They have their cashier manning algorithms down so you’ll be guaranteed to wait at least 10 minutes in line no matter how many or how few other customers there are. Only 2 customers in line? One cashier working slow as hell(sometimes it’s the customers’ fault, but they still make no attempt to call another cashier). 10 people in line? maybe 2 or 3 cashiers max. There’s always a long line or at least a long wait, even with a short line. The prices for many products at Target across the street are cheaper too. The only reason I go here is because everything else I go to downtown is on the same side.

The people working here seriously have to be actors or something cuz there’s no way that customer service(or lack of it) is real

I came in here looking for a couple of items I forgot to pack with me. Of course they had them which was nice. I had never been into a Walgreens with a food sections. They even had a icee machine. Way cool. I walked around and saw a nice pharmacy in the back but no public restrooms.

Went today to drop off my prescription around 7pm. The female Asian lady who work at the pharmacy department was very rude. She was complaining to the other employee on why on my prescription paper was wrinkled right in front me, she should have asked me on why it was wrinkled instead of complaining to another employee. Very rude service, I won’t be returning back because target is across the street.

Selections really good actually. Prices aren’t low, but that’s to be expected at a Walgreens. There’s always sales and whatnot on different items i’m always buying so that’s cool. It’s clean and easy to navigate. If I need snacks or meds, this place has it all(household items, toiletries, shampoo, toothpaste etc. I go to Target though). So for all this, I can’t give it a 1 star. But it’s only getting a two because almost every cashier/employee I’ve met is either completely bored and underwhelmed to be there(it’s a walgreens job, sure, but still) or is just outright argumentative and rude. At this point there’s three workers I actively have to try to avoid, and I know i’m probably not doing myself any favors posting this, but shit.(Sasan or something is a babe though) One older guy who rung me up tonight just dropped my receipt down in front of me, let his tired ass, limp, sad arm fall over the receipt machine and didnt say a word except for a depressing mumbly«thaanks» at the end. lame af. It’ll do in a jif, but if I could switch out 95% of the staff for people who seem somewhat grateful to have a job, then we’d be in business.

Instead of going to the Walgreen’s closest to me for my prescriptions, I usually go out of my way to go to this location. The pharmacy staff here are much nicer, and much more helpful.

I’ve read plenty of complaints about Walgreens prices. Yeah, they’re higher than Grocery Outlet or some other grocery store. But then that is in my experience, true of most pharmacy/convenience stores like Rite-Aid, CVC or 7-Eleven. I don’t go there looking for bargains or deals, even though I have found some good stuff on sale. I go because I dont feel like traveling across town just for snacks or toothpaste. And I am also very impressed with the staff. Unlike some other locations, I find the people here always very friendly and ready to assist the way Mr. Oye did today when I was having big troubles with the kiosk as I attempted to retrieve a Western Union Transfer. He was on the phone for almost half an hour trying to unravel the tangle as the staff also required his assistance. I was really impressed and don’t care if body wash is a few pennies more. I have seen much worse. Kudos to my folks at Shattuck Walgreens!

What can I say, it’s a Walgreens. No matter where you are, it’s going to have overpriced common goods in a store that smells like Lysol. This particular Walgreens, located conveniently by the BART station, has an impressively large chocolate selection and a nice pharmacy with huge touch screens to decrease your wait time and schedule prescription pickups. The pharmacist are also pretty friendly. Lines get long and this place can get crowded, but head to the cosmetics section or customer service line to check out if you don’t have too many items. There’s a parking garage right around the corner as well as a CVS two blocks away in case you didn’t find exactly what you needed.

This place just doesn’t feel very welcoming, ATALL. In fact, now that I think about it, this place could very well be in a horror film. It’s across from Berkeley Bowl, yet the environment seems totally different. There were some questionable people hanging around outside — why’s the old lady staring at me like she’s about to rob me? why is that guy talking and laughing extremely loudly to the woman right next to him? Upon entering, the lights didn’t see like they were all turned on. It was kinda dark, which doesn’t help advertise the available items in the store. Makes it feel like the place hasn’t been renovated in a long while. I wouldn’t say run-down, but it had that feel to it. Anyway, one of the reasons I came in was for eggs, but lo and behold, they were practically ALLCRACKED. Thanks. Super nice. The price that rang up for one of my items was also totally wrong. Luckily, the cashier was paying attention and realized how ridiculous the displayed price was. It was about $ 50 more than the actual price — a bit high, no?

You can move a pig into a new house but its still a pig. Walgreens is HORRIBLE. The prices are wrong. The pharmacy has been a mess for years but was far worse when they were on the other side of shattuck. The only time they come in useful is when i need to buy a birthday card or something or that one time i got desperate and needed some i cant believe its not butter and they didn’t even have the reduced fat version. I really like CVS much better they give out 20% off coupons practically every weekend.

Lines are long and it’s always slow. Like 10 deep but only two cashiers… I don’t understand the management style. If u like waiting then go ahead and come here. No self check out. so people with multiple overpriced teams waste my time. People are in MY way! Go somewhere!

This Walgreens is conveniently located next to BCC and BART. A lot of weirdos hang out by this location so know your surroundings. That’s not why I’m giving it 1 star. People working here who are under 39 are nice, but I’m not sure what happens when they turn 40 because every person I’ve encountered is RUDE. I’ve purchased things here many times. The one time I tried to return one item that wasn’t opened and I had a receipt — man did Walgreen’s true colors show. The idiot cashier asked a million questions about why I was returning it despite the fact that I just didn’t want it, the item was unopened, it was a legitimate return and I was following every guideline in their policy. The idiot entered the wrong amount that was less than I paid. I pointed this out and she was arguing with me over it, then got the manager. They tried telling me it was a difference in taxes when the truth is, the tax rate was the same because I purchased it at the exact same store. What kind of scam are they trying to pull? They called the next person in line and refused to acknowledge their mistake. So rude. Take my advice and even though the store is in a neighborhood claiming they are a «neighborhood Walgreens», they do not treat you like a neighbor!

Cal goods, Hello Kitty, Scientific American Mind magazine, postcards and green tea makes this place a great pit stop for me. But expect crowded, messy aisles, and rude, listless staff. It’s location is super convenient and you’ll be pleased with the selection, just try to overlook the chaos and dust. You can develop film and get your prescription medicine here, too.

Yikes. Overpriced, dirty, and a bit creepy. A few workers are nice though. I came here three times, and I will never return ever again. I rather drive a bit up north for the other stores than to go here again. And also, how can ketchup be out of stock for over a week?

After a bad photo experience at CVS, I decided to print some of our wedding photos at Walgreens. I uploaded them for in-store pick-up and received an email that my photos were ready. When I arrived at Walgreens, they spent a few minutes trying to find my photos, then they produced the printed products; however, the said that there was a copyright issue. This was not communicated to me in the email saying that my photos were ready. I pulled up the signed contract from our wedding photographer that stated that we have the rights to print the photos wherever we choose, but they insisted that they needed a copy. I offered to email the document to them, but they said they needed a printed copy. They stated that they did not have a printer. This is confusing at they had just printed my photos. At this point they refused to sell me the photos despite the fact that I had just shown them proof that we can legally print them. They preferred to shred my photos rather than charge me $ 20 for them. While my husband, who is a lawyer, tried to explain to the cashier that we have the right to buy the photos from them, the cashier just walked away. I will not be setting foot in this store again unless it is an emergency.

Possibly the most popular Walgreens on the face of the earth. This place is always packed, with lines like Disney Land… probably because of its super convenient location, directly on top of the downtown Berkeley BART station. The selection is broad but shallow. That is, they have a little of everything – drugstore basics, groceries, Cal memorabilia, home goods, office supplies, and so on – but only one or two offerings in each category. Need something in a pinch: this is a great stop. Need something specific: maybe not so much. In my experience, the staff are mostly great – competent, fast, and polite. One checker hit on me in a way I thought was a little inappropriate, but I haven’t seen him there in quite sometime.

Wow. This Walgreen has it all. Groceries, Cal souvenirs, ethnic food section, clothing… you name it, they most likely have it. It truly is a one-stop shop. They do need to make sure they have at least two or three cashiers on hand all day long. I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes because there was one cashier. He was working hard, too! They have some lame«security» guy at the front… they need to train him to get on the register!

The best thing that Walgreens has going for it is the location: steps outside the Downtown Berkeley BART station, it’s a convenient place to buy floss or toothpaste on the way home. Everything else about this location is kind of meh… The lines are always long and take an eternity to get through. There are too many displays and random things crowded around the aisle ends and entry, making it seem cluttered. And something about it always seems a little unclean to me, but I can’t put my finger on exactly why that is. I’ll continue going, but it’s more out of necessity than choice.

It’s a Walgreens! But you won’t find chalk here. At least not on August 4, 2012, when I went here and needed it. Aisles are fairly narrow, so watch your elbows when it’s busy in here. Seemed to be a moderate line to get to the registers.
