the back. The doctor emerged 25 minutes later and served another patient who had arrived 5 minutes earlier.
