I haven’t stayed in a room in the hotel itself since it was called«Black Bear Inn» and they had a swimming pool. However, several of my relatives stayed there and liked it, and we reserved the big event room for a family get together one evening. What a nice room! There’s a fireplace, enlarged photos of Amish all over the walls, a kitchenette, and a bunch of round tables, where we ate. Perfect for the family get-together. While I’m sad that the place where I had my 10 year old birthday pool party is gone, I think they did well with the remodel.

Hmmm, mixed reviews on this one. First the negatives: — stayed two days but only received fresh towels, no trash removed or any straightening up — shower pressure low and lukewarm water in shower — walls were very thin… hearing the neighbor cough and talk was proof enough — very light on wall plugs and only available in bathroom and by the tv… nothing at the bedstand. — free wifi but no instruction given regarding password — no iron in room — no pop machines in hotel??? no bottled water??? Ok now positives: + comfy bed + good working room controlled a/c + include continental brkfst which was like homemade — biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches. + VERY clean. Not good for business travel.

We come to Berne a couple times a year to visit family. In the past, we have always stayed at the Schug House, a Bed and Breakfast that is the only option other than the Clock Tower in town. We visited over the Thanksgiving holidays, and Schug house was rented out completely by a family who does it every year. We booked several rooms at the Clock Tower for other family members who were joining us. The inn recently switched owners and went through major upgrades and it shows. I had heard so-so things about it before(when called the Black Bear Inn). We really enjoyed our stay there! One thing that I love about it is that it is pet friendly. There is only one pet friendly room, so be sure to reserve it specifically if you’re bringing a pet. Not only is the pet friendly room carpet less, but the room is by the back door, with a very large expanse if grass out back. My dog was off leash without any problem while we visited, and loved running around back there. Our room had 2 beds — not much choice because of the pet friendly room. It was very clean and comfortable. The room was a good size, with a table and chairs, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, nice sized flat screen TV, DVD player(with DVDs available at the front desk), black out drapes and coffeemaker. The bathroom was small but clean. The beds were so comfortable! The bedding was nice and the comforters were not gross like in some motels. You could tell thought was put into it. The only thing we would have changed was that there was not a dresser or closet — just a small area to hang clothes with a small shelf above it. One of the 4 rooms we had did have one. Breakfast was not a huge spread but enough for us — yogurt, bagels, toast, biscuits, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, pastries, coffee and juice. It was good and free — I love free. There is an event room that you can rent, but it’s open to guests when not being used. It has tables and chairs, comfy couches, a fireplace and a huge(60inch?) HDTV. One night we got a DVD from their library and watched a movie there. It was really nice! The people working there are great. Very friendly and helpful! From the housekeeping to front desk, everyone was nice. We will definitely stay here again, especially with our little pup, who loves visiting Berne and barking at the Amish buggies and horses that pass!
