Absolutely loved Brother Jons! The Smoked Chicken Mac N Cheese was awesome, as was the Bangers and Mash! There is a more than decent tap list including local and import beers ranging from pilsners to sours to porters and just about everything in between. They also serve cocktails, of which I recommend both the margarita and the Bloody Mary. They infuse their own pepper vodka, and the margaritas are made with real fresh citrus, not high fructose corn syrup. We went on a Friday night after arriving in Bend rather late. The atmosphere was pretty laid back, and it wasn’t overly loud. The service was spot on. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. Our server immediately came and checked in with us, and offered us waters while we mulled through the menu. He continuously checked in with us, without hovering. I didn’t catch his name, but he was such a sweetie. We will definitely be back.

Staff is nice. Sam was great. I heard a few folks say the food was good. So why the bad review. The door says they close at 10:00PM on Sunday, and so does Google Maps. The staff locked the doors at 9:00PM, causing confusion and quick exit of a large group, and for us to quickly close are tab. The reason they gave, it has been slow all day. When the doors were locked, there were 31 people in the restaurant some just ordered food. As a frequent traveler, it’s never ok to close before posted hours unless for weather or other type of emergencies.

Excellent service and cocktails. We’ve all loved the fish and chips(and make it a point to come by any time we’re in town)

Have been meaning to try Brother John’s for a long time — they always seem to be very busy. Glad we finally made it in. They have numerous beers on tap, spirits and wine. The food menu is eclectic and comfort food based. Our table had the flank steak, the bratwurst and the Prime rib dip. All plates were cleaned. There are TVs if you are looking to watch a game. Low key, casual atmosphere, nice spot to sit and enjoy a beer and have some decent food. Booths around the paremeter, high tables in the center of the room and bar seating.

Met up with a group of six for dinner — we were late as we confused this restaurant(Brother Johns Ale House) with Brother John’s Public House on Galveston. Our group was already seated when we arrived and enjoying drinks. The wait staff was friendly although there seemed to be some confusion/friction between the hostess and wait staff which bothered one member of our group. We all ordered from the specials — my hubby and niece had the chicken breast(they said it was cold in the center — as in pre-cooked and warmed from frozen), I had enchiladas, another in our party had pulled pork and one had fish tacos. The pulled pork was very good — the other meals were disappointing — definitely not«restaurant quality» expected of Downtown Bend. This was our first time there and it seemed as if it might be a new place that has not matured. Too bad — it seems that restaurants in this location turnover quickly — good food and great service is what we need. Not sure I’ll be back for awhile.

Great sandwiches and burgers that are large hearty and made with quality ingredients. The specials are changed often and are creative. Large list of draft beers with beer and cider offerings that you may not find in other pubs. The bar is well stocked and the drinks are well served. The service is prompt and attentive both at the bar and at the tables. Great place!

We were sort of bopping around the downtown area of Bend, and it was warm and I got enough hungry I wanted something, but we had dinner reservations later and I didn’t want to go overboard on a meal. We were standing on the corner and saw outside seating, our dog was with us, and decided to give Brother Jon’s a try. Super friendly service from Lucy and the entire staff. Very quick service, I blinked my eyes and before we knew it we had beer and I blinked my eyes again and there was food. As I mentioned, we brought our dog and the staff all made sure he had fresh water. We had the fish and chips, I can’t say anything bad, because they were quite tasty. I prefer my chips a bit crispier, but that said, we scarfed them all down. The fish was 3 big pieces of batter dipped crunchy hotness that went well with the tarter sauce and coleslaw it was served with. My cutie said that while the beer selection wasn’t the biggest or most interesting, they had some of the best picks for the area. We wished that they had the Crux Half Hitched and maybe more choices from the surrounding area, like from some of the breweries in Sisters. All in all, Brother Jon’s was a solid choice for us.

Wow I don’t even remember the last time I had service this poor. Took co-workers there for lunch, waited forever for food, sent one order back because it was wrong, it came out wrong again. By then there is no time left. Salad with a giant brown stump of frisée…just a waste of a lunch that was supposed to be me taking them out for a treat. To be fair to the server she did take that one order off the ticket. I won’t go back.

My waitress at the bar didn’t tell me that there were hot peppers on my burger, AND, there was black pepper on the fries! She laughed at my distress when I mentioned it. What am uncaring experience. Not nice at all.

I ordered the fish and chips take out on a Friday evening. When I got home I was sorely disappointed to find three very small pieces of fish on top of a bed fries. The portion I got was simply unacceptable for a $ 14 entrée. Here is a photo of the meager meal — I do not know if this portion was a mistake or not, because it was only fit for an appetizer. Also the fish and chips themselves were very average. I can’t speak for the other items on the menu or the service, but needless to say I will not be returning anytime soon. All in all, I felt like I was ripped off.

I can only speak for what I ate and drank, but the beer list here is awesome and so was my food. I had maybe the best reuben I’ve had in years, and my partner ordered the bangers and mash, which was also outstanding. Service was prompt and helpful; it turned out the keg of the first beer I ordered was almost empty, but they gave me the last half-pint that was left free of charge, with apologies. No problem. If I could, I’d probably dock half a star for atmosphere; the place was pretty quiet at lunchtime on a Sunday and the only thing being played on TV appeared to be a seniors’ golf tournament. But I will have dreams about that sandwich. Prices were pretty good and location is great. I’d stop by for lunch again.

I’d like to write a review about their food and drinks, but sadly I’ve not experienced either. We had checked in at Deschutes across the street who told us there was a 30 minute wait. With a hungry toddler in tow, we thought that was probably going to be too long to wait. We walked across the street and were seated at an outdoor table right away. The hostess brought menus, a high chair and crayons for the little one. And that was the last time anyone paid any attention to us. There was another couple seated outside. They had their plates taken, their check brought to them, paid for their meal and left. And the waiter never once acknowledged us. The hubs got a text from Deschutes that our table was ready so we got up and left. Too bad. Would like to give this place a try, but far from impressed so far.

So the food was a lot better than I was expecting after seeing the interior and getting our first interactions with our waitress. We were a few minutes pre-5pm and she wouldn’t tell us what the specials were because they«weren’t set». I get it, but after ordering we see them write up «Prime Rib» as the special… and that’s been cooking for hours. If she had said something they would’ve sold two extra helpings of Prime Rib rather than a couple of sandwiches. :) Beer selection was pretty good. Nice to have some other non-Bend choices. Best looking full bar we’ve seen so far in town(disregarding the spiffy fancy bar places mind you). Maybe you come here to drink heavily, not eat. I wouldn’t scream and cry if someone wanted to go there again but I sure wouldn’t be overly excited. And while our waitress was average I must say that the male server working at the same time was on point. He even offered to help us on a few occasions when our gal was missing. His customers were happy and laughing. Maybe I’ll be happier to go back if I know he’s working!

We were having a rough day and the service and food cheered us up immensely. The bangers and mash were delicious and the mac & cheese with split pea soup was just the comfort food I needed. Nicole took great care of us and we had a few of our favorite, hard to find beers. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Bend.

This is a great place to eat and drink! The server was well informed about the beers(delicious) and the food. It was a little noisy, but the food made up for atmosphere. I had the flatbread special and a salad on a plate as large as a basketball! Both were served quickly and tasted fresh.

I have eaten here a few times and decided to post a review. We ordered a few light beers nothing special. For lunch I had the Brother Johns Burger which was very good but the one problem was my fries where just warm when the waitress brought them out so I had to return them. She was very nice about it and said she completely understood. The crapy part was by the time I was almost finished my burger the hot fries came out. My boyfriend had the Black Peppered Steak sandwich and he felt they diced up the meat to small but the bread was very good. I did see a lot of other people getting the salsa and chips so it must be a popular dish. Will have to try it next time we go back.

Great fresh margarita! My favorite are the fresh made mixes! None of that pre-made marg mix… GROSS! They make em’strong!
