I’ve eaten here twice and was never thrilled. This particular one is overrated I feel because I’ve had better at another Nifty Fifty’s. Don’t order the seasoned Onion Rings they taste like they have curry powder on them — and I enjoy curry. Milkshake is good just a bit sugary. The atmosphere is just ok. I was seated over near an ear piercing AC unit or some sort of equipment emitting such a pitch it was very disturbing. Not returning anytime soon sorry to say.

My friends said the milk shake here is the best. I tried it and it was super sweet and I didn’t like it. I’m not sure what I actually like here. I find the place a bit overrated and crowded for no reasons.

I tried a few items my first time here with a friend. We had numerous fried foods, all well served and rather tasty. The onion rings are excellent. I highly recommend them. The atmosphere was very pleasant and welcoming. Restrooms were clean and being restocked while I was there, which was nice to see. Service was friendly as well. Apparently, you pay your server and do not go up front, as I was ready to pay that way. Whoops.

Free refills typically means you expect your waitress to come by more than once. That was disappointing. The black and white malt was fantastic though and they didn’t skimp on the malt! Also got some artery clogging cheese fries. Delicious if you can get past the heart attack. Booth was clean and the place was hopping on a Wednesday night an hour before close! If you didn’t know, they have about 50 sodas and flavors on the fountain. Mix and march to your heart’s content!

When I came into Nifty Fifty’s for the first time today my first impression was that the joint was almost empty at 2:30, and a far cry from the description of bedlam read in some reviews. Okay. That was a good thing, although I noticed the sign out front said something about being a «Family Fun Restaurant,» with mini golf and an arcade. I hoped that that the victuals would still be as good as Unilocaled. Clearly, NF’s is more about the shakes and hand made soda concoctions than the burgers. After all, you get a choice of more than 100 shake flavors, while the burgers menu is really rather small. Single, double or triple, with/without cheese, shrooms, onions, lettuce, mayo, etc. Not even a jalapeño option. The fries and onion rings sounded more exciting than the slider selections. All this evidence became manifest shortly after I ordered the black cherry shake first, and then the single burger with, and mushrooms and fried(not sauteed) onions, and the onion rings. The burger and rings came out in separate red plastic baskets, while the shake was overflowing its large aluminum container in which it was spun in the blender. I looked at the feast before me. Shake, rings, burger in that order of visual stimulation. I grabbed a few extra napkins as the shake began to run down the sides of the container, leaving a path through the condensation. The shake was just incredible. Intense black cherry flavored, thick, sweet, creamy. I started to fade back to about 1954(Yes. I was a kid then) and relived the wonder sensation of a DQ Blizzard. A pleasure zone in my cortex was triggered and I silently convulsed with joy. It was way to much for me, and I took half of it home. The onion rings were extra large, and breaded with a mix of spices and bread crumbs that made the crunchy bites delicious. The burger became an afterthought. It was decent with adequate grease, diaphanous onions and canned shrooms, to satisfy my basic burger lust, but not up to the standards of 5 Guys, Jake’s Wayback, nor In N Out. The single seemed smallish. The bun undistinguished, and the ketchup shot from an overused red plastic counter rocket. The bun collapsed under the oily weight of the topping and I had to retreat to a knife and fork. Sure. I will go again. The overall experience was fun and the meal had some major positives(the shake and rings), that overcame the rather lethargic effort at a good burger. I obviously picked the right time to go, as I sat alone at the counter and had the friendly waitress to myself. I enjoyed the meal in peace.

Food: 3.5 Décor: 2 Ambiance: 2.5 Service: 3 Value: 3.5 The burgers at Nifty Fifty’s are very good, thin griddle style burgers. In concept, the sodas are a good idea, but wasn’t able to found a flavor I liked. A better 50’s diner concept than most.

50’s style diner is well known for its diverse selection of milkshakes and sodas. Their milkshakes are also available in «yogurt» — helpful for those watching their waistlines! My favorite is the cookies and cream vanilla yogurt milkshake — when you order in, there is so much that you should split this with someone else, if drinking solo make sure you pack the rest to go. They make stuff from scratch: if you come in at the right time you will see them placing large potatoes through the potato cutter for fresh French fries, or someone dipping chicken breast chunks into batter and shifting it through bread crumbs for fresh chicken nuggets. Yummy!!! Also, their chili is pretty decent, available in a cup or bowl. As for other menu items, they are«ok», but I’d recommend the must haves are the milk shake, fresh French fries, nuggets and chili!

As a kid, I really loved going to Nifty 50’s for the arcade, incredibly sugary custom sodas, and overall fun atmosphere. As a teenager, I never went because I thought the place was just for kids. Now, as a young adult, Nifty-Fifty’s has become my go-to place for shakes, fries, burgers, and all sorts of unhealthy munchies. Despite the kiddy, loud atmosphere, Nifty Fifty’s food is some seriously good stuff. Burgers, though obligatorily well-done and small, are well-seasoned and have a nice crust. The fries are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and again, well-seasoned. Nifty’s enormous, well-battered, perfectly sweet-salty, crispy onion rings are my favorite rings period. Adding toppings(buffalo chicken, cheesesteak toppings, Old Bay, etc) to their fries or rings is a treat. They’re not too heavy handed, so the sides strike a good chord between the fry/onion ring flavor and the fresh toppings. Shakes are creamy, thick, and served in enormous portions with ample flavor combinations. They’re expensive(around $ 5 – 6) but if you split one with a friend you’ll still be bloated. Nifty Fifty’s gets a star knocked off for the aforementioned kiddy ambiance and somewhat high prices(not expensive, but not fast-food cheap either). Definitely stop by Nifty Fifty’s for solid burgers/fries/shakes/artery clogging stuff and you’ll be in fatty food nirvana.

Awesome place — the atmosphere and the amazing menu make going to Nifty Fifty’s an experience. The food is very heavy — I’ve needed some Tums to help me digest(but, then again, my eyes are bigger than my stomach). I hit the ground runnin’ — I ordered a triple Bacon cheeseburger(with Mushrooms and BBQ Sauce). You can order all kinds of toppings — and the burgers are delicious! Fresh — greasy — melty cheese. Major fun eating that! I also ordered fries(which are freshly made — today’s potatoes were from Maine … a handwritten sign informed me of that). :-) My fries were topped with Cheese Whiz — and bits of Philly Steak. Amazing. My friend ordered a Baby Ruth Malt — which I helped myself to, as well. She also ordered Chili Cheese Fries — so good. Our waitress was great — very attentive. The soda flavors are wild — our of this world. You will never have expected soda to come in these exotic flavors(Almond Cheesecake, for example). I will be back. For sure.

When my kids were little we used to go to Nifty Fifty’s and get good milkshakes and burgers. I believe I might have had a decent crabcake sandwich at the old South Philly location that was pretty good. I was feeling nostalgic so we went to this location. My lovely wife and I did not order milkshakes but chocolate sodas as well. Everyone talks about their milkshakes but they make old fashioned flavored sodas as well. Of course I get a burger and fries. The fries tasted like they hadn’t changed the oil in the fryer in a while and the burger was the greasiest mess ever. Michelle had some meh soup and a sandwich that we can’t even remember. Next time I start thinking about this place I’ll think not.

love Nifty Fifty’s, first off. while you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, it’s usually quick, and if you have few kids, you can duck into the arcade to kill some time. The food is made fresh, in house. From grinding the hamburger meat to hand battering ever single onion ring, Nifty Fifty’s does it all. And you better believe, no pink slime chicken here, hand breaded cutlet style nuggets and fingers. It’s a great place to take kids… so expect kids. The milk shakes are a bit costly, but I have never had a shake like these anywhere. The breakfast is awesome, complete with fresh squeezed organge juice. Normal dinner fare, but again fresh made nothing is ever frozen anything. One of the best things about lunch and dinner at Nif’s is the rotating specials, every day of the week, you can find something new at all three meals, just take a look at the specials board when you walk in, and if you ever see an Ally Mack on the board, you better order it! The servers are mostly teenagers at their first serving job, so give them a little leway. One of the best things about the open kitchen concept at Nifty Fifty’s is a manager is always visible. Finally, between my wife, my sister, my brother, and myself. we have about 20 years total of working mostly the grant ave location with a few months at the bensalem store as well. let me just say, THISISTHECLEANESTPLACE I HAVEEVERWORKEDFOR!!! and i have worked in about 8 resturants. none of us have worked there in about 6 years, but we still frequently visit. i would recommend this place for anyone.

Rarely ever come here but I just had a need for a milkshake. Kids loved it too. Clean place, helpful service, and fast. This one is better than the one on Grant Ave. in Philadelphia which smells like dirty dishes. 3 total milkshakes, just awesome. A little expensive — $ 17 total, but for a once-in-a-blue-moon experience, it was worth it.

I love love love Nifty Fifty’s! First of all, their latest promo milkshake is Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake and it is no less then amazing. I had a chili cheeseburger and bacon ranch fries. All of it was delicious. My husband had a vanilla root beer soda and a double royal burger. Our total bill was about $ 20. It doesn’t get much better then that. For the people who did not review this well, remember that it’s supposed to be a fun, fast-casual 50’s diner that serves burgers, fries and milkshakes. It is not a place with folded white napkins and flowers on the table. The servers are wearing paper hats and the food is served in baskets. It is what it is. I’m always happy with Nifty Fifty’s. I think the food is diner comfort food and is priced amazing. Their milkshake and soda selection is insane. I’ve always loved their food and I’ve never had a problem with the service. I will continue to return to Nifty Fifty’s!

I forgot how much I love this place. I only go like once ever 2 — 3 years, but it’s still a nostalgic place for me. When Nifty Fifty’s(on Grant) first opened I was pretty young(6 or 7 maybe) and we would go all of the time because my grandparents loved it so much, and I suppose because it was quite the novelty at the time. In recent years it’s just a little too unhealthy for me, but I was happy to see a Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Salad options on the menu! Sign of the times haha. If you’re going to this place though, just forget about your diet. Let’s face it — you’re going to have a milkshake anyway, you may as well get the burger you really want instead of the salad with extra dressing which will probably be the same amount of calories as the flipping burger! It’s a cheap place for family dining, unhealthy, but cheap. The milkshakes are incredible and the soda fountain options alone are reason enough to go to Nifty Fifty’s. See you in a few years, old friend!

I went here with my husband and two of our friends the other day. The service was great. There may be a line to sit in a booth, but I’m told counter seating is almost always available. Servers are busy but polite. At the counter, we were able to watch some of the food being prepared. The fries are chopped fresh from potatoes there and made on the spot. No wonder they’re so yummy! Chicken cheesesteak was good but chunky instead of cheesesteak texture. Milkshakes can’t be beat.

It was all right. Compared to Five Guys? Eh. We got the spicy onion rings which were actually a little too spicy for me. If I went back I would get the regular ones. I also found them a bit bland … I’m not quite sure how they achieved overly spicy yet bland but they did. The burgers were good but one of my gripes is when the cheese doesn’t cover the whole burger and this happened here. And it was that plastic-y, orange cheese. Not my favorite. However, I had a chocolate milkshake that was to die for so that makes up for a lot of wrongs … I would go back if a friend wanted to try the place but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

Burgers are great. You can have hundreds of different soda combinations. Shakes are big enough to fill three people. This location has an arcade and mini golf! How fun is that? The only downfall is they took away the house of the dead game… woe is me.

Dear God, When you let people procreate, please provide warning labels and leashes to some households. Sometimes I see tribes of children and immediately feel my lady parts shrivel. Walking in to Nifty Fifty’s, I immediately knew«this ain’t my bag, baby». It was an over populated older brother to Johnny Rockets. Sure, it’s a fun place, cheap eats etc… but unless you’re of the Chuck — E — Cheese age range, you want to shoot yourself in the foot the minute you walk in. Crumb snatchers everywhere. No real food on the menu under 100 grams of fat. Nothing but a goopy ceasar salad as an option for the veggie in the crowd. Ok, there ARE fries and milkshakes, but my milkshake brings the boys to the yard… the ones here? I think they might lead you somewhere scary… like Lactaid alley. We had walked in a bit late and there was a birthday/surprise party going on right next to us – and in front of the exit/bathroom door. Every time one of us needed to go, it was like going into battle. I had to brace myself and breathe deep. The scene: Children running into you, waitstaff wincing, parents drinking themselves into a dairy coma and ketchup stained faces smiling. It’s time like these I fear things under 2 feet tall and fake cheese. Perhaps if there weren’t 50 ppl crammed into one corner, I may have enjoyed a meal. but plan your visits wisely there my friend…
