Acme Markets

I’m simply not a fan of Acme. The only reason why I may periodically stop in here is if I need something on the fly, since it is the closest grocery store to my house. Even at those times, I’ll walk in and walk out empty handed. Their prices are high and I find myself not finding things that I would find elsewhere. Their meat quality isn’t too great and the selection is limited.
The employees are always friendly though, no doubt about that.

Produce section better than it has been historically, but still keeping lots of wrinkled stuff around, and putting the wrong description/​sale tags next to items on the shelf. Or, there’s no price at all, like for pre-​cut celery and carrot sticks. These giant portobella mushrooms had a sign that said «1.00». One what for how much?
Moldy sliced cheeses in the «fancy» cheese cooler. I mean visibly green, in multiple packs.
It can be a long wait at the deli counter, no matter how few people are in line. Service is friendly, though.
EXPENSIVE for all the basics and all things fresh. Baby food was «on sale» with the $ 10 for 10 scheme. That’s $ 1/​jar, just like Wegman’s every day price. San-​J Tamari sauce that costs $ 3.69 at ShopRite is $ 7.99 at this Acme!?!
Small aisles means lots of ceiling-​staring sheeple are unavoidable. Put on your «EXCUUUUSE ME» t-​shirt.
Less selection than many other grocery chains. (Small footprint at this location.)
ALWAYS CHECK EXPIRATION DATES, even on things like antibacterial creams. (Once found a whole section of bloated, expired Armenian string cheese, and the antibacterial cream was expired by over 6 months.) Meat is often within a day (or on THE day) of expiration/​sell by.
The pharmacy is usually OK, but expensive.
Checkout can be an unholy affair… never enough lanes open, sometimes only Express, people writing checks, using food stamps and not getting the right kind/​quantity specified, so everything gets backed up. You can be in line for a good 10 minutes without movement. Generally friendly service, though.
Only recommend shopping here 25 minutes before closing, the day before a holiday, when it’s raining. Otherwise, it’s pretty intolerable.
The parking lot means lots of dents in your vehicle, as no one around here cares.

THE SAME AS ANYWHERE ELSE!!! except, i dont think their selections and varieties are as good as other acmes…
