Today was my first visit to Kona and what a surprise! It was delicious. My friend and I went there for a quick lunch date. I had the 2 entrée mix plate with beef bugogi and chicken teriyaki. The service was very efficient and friendly and I will definitely be back. Glad to know I have a new place to eat in Bend.

Hawaiian Lunch Plates were but fabled fare until today, and let me tell you, they should exist in more places for me to devour! Knowing I’d be arriving in Bend late in the afternoon in need of some noms, I scanned Unilocal in SFO and found this little gem! Hawaiian lunch plates are right up my alley because they’re all about options. I mean, I can never make up my mind when deciding on simple things, so getting to chose multiple entrée options and sides made it a little easier, but the menu here is huge, and that still posed a challenge. I decided to get the Mix It Up Plate with Kahlua Pork and Volcano Chicken, along with steamed broccoli and, of course, potato Mac salad, along with oa side of fried Mandu. The mix plate arrived and I was blown away by the portion size and heavenly aromas! The Volcano Chicken was interesting, spicy from a marinade with that delicious dry chili heat. They use chicken breast tenders for this dish, which are easy to overcook. These were super moist and there were 3 – 4 of them on the plate. I’ve had Kahlua Pork before, and to me it is always kind of a bland dish, that eats like slowly steamed pork. I don’t know why I thought this one would be drastically different, but it was still good, especially when I added a touch of soy and sriracha to amp up all the flavors. There was a big solid scoop of this on the plate as well. The potato Mac salad was creamy and the perfect foil to all the spice and garlic around, and the steamed broccoli was clearly fresh! All in all, an exceptional value at $ 10.50! Now I went out of my way to get here but from the amount of people walking in, it is clear that locals love it. With a menu as big a broad as a Hawaiian Kahuna, I could see this as a regular stop if I were a local! Mahalo!

First, I am spoiled by a Hawaiian place in Portland that has the best Teriyaki at nominal prices. Every Hawaiian place is compared to this:(Lunch today was $ 25 for two of us, 2 entrees and 1 soda. I think that’s a little on the steep side for the portion size and experience. I got the white meat spicy chicken with the Mac salad and broccoli. Plenty of meat but the 2 sides seemed really small. The hubby got the two combo with the Bulogi beef and the Teri chicken. The beef was awesome and the chicken good. He just got two small scoops of rice. The Mac salad we both agreed was ok but not fantastic. Better than some but not something I would come back for. There were some beers on tap. And the menu is huge! Restaurant clean, and staff friendly. Order at the counter and then they bring it out. Very casual. Would come again

We decided to get a mixed plate. I got the bulgogi and grilled ahi. The bulgogi was awesome! Great flavor. The ahi was very tasty but the bulgogi was so good I would next time just get it on its own.

Born and raised on Oahu and this place is like a little piece of home. I eat here quite often and am never disappointed with the food, service or price. Potato Mac is better than my moms(ssshhh don’t tell her I said that). Even my 5 year old who is a very picky eater loves this place. My only suggestion would be to put manapua and spam musubis on the menu(hint, hint to the owner) ;)

I love this place, I probably eat here at least once a week, it’s my husband’s and I’s go to place after going on a long run. We can get a delicious meal(meat, rice, and veggies) that’s both filling and healthy. I always order the volcano chicken with broccoli and rice, my husband usually gets the spicy chicken with broccoli and rice, my mother’s usual is the teriyaki chicken. I’ve also had the chicken with garlicky sauce and it’s very good, but you just can’t beat that volcano chicken.

Yum! So I didn’t get any of the traditional meat plates from here because I just wasn’t in the mood. Instead I got the fried mandu(potstickers) and the yakisoba with broccoli and chicken and the spicy sauce. Everything was really good! The yakisoba could have used a little more flavor /spice in my opinion– I added the extra dipping sauce from the mandu and I think it helped! For anyone staying at the HGI next door– this is such an easy place to get a local /different dinner from! If you don’t want to eat in you can call and pick it up to go. Highly recommend!

We are new to Bend and a friend in Portland recommended this place so we tried it. The poke was disappointing but I understand that Bend is far away from the ocean :). I liked the fact that they offer vegetarian options as well as stir fry options! I’m not a big meat eater and always have hard time ordering when I go to a Hawaiian place. I was so happy that there were plenty for me to choose from! I had mahi mahi stir fry with brown rice and broccoli with spicy garlic sauce and it was delicious!!! I’ll go back for more! It is also so conveniently located right next to the movie theater :)

We were looking for a casual place for a light dinner and this perfectly fit the bill. I ordered the grilled teriyaki tofu with a side of steamed broccoli and brown rice. The portion was«just right,» to quote Goldilocks. Clean restaurant and friendly waitstaff.

Tasty, authentic plate lunch. Regular destination for lunch or dinner. Potato Mac is perfect side dish to a wide variety of menu options. It’s a nice quick dinner spot with kids because the menu offers items that the kids like too. Plus they have beer and wine options for adults!

Good eats. Fast service. Excellent bet. Teriyaki beef some of the best — really well grilled, tasty. Herbed chicken successful, tempura shrimp good, less so the coconut. Lotsa may on the potato Mac if that’s your thing. Attentive service for a counter-order place. Order gal really nice and helpful — we had never been here.

The food is DELICIOUS! The people are nice. It’s spacious and clean. Fun to stop by on Halloween as all the employees are dressed up and handing out candy to the trick or treaters.

I think the heat has gotten to a few of the previous reviewers… I’ll start off with saying the service was great and the restaurant was clean and well decorated. The menu on the wall wasn’t the easiest to navigate and the prices were a bit much IMO for a Hawaiian place. I opted for the 2 meat combo all Tato Mac salad(cause everyone was raving lol) The meat– spicy chicken — delicious but was reminded all the next day… the Kalbi(sold at market price) was delicious. The potato macaroni salad looked good but had very little flavor and was dry. Definitely wasn’t a treat, nor was is it even close to living up to all the hype. If you eat in, grab a pepper shaker, if you choose take out as I did, grab some pepper or better yet just get rice.

Someone was craving Teriyaki this weekend and since it’s been hard to find here in Bend, we decided to give Kona another chance. This time was what I had hoped for the first! Service was pleasant and attentive(helped me quick-borrow a teriyaki sauce from another table… more on this later). Our combo plates included Teriyaki Beef — still a tad pink, tender, good grilled flavor. Kahlua Pork — moist, could’ve been cooked with more salt. And then Spicy Chicken and Spicy Pork — meat portions were nice, had asked for dark meat on the chicken and got white. Not a big mistake but the chicken was a tad dry. Rice and mac salad portions were pretty small, especially for $ 10+ meals, although meat portions were respectable. *Our favorite place near Seattle gives the same quality but doubles the amount of side dishes. For $ 3 less per plate too. :) Speaking of sides. Skimpy on the rice but if you order fries you get a mountain of them. Weird. Overall, best part was the Spicy Sauce. «Gallon to-go please!» Sad now that my first experience left such a bad taste in my mouth. First impression kept me away for far too long. (As for the sauce. Please please please get more squirt bottles for customers to use. It was like Mad Max Teriyaki Sauce Battle. I asked an employee for more and she said I had to borrow one from another table. She did help me find one but got snapped at for her efforts. And seriously, this gal didn’t get her food for another 10 minutes and ended up using about 5 drops. But THATSAUCEBOTTLENEEDSTOCOMEBACKNOW!!! Yeeks lady.)

I can’t believe it took me so long to discover this place! The food is DELICIOUS! I had the Kalua pork and spicy chicken plate with macaroni/potato salad. I think I could eat a quart of this salad it’s to good. Just saw someone order the tuna poke and that is defiantly next on my list!
